Kenny and I discussed our home fire-repair needs on the phone a couple of weeks before we were ready for him to begin. Since this was a small job and he had not seen it, he quoted an hourly price for a crew, to which we agreed. He stayed in contact to confirm our start date, and showed up just when promised. Upon arrival Kenny estimated the quantify of materials he would need. I offered to go to a nearby Home Depot with him to purchase it, so I paid for the materials and Kenny hauled them in his pickup to our house. When we returned from the store Kenny and his helpers went right to work and called me as they were nearing completion to return for inspection. The quality of work was good and the time required was reasonable -- a total of about 3 hours including our time going to and from the store, installation and cleanup. Our job did not include Kenny taping, bedding or texturing since our painter will be doing that after this installation. My opinion is that Kenny and his crew were quite proficient on the technical side the drywall business. The only issue I encountered was on the business side. I rated him lower on Professionalism because the amount he quoted that I owned him at the end of the job was higher than the hourly rate he had quoted before the job. While he attempted to justify the change, after the job is completed is not the time to do so. I would have rated him lower than a B in Professionalism except for the fact that after some discussion, he agreed to honor the hourly rate and I added an hour for travel to the job -- reasonable for a small job like this. In summary, I believe that Kenny has good technical ability and is re-learning the business side of this business after being out of it for a while. All things considered, I would recommend Kenny for drywall installation -- just confirm your terms clearly up front for everyone's benefit.
