I highly recommend Wendland Masonry! Excellent, friendly service. They really care about their job performance and they went the extra mile to make sure I would be happy with my brick porch once they were finished repairing it. My porch is nearly 100 years old, and they brought it back to life. They took extra care to preserve the historical aspects of the porch. I’ve received many compliments on how well the porch looks now after the repair.

Everything went better than expected. Coe was responsive, timely and efficient. He was very professional and did an excellent job.
Description of Work: We are selling our home and the inspection report conducted on behalf of the buyer recommended tuck pointing on a small settling crack on the back of our house. Coe came out and looked at the area to determine what was needed. He returned a few days later and repaired the area. He did an excellent job and it looks like the original brickwork. I would highly recommend to anyone needing tuck point on their brick homes.

It was wonderful. They did a really good job and they're great to work with. The total project cost for fence and patio $9000. They were really great to work with and they were always in communication with me if they were going to be absent or late or something like that.

Contacted Mr. Wendland by phone to make an appointment and he was able to come by the same day. He provided a quote for a fireplace repair. Very reasonable and professional. We decided to wait on the repair but will definitely use this company when we go ahead with the fix.

They stated that they were currently booked up, but would call me back when their schedule opened up. They never called back. Update 02/14/14: I read Wendland's response and accept their apology. I have not yet secured another contractor, and would welcome a call from Wendland to schedule a visit to quote on my job.

Response from Wendland Masonry & Construction
Our schedule never opened up, My apologies, We are still working on the same 2 projects we started back in September and wont be finished til late February, We always stay on projects til they are finished, We never start one then leave during the middle of any project unless the project requires one person and a days work. I'm sure the member above would appreciate that quality of a business, Like I said to him we were busy and that I would call him til our schedule opened, unfortunately we are still working on the same two scheduled projects. I believe we did not deserve this review for we told the member we where busy and that we would try but I never made any promises to this person. I hope the member found someone who could accommodate his schedule.

I noticed my response was taken down from a few years ago. So I will rewrite my response. We only spoke over the phone. We never estimated this person project. I asked her and Angies List to provide the estimate if it were true. We never borrow anybody's tools. We have been in business for 45 years and we have plenty of tools. We have more tools than we know what to do with. If we ever needed a tool or equipment we would just buy it or rent it. It's that easy. I am very upset with Angies List for taking down my response from a few years ago. I wonder how many people read this and did not see our side of the review.

i contacted this provider several times over many months, through Angie's list, by email and directly by phone and was never able to get them to come and give me an estimate on my repair work. When I contacted them by phone they told me that they could move on giving me an estimate faster if I emailed them some photos. I took photos and emailed them on the same day but never heard back from them. It would have been a lot more helpful if they had just told me that they did't have time to do a job like mine. I finally found someone in the phone book who came to look the same day and did the repair work two days later. Update: This provider contacted me by email after reading my review. He assured me that somehow he did not receive my email that had photos of my house. He also raised a valid point that I agree with, that I should have called to verify that he had received my email before assuming that he was being unresponsive.
Description of Work: Was trying to get estimate for brick repairs on my house. This provider had many good reviews on Angie's List so I felt like they would be a good company to go with.

Response from Wendland Masonry & Construction
To whom it may concern, No work had been done nor was there an estimate presented 1st attempt : The owner above had called quite along time ago perhaps a year ago. We wanted to meet right away but the owner was hesitant to meet because he had mentioned his schedule was unpredictable at the moment, I had said that is fine we can try again back after some time. 2nd Attempt : After some time I emailed the potential client as a curtsey email asking if he had found someone and if not we would be interested if the owner was still interested. The owner replied that he had not found any one yet but he was going to go on vacation with his family, I was fine with this as well. 3rd attempt : He had called us when he was ready again after a month or 2, this time I was working out of town and in town and was very busy with several scheduled projects and believe me this business can take its toll on you. I had asked him to send me some pictures and maybe I could assess the project by picture and if i couldn't I would have to come by to assess the issue. I said this would be faster if I could assess through email I never heard back from him about the pictures until I received this review which had me in shock. You would think I would get a curtsey call much like I did for him after I have not heard from him after a while. The client said he did send the pictures, I'm sure he did send them. The pictures might have been put in my spam folder and this folder deletes files after 30 days so there is no way of knowing. Out of 3 times trying to assess the project we did not get anywhere so we had to write it off unless the client would communicate back with us. We understand people get uninterested or end up changing theirs minds so we wont call more than a few times. After all it does get busy and must use our resources on other projects that are more promising. I'm glad the owner found someone to address the issue but I am not happy about the review. I believe under the circumstances that we did not deserve this review. I highly suggest to anyone to always give a curtsey call or email because you never know what really happened. We once left a book on the truck and lost a few contacts after we driven off. Luckily one of the persons called back after some time and understood completely and had a laugh about it. These things happen so its always best to give that curtsey call. Thanks and I hope this will help the business and client relationship

