Description of Work: I contracted (I am a proj. manager) for my mom to have her kitchen redone, this was countertops, backsplash, cabinet doors, crown moldings, and removal of three cabinets over a bar area. This did not include painting or removing the cabinet bases, painting walls, sheetrock, lighting, flooring, any appliances. We had a number of issues, and would have been worse had I not been a PM. Salesperson made lots of promises and said the kitchen would be out of commission for less than a week. It took about three months to get it done, not the best experience. The big problem was the carpenter who was not available much, could only work half days, and attempted to not do some items like we were promised, then got upset when I pushed back on those. The owner in Kansas however went ABOVE AND BEYOND to get the problems resolved, and the person he sent was AWESOME, but this was about two months into the situation. A countertop bar we paid to have enlarged, wasn't done, had to be re-done, it wasn't the fault of the guys on site because the contract specs were written by sales in very small print, and it made it hard for the guys to see what we had been promised in my opinion. I don't fault the salesman, but feel this company needs to hire a PM to be involved in the sales and install process so these things don't happen. Underneath the bar it wasn't finished right, because they were in a hurry since they were overscheduled, which was the result of scheduling for a 3-day deal when it was really about a two week effort. It was problematic. It took three re-orders to get the hardware in for cabinet knobs and pulls, and that was with me traveling twice to their store to point out exactly how many and which type, writing it down, etc. Overall her kitchen is beautiful now, and the Kansas manager was phenomenal. I would say the biggest problem was the salesperson isn't the one doing the work, tends to oversell and understate time involved. The company contracted a carpenter that had other jobs, and was not able to work 8 hours a day. When the owner got involved, he was fantastic and did a fabulous job getting a superb carpenter on site to finish the work, but the local one was not available initially to work a full day. He did one day work overtime, but still did not finish it all. | |I would consider using this company again, but would write several things in the contract: discounts or price reductions going over by a month, etc., specs drawn out for changes, etc., the carpenter is 8 hours a day for instance. The product is great in terms of not requiring the original countertop be demo'd off, etc., and less dust, so on. I feel the products deserve A ratings, the cabinet doors are awesome. It was just the implementation in our case that was an issue. Don't expect it to be a three or four day event, give yourself a full 30 days for a working kitchen in my opinion. | |I would give them a C plus or B minus overall except for the errors and delays, and an A to the management finally getting involved from Kansas. But really the local work could have been better initially. THanks, |J. Johnson
