Second Opinion was assigned by our home warranty company. Mere incompetency doesn't begin to describe this company. Whatever you do, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER hire this company. If your home warranty company assigns them, ask for a different company. July 1 – I contacted the home warranty company to advise that my upstairs air conditioning unit was not working. July 3 – I was contacted by Second Opinion to schedule a technician to come out. The only thing this company has done correctly was to actually schedule the technician for July 4, a holiday. July 4 – The technician arrived during the scheduled service window. He determined the blower unit needed a new motor and that since he didn't have one on his truck, another visit would need to be scheduled to replace the motor. July 5 – The blower was replaced. July 6 – I noticed the blower would not turn off even though the outside compressor would shut off when the room temperature reached the setting on the thermostat. To troubleshoot, I switched the thermostat fan from "auto" to "on" to see what would happen and it popped, sparked, and I smelled burning insulation. To hopefully avoid a fire, I switched off the breakers for the upstairs blower and compressor which, by the way, was the only way I could get the blower to turn off. July 7 – I contacted Second Opinion to tell them the problem. They sent a technician that same day who determined a fuse needed to be replaced. Since they didn't have everything they needed on the truck, they had to leave and return later with the needed parts. They replaced the fuse and my programmable thermostat with a non-programmable. They could not get the blower motor to turn back on and after several calls (with supervisors, I presume), they left for the day. July 10 or 11 – Different technicians returned and determined that a circuit board and mounting brackets for the motor were needed. The circuit board was needed since the one in the motor was fried because it was installed incorrectly. Since the company didn't have the parts in stock, they had to be ordered. July 17 – I contacted Second Opinion because I had not heard from them to reschedule the technicians. I was told the parts would arrive on July 18 and we rescheduled a technician to come July 19 between 8:00 and 10:00. July 19 – The technician was late, arriving around 11:40 am. He stated that the mounting brackets they received were not the correct parts. He said he would check with Locke Supply to see if they might have them and if so, would return later in the day. If not, the parts would need to be ordered. He also stated that the entire unit would need to be rewired, not just the circuit board replaced. He said he'd call to let us know what was going on. We received no call. So, as of the time I'm writing this, we have had no upstairs air conditioning for nearly three weeks. The incompetent technicians from Second Opinion fried a circuit board and cannot order something as simple as mounting brackets for the motor.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They were at my house 3 different times to fix AC each time they said it was fixed and each time I had to call back to have them come out again because it was still broke. The 4th time the didn't even make it to my house cause they said after I waited all day for them that it would be two days before they could get out to look at it again. Told them to not come back and I would have some that had some decent customer service come fix it for me. DO NOT USE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! They said they were running a special for a new water heater if you bought a new heating system & air conditioning unit. To make a very long, still ongoing story short.... *They had to come out 4-5 times to get the heater to function properly. *They sold me an air conditioning unit that my house is not wired for. *All 3 (heater, air conditioning, water tank) FAILED inspection when the city came out. The company keeps canceling their appointments to come fix the things the city says they need to finish. *Both my electric & gas bills have increased significantly since having their units installed. *They left my floor a muddy mess and damaged it to the point that I can't get it clean. *The receptionists are so rude and have 2 tactics: they put you on hold & leave you there...one time I was put on hold, after 25 minutes I hung up and called back, only to have the other lady tell me the one who put me on hold left the building. They also say they will talk to their boss and call you back. Days go by with no return calls. I could list a lot more problems, but those are the highlights. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

In early July our A/C wasn't working and our home warranty company assigned Second Opinion to come and repair it. The tech came on time, and after hearing the description he judged it was likely low on freon, just like the previous summer when a different company helped us. But when he realized my husband wasn't home his demeanor changed. He tested the line and found it low on freon but then tried to insinuate that the system was not safe. He talked down to me, unwillingly to explain why it would have passed inspection without being safe. His aggressive sales pitch for a new system prompted me to call my husband for back up that we only wanted the repair. Finally the tech added the freon, but not before telling me how "lucky" I was to have his service because of how few techs carry tools to work on such "old, outdated" equipment. After charging $300 he left a detailed description of the system he recommended. Not six weeks later we have had to call the warranty again for what we can only assume is low freon. Because it falls within the 60 day guarantee we were directed to contact Second Opinion again. My husband made the call and mentioned his concerns about how the tech had treated me and requested a different tech. A 4 hour window of time was offered for an appointment the next day so we scheduled it even though it meant cancelling our out of state trip to our friends' wedding. Within two hours the receptionist called back and said there had been a mistake and they couldn't come out the next day. My husband was upset and wondered out loud if the company was willing to lie about appointments that they might be willing to leave a leak to ensure return buainess. Then the tech was handed the phone and proceeded to chew out and insult my husband and question his capability at his job, then hung up before my husband could say anything. We have asked our warranty company to mark in our file that we will not have that company do any service again. Good companies are good because of their work and how they treat people. Good companies don't have to be defensive or belligerent.

Description of Work: They came out and made a complete misdiagnosis of the cause of my A/C failure and almost nullified my home warranty due to their incompetence. They caused a huge nightmare with my home warranty company and for me to have to go almost two weeks without a/c. They are the same company as First-Time Heating and Plumbing. I banned them with my home warranty company for doing the same thing, and didn't know the connection to Second Opinion or I would've never let Second Opinion on my property.

American Home Shield sent them out to repair one our heaters. They came out four times. First trip they bypassed the "second stage" and ordered a circuit board. The system was working when they left, but stopped later that day. The second trip they installed the circuit board and the system was working when he left. It went out later that day. The third trip a supervisor came out and installed a plain non-programmable thermostat in place of the programmable one. The system was working when he left, and he agreed to come back and install a programmable thermostat. The system failed later that day. The original technician came out and reinstalled the original thermostat and informed us that the owner of Second Opinion said they would no longer attempt to fix the system. The system was not working. It was 9 degrees the following morning. Fortunately we had more than one unit, so while it was pretty cool in part of the house nothing froze. Second Opinion turned in a report to American Home Shield essientially saying that it was a design flaw in our system that was the problem, not their inability to fix it. We asked American Home Shield to send someone else out for a "second opinion" and see if they could fix it. In about 15 minutes the technician identified the problem as a capacitor, changed it, and the system has been working fine ever since. In my opinion, Second Opinion is definitely a company to avoid. I would recommend staying as far away from them as possible.
Description of Work: Attempted to repair on of our heating units. After three attempts they gave up, and said they weren't working on our system any more.
