About 9:00 on the Friday morning of Memorial Day weekend our second-floor AC unit stopped putting out cool air. We had family coming to stay for the weekend so we needed those rooms to be cooled since outside temps were forecasted to be in the 90s. I called the Vogts and they shoehorned me into their already full schedule for the day. Steve arrived just after noon and repaired the problem. I had previously scheduled them for about 3 weeks out to do their regular seasonal check on my 3 HVAC units. Steve was able to complete these as well while he was here. He was here about 2 1/2 hours and all work was completed in their usual professional manner at very reasonable cost. I have been using the Vogt family for all my HVAC needs for a number of years. In my opinion, you won't find a more honest and reliable contractor.
Description of Work: Air conditioning unit would not produce cooled air.

Our AC wouldn't cool our house below 75 degrees so we knew we had an issue. Two of my neighbors recommended Vogt so I gave them a call. A technician (owner's son) came out late morning the next day and spent 1.5 hours. Our system needed 2.5 pounds of refrigerant. The coils needed cleaning and the technician spent time looking for the source of the obviously leaking refrigerant. The technician used a handheld device to check the outside fan unit and the condenser coils for a leak. No leak was found. Was told the leak could possibly be the valve where the refrigerant is applied or could be in the copper running under the slab. Was told at this point he'd refill the refrigerant and monitor the situation to see if it leaks out again. If it doesn't then it was most likely the valve that he had already tightened. Technician also looked at the inside filters (okay) and the intake vents. Its a 60's house that uses the existing gaps in the support beams. Obviously this is not ideal for airflow. The technician gave me some options on how to add an additional vent intake inside the house. We also talked about options to cool the upstairs - adding a second system or adding a separate zone to the existing system. The technician arrived on time, in a marked vehicle and was well groomed (not really in a uniform, but looked presentable and comfortable). Technician did not smell of smoke (or BO - trust me, that can be an issue). Technician was friendly and knowledgeable. Great experience all around. My research shows their prices to be industry standard. Will use again.
Description of Work: AC was not cooling the house. Needed the system checked and serviced. Ended up adding refrigerant and looking for a leak.

I have used Vogt Heating and air conditioning service for several years without any complaint. Steve (the owner) has always done a professional job on all service calls. On December 23 I asked Vogt to complete a routine preventative maintenance on my central heating unit. Everything was working as it should but it hadn't been serviced in a year. Tony did the work. (Tony is the son.) Tony inspected the unit and came into the house to check carbon monoxide levels. He said the levels wer 14PPM and it was unsafe to operate. He said my 3 options were 1) replace the heat exchanger for $800 - $1,000; 2) replace the furnace for $2,000 - $2,500 or replace the entire unit for about $6,000. I said I didn't want to do anything at that time. He told me he would have to disable the unit where it would not operate. I told him I would sign a waiver releasing him of all responsibility and begged him not to incapacitate the heater. He told me he had given me three options to make it operable and safe and he would not leave it running without doing one the three options. I told him to just leave. He disabled the heater disconnecting parts, turned off the gas and unplugged it. I researched carbon monoxide levels on the Internet to see what was considered dangerous. Until the levels get to 25 PPM or greater it is not considered a health risk. The next day, December 24, I called the City of Oklahoma City building inspection department to ask if a heating contractor has the jurisdiction to turn my heater off. I was told they DID NOT and that 14 PPM carbon monoxide was not a problem. He offered to call Oklahoma Natural Gas to have them come test the CO levels. I decided to call Vogt and tell them I had called the City inspectors and that they (Vogt) did not have jurisdiction to turn off the heat and that they should come back out and get the heater running to the gas company could then check the CO levels. Steve (the owner & dad) did come to get the heater working again. It took him about two hours to repair what Tony had disabled. Oklahoma Natural Gas employees (which were extremely helpful) tested for carbon monoxide and found NONE present. BEWARE OF SOMEONE HOLDING YOUR HEATING UNIT HOSTAGE! Contractors do not have jurisdiction to disable your heat.