THE JOB WENT GREAT! We have had countless companies come out and build and repair things at our house in the last 12 years since moving here but never one such as polite and professional as Wendland Masonry & Construction. First off, they were polite during every conversation and was in tune with me at every turn. Second, after the job, they left our back yard and back porch area CLEANER than when they started. Third, Their care and attention to details, from accuracy of lining up the rocks to a near perfect straight line at every corner to attention to clean up after the job was done absolutely blew us away. I honestly cannot say enough good things about these guys. Good hearted, easy to communicate with and, above all, they do astounding work! We did not find them here on Angie's list but we do think it was God's hand making sure we got in contact with them before hiring another company to do the job. They are Christian and take great pride in their work...AND IT SHOWS! I'd like to say thank you to the crew and the owner for doing such a fantastic job and for treating our house as though it was theirs. Thank you gentlemen. sincerely

I immediately reminded the gentleman I spoke with over the phone about what we initially proposed, so we will see if calls back with a more reasonable quote for what I actually wanted done. Overall, I am highly dissatisfied with my experience with this company.
Description of Work: This company is a father and son team. I spoke to the son about a specific design I had in mind over the phone. A week later both father and son came by to assess my property. The quote they gave me was for a different design than the one I had discussed and the quote was exorbitant, nearly double what their competitors quoted me for the exact same system (which I didn't want in the first place).

Response from Wendland Masonry & Construction
To whom it may concern, No work had been done only proposals. (member name removed) had called on Saturday and we spoke with him for several minutes. He had mentioned that other contractors seemed to not know what was correct and (member name removed) had thought there was no standard and we agreed, also we had mentioned versa-lok during the call and (member name removed) said he gotten other bids from $10,000 to $50,000. We had mentioned a masonry block wall with stucco that maybe just maybe would be less in cost and that we would have to look at the landscape. (member name removed) liked the idea of block and stucco and stressed to him that if he had tress and shrubs it would be difficult and could kill the trees if we chopped the roots and this is another reason for versa-lok wall system. (member name removed) did not have any designs at hand nor did (member name removed) have any architect drawing so getting multiple bids was a shot in the dark for bidding comparisons. (member name removed) was told this. Two days later after the phone call we met on Monday with the Wife and (member name removed) was not around. We walked with the Wife for 2 hours going over ideas and measuring all the walls which had Rail roads ties that would need to be removed and hauled away. Over 750 lineal feet and an average 2- 2.5 feet tall of ties where measured giving it an average of 1,600 square feet of new retaining wall above ground. The wife also added repairs to the wood steps and landing along with wanting to remove a section of fence to install a retaining wall under the fence also under a small bridge, around a gazebo, around her pool and an area that would be difficult to form a stem wall system which they had a bid for also for $10,000 and in our opinion that is unlikely to be completed at that cost. When we left Monday the wife had us thinking that versa-lok would be fine due to the fact that pouring concrete for block and stucco would kill their tress and shrubs possibly. We worked on the bid and met with the wife on Wednesday and again (member name removed) was not around. We wanted to go over the details once more and hand her the proposal. The bid was $53,000 for her retaining wall which included removing railroad ties, replacing her steps and landing and installing the retaining wall along with some patch work. She said that it would be to much cost to build the retaining wall and her budget was $20,000 which this was not mentioned before so time had been wasted but not entirely. We walked with the wife and went over other ideas such as installing boulders and we priced it at estimated $24,000 but told her that the yard would need to be fixed up and resodded and would be extra cost plus extra soil cost if needed Also we mentioned we could take everything out and just install soil and sod and make a slope around her pool and everywhere else RR ties where. We find it that we were very helpful and very professional and was there to help in any way but unfortunately (member name removed) did not find it that way and how could he when he was not there. At the end of this proposal we went ahead and offered a concrete footing with block wall and stucco for $8,000 less but this could hurt his root system and they had large grown trees and lots of shrubs and plants along all these walls. The block wall and stucco system was our idea in the first place and we did not know yet if it would work. Every job and landcape is different and must be looked at carefully before installing building materials. I would like for this review to be discarded for I believe (member name removed) had a huge misunderstanding of what was going on for we only spoke and met with his wife whom was very nice. We have been in business for 42 years and this is the 1st complaint and it happens to be over a price. (member name removed) also mentioned he had bids for half what are bid was but I have here a material list for $19,000 just for versa-lok block and I would like to see someone install it for $6,000 in labor plus removing the RR ties. This is why everybody should have a set of plans or a very detailed idea otherwise you will not get a true answer on comparison. One may install half what the other contractor will install or using cheaper material and incorrect building practices thus leading to a bid that is half in price. We deeply regret what has happened and hope that this never happens again.

