After a lot of searching, I decided that Ground Zero seemed to have the best prices and service for the type of shelter I wanted. They were very easy to work with, set up an installation date that was convenient for me, and showed up on time. I thought the price was very reasonable. The installing crew was professional and answered all my questions. The installation itself went very smoothly. It took only a couple of hours, and they cleaned up the entire area when they were finished. They also demonstrated everything I needed to know on use of the shelter. I am very plased with this shelter, although I have not had to use it for a tornado yet. No water has leaked into it, it is easy to open and close, and I would recommend Ground Zero to anyone who would like more peace of mind during tornado season.

I used Angie's List to find them. Their price was phenomenal because I thought that it was going to be considerably more. The price even included the tax which surprised me. The safe room is guaranteed to last an F25 tornado since I am in Oklahoma and we are a tornado alley so it is imperative that people have protection here. They do below-ground and above-ground safe rooms and I just decided to put an above-ground safe room in my garage just because it is easier to access especially since I am 62 so I do not plan to move anywhere. It is easier to get into especially with dogs. Last May when we were devastated by tornadoes out here, there was one storm in particular making a bing on my neighborhood and it was two miles away and I did not have a safe room so I put three dogs in a tiny car and drove 100 miles to escape the thing. I drove and drove before I realized that I was safe because the tornado kept going on the direction that I was going and it was the stupidest thing that I could have done. You do not run from a tornado. It would have been devastating if the tornado had not left and it left before it hit my neighborhood. That is why we have a safe room in my garage now. They were wonderful. They were on time and quick because it did not require an excavation. They did not have to dig a hole in my garage and it is all secured by a whole bunch of huge bolts. It is anchored into my garage and they just did exactly what I wanted them to do. If I am going to need another safe room, I would absolutely use them again.

The service providers were on time and very professional, and the unit itself appears to be of good quality. However, the following issues were identified after the job was complete, which led to my luke-warm opinion. a) The top of the shelter unit has several instances of dents and noticeable scratches which were painted over at an attempt to conceal the damage. After the paint dried, the damage was still noticeable. b) Damage to concrete edges in the garage was made as a part of digging the hole. No repair was attempted. c) Damage to concrete areas on the driveway was made as a part of driving the tractor to perform the digging. d) Concrete/water solution spills remained on the driveway area and many liters spilled on the yard (about 3ft by 3 ft). Am I pleased that we have a storm shelter in case of a tornado, but the issues above are not appropriate. At a minimum, I would encourage anyone using Ground Zero to inspect the shelter thoroughly, inquire of the service providers how to prevent damage, and not complete payment until any damages are repaired.

Went to the Okahoma City Home and Garden Show, specifically looking for a storm shelter. Talked to a few companies and decided to go with GZS. Intially, the process started out fine. However, as it got closer to installation day, we grew concerned about the mapping of the utilities, especially our sewer drain and where it connected to the city sewer main. It was understood that GZS would notify the appropriate utility companies and we would obtain the shelter permit; however, there was no mention of locating our sewer line. We were contacted by a GZS customer service representative the Friday before the installation and were asked about the status of the shelter permit. We informed GZS that we could not obtain the permit unless we knew where we were going to install the shelter; we could not provide this information without knowing where the utilities were buried. We asked GZS for help with the sewer issue and were told that they did not possess that information - we should turn to the internet. We could not understand why a company that boasts about how much business they do in our city, could not help us in this matter; we did not believe we were being unreasonable and felt a customer-oriented company would not have a problem with this matter. We pressed the issue and the conversation became heated at times - we were frustrated as customers and the GZS representative was frustrated due the busy time of the year. However, that is no excuse in not providing appropriate problem resolution. It was obvious to us that we needed to speak to a manager or someone in authority to discuss our concerns. We asked to be called back by a manager, but did not receive a call until we called back insisting that a manager return our call. To our surprise, the owner of GZS called to discuss our concerns. However, the owner insisted that everything that could be done by his company was done and implied that we were being unreasonable - we disagree. After a few minutes of back-and-forth with the owner, he finally asked what he and his company could do to make things right. We asked for help with the sewer issue and placement of the shelter. The owner mentioned that he would be happy to help us, but it would cost us an additional $250.00 if had to come to our home to help with deciding where to place the shelter; we could not afford the additional money. To make a long story short, we obtained the permit (based on where we think the shelter should go), the mapping of the utilities was finally accomplished the afternoon before the install and we were on track to have our shelter installed. According to the installation agreement, we were told that our installation window was between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm the day of the install. We did not have a problem with this, but it would have been nice to have received a and quot;courtesyand quot; call first thing in the moring with a tentative arrival time instead of receiving a call twenty minutes before their actual arrival - we are busy people as well and could have used our time more wisely versus sitting around wondering when the installers were going to show up and the reason why this is such an issue is because if for some reason, we were not available when the installers arrived, it would have cost us an additional $250.00 for not being available. Lastly, the installers did not do a very good job cleaning up the mess. We understood that there would be some landscaping damage due to the method of installation (use of a flatbed truck, back hoe, etc.); however, the installers could have done a better job with the excess dirt as a result of digging the hole. The installer mentioned that we would have plenty of dirt left over. We said that we could use it to shore-up the foundation on the front porch, but we assumed that they would at least clean up the dirt in the street and smooth the residual dirt left on the lawn - perhaps, if we were the first installation appointment of the day, they probably would have done a better job. The botton line, we feel that GZS could have been more sympathetic with our concerns and perhaps incorporating useful information in their installation process, unique to the various and quot;majorand quot; cities in Oklahoma, would have saved us much anguish with this process. Thank you.

