Working with this company was the most horrible experience of our lives! Todd apparently could not deal with more than one contractor at a time as they constantly contacted us when he did not return their phone calls. He did not pay bills on time resulting in overdraft charges and late fees for us. He also did not return our phone calls for weeks at a time. He left the building site sitting for months without checking on it or following through with contractors. He did not keep accurate records of expenses. At the end he handed us an unorganized file folder of invoices that had charges for our residence as well as another in a different town. There was sometimes no proof of materials delivered to which residence and no record of materials returned. We had to go on blind faith that the materials paid from our account in fact were used for our project. Progress of the project was constantly delayed. Todd would tell us that he was held up because of the contractors or the weather or various other excuses and the contractors when successful at finally reaching him would tell us that he stated to them that the project was held up due to our indecisiveness although we had email trails of decisions made and relayed to him. He would also state that he had taken care of things when contractors would say otherwise. On one occasion we were delayed and we were told that it was due to supplies being on backorder. After several delays, I called the supplier only to find out that the supplies were never ordered in the first place. When I contacted Todd about this, he said that the order must have been lost by the supplier due to personnel changes. The blame was always on someone else. We feel that some of the subcontractors he used did not provide quality work. We have and are currently dealing with issues from poor quality work of the subcontractors including the stucco, plumbing, and electricity. He did not appear to regularly check on the subcontractors as he stated as we would go out to the building site and no work would be done and when he finally returned our call he would act surprised and say they were suppose to be there. Sometimes we would go out to the site and visit with the contractor only to find out that they had been on the clock waiting for Todd to show up so they could move forward and he did not show at the site at all causing another wasted day and more money out the door. The building process took one and half years longer (for a total 3 years +) than he had promised. He had also underestimated the cost of the project by substantial amounts. We found no record that he had even received bids on some of the work as he had stated. He also did not provide monthly documentation of invoices and payments as agreed upon at the onset. Our fault in this was trusting him and not insisting on meetings to review the financials. When asked, he would tell us we were coming in on budget or sometimes below budget. We found out from the bank that this was not the case. The only reason he was below or on budget was because he had not been paying the bills in a timely manner. We were shocked to find out that once the outstanding bills were paid, we were way over budget and not even half way finished with the house. At the end of the project, we had copies of checks written by him to pay for supplies, but in several cases no documentation showing the receipt of supplies and/or amount of supplies received at the building site. We feel that we possibly could have paid for supplies that were not even used at our site because of poor record keeping. Before the end of the project, Todd totally disappeared and we had to get another builder to finish the job. The other builder, who had worked with Todd in the past, finally convinced Todd to meet with him and us. When confronted about why he disappeared and left the project sitting his response was that he had collected all of his draw and by the end of the project he felt he was working for "free" and did not want to nor was planning to finish the project since he was paid all of the amount agreed upon to this point. He offered no apologies. This is just a highlight of some of the problems - far too many to list. The bottom line is I would not recommend this builder to anyone.
Description of Work: Trinity Homes, specifically, Todd Ehlers, was the building contractor for our home.