Description of Work: Constructed a retaining wall 4' high by 140' long using VersaBlock. They did a fantastic job. It has a french drain behind the wall to facilitate water run off. I looked them up on Angie's List. In the future, they are going to be doing my brick patio. I have never really worked with a company that is so courteous. The main problem with contractors is that they do not believe in phone calls, but they kept me in the loop at every step and they contacted with me by phone, almost if not everyday then every other day or something like that, especially when we were trying to schedule. They had great communication. I liked their integrity. They did what they said they were going to do. They were some of the nicest people to work with. Their workmanship was superb. I cannot wait to get them back. They were not the cheapest, but when you are dealing with workmanship you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Wendland Masonry & Construction did a brick fence in the back for me. There are nine panels about 90 feet long and I had 30 feet of it taken completely down to the ground and redone, and it was an open brickwork, and they did an absolutely superb job.

Where do I start? These guys are so good! He couldn't match my brick, so he suggested I change to rock above my garage door. He chose a rock that complimented my brick very nicely. Upon tearing out my brickwork, he found the original angle iron was not attached to the wall which allowed the entire structure to sag. He replaced it with proper iron, and made sure it was properly bolted to the garage header. He worked the rock into the sides of the garage wall so it would all tie into the house. The artist in him made sure the sides were balanced but not mirror image. He made sure I knew what he was doing every step, and the only adders I had were ones I chose to add after the contract was written. His crew were very respectful and nice. They were clean to the point of tarping everyplace they were working. Once they were done cleaning up, I honestly couldn't tell they had been there except for the beautiful rock work. I have 2 more projects I need them to do, and I will definitely call them when I am ready. Thank You!

I was awakened in the middle of the night by POLICE pounding on my door to inform me a drunk driver had just flipped his car when he hit my brick mailbox and totally destroyed it. Since I was heading to California for an extended trip in a few days, I needed to hurry up. So, I joined Angie's List the next morning, read a bunch of reviews and chose Wendland for their good reviews. (and I've had some bad experiences with some Tulsa home service providors) Wish I had joined Angie's List years ago! Anyway, Bill Wendland listened to my story and came out same day I called. He and his sons came out the next day, hauled away all the broken bricks, and installed a temporary mailbox. I left on my trip and when I came back there was the most beautiful new mailbox at the front of my house! Thanks a bunch, Bill! I really appreciate how you did exactly what you said you would do!

This is not a large company - a father and sons and extra workers when needed. Consequently it's difficult getting an exact start date. Our start date slipped a bit, due in part to Wendland's other projects and in part to my travel. However once the work started they did not leave until the job was done (about 9.5 days). Very professional and courteous crew, and they did a beautiful job with the retaining wall. This is the second time I've used this company and they will be my first contact for future work. And take a look at the projects on their web site - they do more than what you think of when you think of a masonry company.

We got several estimates for replacement , but the cost for replacing the wall was more than we expected. We decided to repair the wall. We had a pretty tight budget and Wendland Masonry worked with us so that the job was completed for exactly what was estimated. They did a great job with the repair and were always willing to discuss any concerns that we had. They weren't able to get the job started as quickly as they originally thought but kept us posted periodically. I would recommend Wendland Masonry to friends and family

The project was completed without any major delays or unexpected problems.
Description of Work: We used Wendland on a smaller project before, and had a good experience. This time, we had them tear out a thick concrete patio and replace it with flagstone. They weren't able to come on the original date, however, they did get here a few days later and worked very hard to be fininshed by the time we needed them to be. It was not an easy tearout, but they did a good job, and we could not be more pleased with the finished product. We encountered a problem with some water damage to a joist under a large sliding door, and they were quick to recommend a man who was able to come out and fix the problem quickly so that the project was completed on time. We were somewhat precise in how we wanted the patio done, and they always complied with our ideas or suggested a better way to do it. Overall, this is a good company and family to do business with and I would recommend them without reservation.