Absolutely wonderful experience with the Ground Zero crew who installed my shelter. They were punctual and efficient. The process was quick and they cleaned up after themselves. During the digging, a very small amount of damage was done on my garage. I didn't even know about it until the foreman explained to me how he was going to fix it - he repaired and repainted the area himself that afternoon. In addition to being very professional, the whole crew was kind to my 4 year old son who was very excited about the shelter. They gave him earplugs and showed him everything they were doing. It was a great experience and I recommend Ground Zero to anyone interested in a storm shelter.

My wife and I had been discussing whether or not to get one, and we decided that our bank will finance it at .9% and we say them on the new advertising. We called them out, they gave us an estimate on what they were going to do, and I called my bank and talked to them, and it is in the ground now. They did in the day, and they came in my garage, they dug the concrete out to make a square, and the cellar is premade, so they insert it in the hold that they made. They concrete around the opening, and that is it. They have it down to a science. It can hold 12 people. They were right here when they said they would be.

Went to showroom and ordered shelter in about 15 minutes. Scheduled job and crew showed up exactly when they said they would. Installed and cleaned up in about 3 hours. The crew who did my work was very professional and did a great job. It was FREAKIN COLD that day but they just got it done with no complaining. I can't remember the crew leader's name but I would recommend them to anyone who uses Flat safe. I was very satisfied and now my wife has a place to hide when storms come.

The installers arrived on time at 6:45am the morning of 1/15/14 to install the shelter. The process is supposed to take 3-4 hours and around 10:30am after they had appeared to be cleaning up there was loud banging coming from the garage. My husband went out to check and they were attempting to remove the shelter they had just installed. Apparently the shelter dropped below the required measurement (aka they dug the hole too deep) so they were trying to dig it out. Well they waited too long to notice this so the concrete had started to set. They then made another cut in my garage about a foot and a half further to the center without asking us if this was ok. They spent the next 5 hours trying to get the shelter out of the ground. I called the main office and expressed my concern and they said someone would call me back, but instead the installer knocked on the door saying he just got a call from his office. I was upset because the hole was now not centered in our garage and instead of looking like a value added item it looked like a problem that had to be fixed. I got them to cut off the top layer of concrete on the other side of the shelter so it at least looked symmetrical on both sides. They got the shelter out and asked if they could come back the next day to finish the rest and said they would come at 12pm because that worked with my lunch break. I was told it would only take about 2 hours. The installer did not call until after 12pm saying they would be there at 12:40pm...they stood around waiting for the concrete truck to get there for several hours and it took more like 5-6 hours for them to complete the project. Once they left and we looked at the shelter a few days later we noticed that the door is on crooked. We noticed the first night that there were several holes in our drive way and lots of stains and a pretty large crack. When they got there the second day we asked about the condition of the driveway and all the holes and cracks and they said our driveway must have been mixed with a bad batch of concrete and it was not their fault that the pressure washer put holes all over it. They did admit that the crack was caused by their machine. They cleared some stuff they had left in the garage and once they moved it we noticed large black stains all over the garage floor which they said was from one of their machines. The installers said the only way to fix the concrete was to completely tear up our driveway and re-pour it which they said would cost about $2,000. The installers told me to contact their main office and speak to their manager which I did. After talking to her and sending an email with pictures and descriptions, I got a call back from the owner (Richard) about 30 minutes later. Let me just say that I have never been talked to like this by someone in my entire life and I was shocked at how rude and disrespectful he was to me. He said he was calling because his installers needed to know if I wanted them to patch the crack they put in my driveway because they were going to do it while the concrete truck was there. I responded by asking and quot; What about the rest of the driveway?and quot; and his response was, and quot;I am not going to talk with someone like you about this...and quot; and went on to say how he knew this was going to be a problem and that he wasn't going to argue with me. I told him I would just like to have a conversation about it because I have thousands of dollars of damage that I didn't have before they came. He continued to be rude and blow me off and tell me we can just go to arbitration because this wasn't going to get anywhere. At that point I just took a breath and said can we just talk about how this was a job that was supposed to take 3-4 hours and has taken 2 days with your guys really messing up the install and you haven't even apologized to me. His response was, and quot;No well I haven't and you know what I just can't and won't right nowand quot;. I was shocked and at a loss for words. I have never been treated like that by someone and cannot believe he is a business owner and gets away with talking to customers that way. I will say that the installer who messed up to begin with was actually very apologetic through the whole process and we were able to work together through most of the problems without any issue by simple communication (minus them making an extra cut in my driveway without getting my ok). I was able to talk things through with them and one of the guys offered to call the owner and try to reason a little bit with him. He got him to agree to take $895 off the install price ($3995 to $3100) and my husband and I eventually agreed to this. While I still believe that we should not have to cover any of the cost to repair our driveway which was in perfect condition before they got there, I do not feel that spending more time and effort trying to reach an agreement with their owner would have been worth any amount of money. You simply cannot reason with unreasonable people and I refuse to put myself in a situation to where I am talked to the way their owner did. This is by far my worst experience with a contractor and I do not recommend that anyone does business with this company. While the installers were very helpful and apologetic for their mistakes, the owner completely ruined this experience for me. A job that was supposed to take 3-4 hours took two days and about 16 hours. The worst part is this is only a small bit of what was said to me by the owner and does not even truly explain how rude he was to me. We also found concrete spots all over my husbands car that was parked in the driveway next to ours while the work was being done and still have tons of marks in our garage and on the driveway. They also left a ton of rock and gravel in our street.
