Company and their subcontractor promised more than they could deliver. New patio is safer than previous. To a casual look the patio looks good (not great but good). A close look reveals incomplete stamping (no stamping on the first 5 inches from the house walls so it sure does not look like a stone patio) and missing antiqueing. Cleanup of concrete up to 3 feet high on house walls and antiqueing powder on patio door frame only occurred after several calls and emails to company. It should be noted that Summit told me to clean the vinyl patio door with xylene which probably melted the vinyl. Finally the sent another company out to clean the door. They spent 5 hours an their knees using Paint thinner to remove the antiqueing residue. Subcontractors equipment made ruts up to 18 inches deep in the fescue grass front yard the will take years to disappear. They did bring in a Bobcat to smooth out the ruts but it left tread marks.
Description of Work: Replace small patio and low deck with larger stamped concrete patio.

"Summit Concrete was the General Contractor for a project for my neighbor across the street. While working on this project, Summit Concrete or one of its hired subs backed into my iron post mailbox and broke it off its pedestal. I was out of town, but a neighbor told me about it. The General Manager for Summit left his business card on my door, with a hand written note on the back stating" Please call me! We damaged your mailbox. Cell (number furnished but omitted here)". I called the General Manager who was very apologetic, and promised they would fully cover the damages, and replace the mailbox by the following Monday or Tuesday (this was on Thursday prior). I said I understood, accidents happen, and just requested it to be replaced no later than Wednesday of the following week when we would be back home from our trip. I also reminded him the mailbox had to be replaced with exactly the same model as this is the only one allowed by our neighborhood covenant restrictions. When we returned Wednesday night of the following week, we found our broken mailbox, nothing had been done. The next morning, Thursday, (a full week after the damage), I called the General Manager and asked him what the schedule was to replace the mailbox as he had promised me it would be done by now. He said he had been very busy on jobs, had not had any time to deal with it, other than a quick stop at a Home Depot but did not find the right style mailbox there. He asked me to help him and find out where one could be purchased. I agreed. I made a few calls, located one nearby, drove to the place to be sure it was the right one (it was) and was in stock (it was). I called the Summit General Manager from the store to give him the information. This time the cell phone was answered by the owner of Summit, Alan Holcombe. I relayed the history of the problem (he was aware of it), and told him we located the mailbox and wanted to give them the information so they could have someone go by and purchase it and install it that day or the next. He said he was at his daughters ball game, could not take the information and asked me to email it to him. He also was rather rude and stated my request for prompt action was unreasonable, even though it had now been over a week since my mailbox was destroyed and they had done nothing to replace it. The next day, I get an email from Alan Holcombe, with a phone number of another company and stated I should call them to get my mailbox replaced. No contact name was given, and when I called the phone number it was an automated directory response "press 1 for sales, press 2 for dispatch, etc."..I didn't have a name so hung up. I sent a reply email twice to Mr. Holcombe asking him for a contact name but he never responded. I finally called the Summit cell number again and this time the General Manager answered. His story now is that they, Summit didn't do the damage, so I needed to deal with the other company. I asked him if Summit was indeed the General Contractor on the job, and this second company was one of their subs, and he confirmed that. I then asked him why, as the General Contractor, shouldn't Summit Concrete be responsible for the damages caused by their subcontractor, fix the damage and then withhold the damages from payment to the subcontractor? He said he could do that if I wanted to wait a "LONG time". I inferred from this that Summit had no intention of taking responsibility and fixing the damages contrary to their initial admission in writing to me. I am now waiting to hear back from the second company (the contact I was given was out of the office), and it is going on two weeks since my mailbox was broken and laying in the front yard. I am making this report, because it seems to me Summit and its owner, Alan Holcombe have shown themselves totally unwilling to take responsibility for the damages they caused and are refusing to do the right thing. A new mailbox and base cost only $300 and would take only a couple of hours to pick up and install. But they refuse take action on it, what would they do with a major problem?? How embarrassed would you be if your General Contractor damaged your neighbor's property and then refused to fix it?????
Description of Work: Damaged my property while working on a project for my neighbor. Initially admitted liability and promised to fix, later denied and refused to make repairs.

Response from Summit Concrete and Construction Company
Hello, I do apologize for the situation you were in, but I do have to say there is always more than one side to a story. We do get ahold of the company who did deliver the cement for us and they did agree to pay for the mailbox. We would not leave a business card with the mind set of not following through. No, it was not in the time frame we nor you hoped for, but we did take care of the situation at hand. We have an A+ rating with the BBB not by ignoring our customers, but by our actions and completed projects. Again, we do apologize and we are actually still waiting on full payment of the job. Thank you.