Description of Work: We have a brick fence across the front of the house that had spawling brick, peeling paint, mold and eroding mortar. Coe Wendland & crew repaired all of the bricks & mortar, power washed away the mold & mildew on both sides of the fence. Then put on a primer paint coat and several other coats of paint. Did all the clean up. The fence looks great & with all the bricks repaired properly, this fence will look great for years to come. This is the 2nd time we've used Wendland Masonry and we will usOverOe them in the future for all masonry related work. They are honest & hard-working and always do a great job! The estimate was made and agreed upon. The start date slipped several times. At one point, they brought cement and other supplies to our home, but then they sat there for two months before any work was begun. They first delayed a couple of times, then we had to be out of town (as we had told them before this started) and we lost our place in line. It was then a about another two months before they were able to begin work. Once they began, we could not have been more pleased. They were very clear in their explanations of what they were doing, had some good suggestions on the walkway that was replaced and did excellent work. Both Bill (the father) and Coe (the son) were involved in the job, with Coe here all of the time work was proceeding. They seemed to know their job very well and are very experienced. We were also very pleased as the jobsite was clean every day. Once they got started, they worked until the job was complete. I get frustrated with contractors that have several jobs working at the same time, but I also understand they need to do the work while they can. They managed this process very well once things got started. They stayed right on the original estimate. They replaced the wooded beams in the wall and matched the pain exactly to the surrounding areas. They also matched the color of the mortar to parts of the wall they did not have to repair. The mortar was from the original work and and very old, but you really have to look to distinguish the difference. The work was not inexpensive, but we think it was worth the price when we finished.
Description of Work: Wendland repaired an 80 year old brick wall on the front of our home and replaced large oak wood beams. They also tuck pointed a rock wall on the house, replaced a stone walkway, repaired our driveway and build a retaining wall. Because the brick wall was very old and only a portion needed to be replaced, I believe this job took some skill. They also replaced wood beams in a Tudor style home. Replacing the beams required removal of just enough of the bricks.

I can now say I have had a back yard makeover of my dreams. Truly a company that takes pride in their work and skills. If you ever need anything I Highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Wendland Construction did a lot of projects for us to transform our backyard. The Wendland men demoed an existing building and extended the concrete and built a beautiful Cabana out of large cedar beams and beautiful log siding with a shingled roof that matched the one on our home. The cabana was trimmed with cedar and had cabin like doors installed and stained all the wood. The electrical work was all hidden. They had built a gorgeous outdoor kitchen with in the cabana out of real stone that matched our home with amazing granite counter tops. They installed our lynx grill and accessories such as the drawers, doors, side burner and trash can etc. They had bought the Lynx kitchen appliances through their insider pricing and saved us well over $2,000 or more. They also built a bathroom with tile matching the travertine pavers and also built a closet for our pool supplies and for storage in the cabana on two of the corners with a large cedar porch and deck in the back of the cabana over looking the gorgeous fire pit and patio made of stone block and stone pavers they had also built. The porch has cedar railing wrapping around it which I love. The Wendland men set large boulders around the yard and used boulders for a retaining wall to keep the yard from washing away and also built a cedar round rail fence with black chain link to separate the horses from our yard. We use the fire pit and kitchen quite often now. Wendland construction also built the most amazing koi pond and still to this day people are saying this. The koi pond is 26,000 gallons with many large boulders and a 7 foot tall waterfall hitting several stones and rocks making many tiers and also this pond has a spring like feature which seems like a real spring is entering the pond. They installed a separate 3rd waterfall as well that has a glass like sheet of water falling into the pond. Each waterfall has a unique way of falling into the pond. They also installed a large log from boulder to boulder laying across the spring giving it a very nice natural look. The stone they tore out of the old pool decking was reused for the koi pond and it turned out great! Wendland Construction also installed our new travertine pool decking. There was about 2,500 square foot of travertine laid for our decking and patio and walkways. They did a beautiful job with the French pattern. The travertine pavers and pool coping made my pool look gorgeous and beautiful to walk on during the hot summer. The Wendland men also removed a section of a fence to tie in the koi pond with the fire pit and patio. They removed a lot of tress and branches that had over grown and rebult the sidewalk in the front yard and installed ornamental deer and many many other things for me. They did a great job!

I could tell from the first phone call this was going to be a good experience. Everything was geard towards pleasing me. The price estimate was very reasonable. They were very responsive to my requests. They showed up on time, and built a very attractive brick mailbox within budget. While on this job I had them estimate another job (a retaining wall) which I'll follow through on in a month or so. It's a dad and four sons company, and they take pride in what they do.
Description of Work: This was a brick mail box rebuild.