Response from VOGT HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING SERVICE
December 22, 2015, [Member Name Removed] called the office with a complaint that her furnace on the south side of her house was not heating, although the fan would still run. We were able to get a tech there within a couple of hours to determine she had a problem with her OG&E thermostat. He could replace it with a standard stat he had on the truck to get her heat operational, but she opted not to have this done. Our tech did all the other routine checks on this south heating system and received a small reading of carbon monoxide on his meter. Ms. [Member Name Removed] then asked if he would check her north furnace while he was there. He received a larger carbon monoxide reading in a short amount of time. As a company, we have a responsibility and a liability and with this larger reading, our tech erred on the side of caution and disabled her north furnace. The next morning, Ms. [Member Name Removed] called our office to tell us of her conversation with the city inspector and to ask if we would send our other tech to enable this furnace. Oklahoma Natural Gas would be coming some time that morning to do a carbon monoxide check and they would not be able to check it with the furnace disabled. He went, got the furnace going, and waited to see what reading ONG would get. Before our tech went back to enable the furnace, he talked to the city inspector to inquire as to what is our responsibility and liability when we get carbon monoxide readings. We are thankful that we have become better informed of how to proceed in the future. In addition, the carbon monoxide meter our tech used the first day has been sent off for calibration. 1/14/2016

We have used Vogt for preseason heating and AC checks and for a repair. They are knowledgeable, reliable and honest. During the latest visit, Tony worked diligently and thoroughly through each step of the ONG 26 point inspection that allows me to get a rebate for each furnace system checked. As opposed to most HVAC contractors that charge a service call fee and a fixed price per system, Vogt charges an hourly rate. As a result, on the latest visit, Tony completed all the checks in 1.75 hours and my complete bill was just $140.00. For most other contractors the bill would have been $80-$90 to come out and $60-$75 for each system. They work efficiently, professionally ,charge a fair rate for their work, and never try to sell repairs that aren't absolutely necessary.. I have been in the habit if having my furnaces checked before each winter. Tony told me the furnaces were in good shape and really only need to be checked every other year. You don't find many contractors who will tell you that you don't need something if it takes money out of their pockets.

We found Steve Vogt by the service sticker that was on the vintage 1985-ish central a/c unit that came with the house. I cannot recommend Steve highly enough. He is a man of great skill, patience and integrity, and as honest as the day is long. As a matter of fact, the main reason that I joined Angie's list was to recommend Steve Vogt (the other one is to find an electrician.) The last time he came out was when the downstairs central air unit quit working this past 4th of July weekend. He happened to be out of town on the holiday, but it was worth waiting for him to get back to deal with the problem. Small, independent businesses are the backbone of our society here in Oklahoma and although he does not have 24-hour on-call staff, he is responsive, timely, his prices are reasonable, he does good work, he backs up his work, and is phenomenally patient and willing to answer every question that I have. My one caution is that against Steve's advice, we decided to try a piece-meal replacement of the system a few years ago when one of the central air conditioning units was beyond repair. He told me that we would be better off in the long run by replacing the whole thing back then, but would we listen? NoOo. Steve cannot be blamed for our own and quot;penny wise/pound foolishnessand quot;! Reality is that the remnants of the old central hand a system are on life support, and our plan is to keep the old unit running until the weather breaks and we can replace the system between seasons and address some duct/vent issues that date back to the construction of the house --- too bad Steve wasn't there to influence the original design and construction of the house! A word about Steve's son Tony - I know that he started accompanying his dad, learning the ropes while in high school and estimate that he can't be any older than 22 or 23 as of 2011, maybe younger, but time flies. At any rate, he is a fine young man - our unit has been a learning laboratory for him :) Tony is definitely a chip off the old block. I hope that he takes over the business some day, but the times are changing. It is very difficult for independents these days.
Description of Work: Steve Vogt has been servicing our central heat and air conditioning system since we bought our house in 1998. Son Tony has been learning the business and has done some service and repairs as well.

Steve originally came out to see what it would entail to lay the gas line for my generator. He was here a few hours to determine the best way to do this. My house is 2 story and rather large so he gave me various options and we agreed on the best course. He thought he could do it for around $1800. but called me back when he checked with the city and the generator people and it was determined extra work was involved and larger materials needed for the line. he quoted $2800.He ended up charging a couple of hundred more for extra work due to the underground gas leak. He was here working 3 days all day long. Then he came back to pressure check it and found a leak under the house so he called ONG who had to lay a new line. Steve plumbed the new line and did some extra work on my water heater venting. He was in the house a lot to access part of the attic, He was neat, he put down spare rugs so he wouldn't soil my carpet. He is professional and just the best H and A guy around. He was careful not to let my dogs out and I totally recommend him for anything regarding heat and air and laying a gas line for a generator. I gave him an A review when he put in my heat and air and redid my duct work and it is still an A.
Description of Work: Steve Vogt layed a gas line for me to have a generator installed. He has previously done my heat & air so called him to see if he could do this. He had to go from one end of the attic in my 2 story home all the way to the other end of the house, down the outside wall and to the back. It was a 3 day job and he worked all day every day and did a fantastic job.
