They arrived right on time for the appointment, and were very efficient and professional. I had to leave for a short time, and when I got back, they were finished -- an hour ahead of their scheduled time. They had vacuumed my house to get rid of stray bits of insulation, and even vacuumed my yard where their blower machine had left insulation in the grass. Very impressive! When they left, you couldn't tell they had been there. I would definitely use them again for any HVAC or related services!
Description of Work: Installed blown-in attic insulation and an automatic condensate overflow switch in my home.

We called Interstate Heating & A/C late on a Thursday afternoon because the air conditioner was running, but it wasn't cooling the house. They sent a technician (Kai) out Friday morning, and he found that there was a leak in the coils above the furnace. The a/c unit was new, but the furnace, coils, etc. were all very old, so we weren't surprised when Kai suggested replacing everything but the air conditioner. We felt that his recommendations and the price were reasonable, so we arranged to have the work done the following Tuesday. (I didn't rate the price because we didn't get any other estimates.) Before he left, he charged up the coils with coolant to keep us cool through the weekend. On Tuesday morning, a technician (Casey) called to let us know that they were on their way. They arrived right on time and immediately set about their work. The job took about five hours, and they worked the entire time. They were professional, courteous, and open about the work they were doing. When it was completed, Casey took the time to show us what they had done, how to change the filter, and made sure that we had all of the literature that went with the new furnace, thermostat, etc. We are very happy with their work and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced central heat and air system except for the a/c unit and the duct work inside of the house. This included the gas furnace, coils, line set, flue, condensate pump & drain line, and thermostat.

Mark was great! He spent about an hour on the job and kept me informed about everything that needed to be done and what he was doing. Showed me what was wrong and explained what he needed to do to fix it. He was very respectful and knowledgeable.
Description of Work: Coils had frozen up and water had leaked into house and soaked carpet. After plumber had come over and determined it was a problem with heat/air, I called Interstate. I called them at 5:00 and they had a technician out at 6:30 the same evening (did not charge extra for late call). They added refrigerant (it was virtually out) and cleaned the unit.

I was able to get an appointment the same day and the technician was very polite and knowledgeable. My heat pump was stuck in heat cycle and he diagnosed the problem as wiring and ended up replacing the thermostat wiring. He also rewired the thermostat so that the auxiliary heat now works correctly. I am very pleased with all aspects of this service.

The repairman and the installers were professional and courteous. I was pleased with the work and the workers. I would use them again--although I don't expect to replace the heat and air for many years.
Description of Work: Air conditioner wasn't working. It was the compressor but the unit was 15 years. The technician gave me all the options but in the end I decided to replace the entire heat and air unit since they were both 15 years old. Interstate did not pressure me to choose one option or another.

Overall, it was a good experience and they have my recommendation. If it was available, I'd grade them as B+.
Description of Work: Dianna called me promptly in response to my late night email and scheduled a service call for between 1 & 3 that afternoon. She called at 12: 30 to let me know the tech was on his way. Mark diagnosed and repaired the problem which was burned out contact points. He called me to explain the repair and cleaned and checked the unit before leaving. Service was excellent. The only reason I rate them a 'B' is because they failed to tell me ahead of time that they charged a $79 diagnostic fee which is added to the repair charge. I've had repairmen charge a minimum service call fee but they've always waived it if I actually proceeded with the work. Still, they're work was prompt and professional and I'd certainly use them again.

Very well, both technicians knew what they were doing and with exception of no legs for the heat pump had no stoppages throughout the process. The legs had to be picked up, 1 technician went for them, the other continued the replacement.Both techs well versed in sheet metal, plumbing and electrical installations. They had all the tools and equipment necessary to do the work.
Description of Work: Replaced Heat pump outside and Heating Air handler inside. Including new high volume filter, digital programmable thermostat, and outside disconnect Reused existing plenum, return duct connection copper tubing and wiring from existing units.Heat pump is Sear 16 rated, Filter is next to best rated.

My hat is off to them for coming out on such a severely bad day but I knew even colder temps were forecast. They were polite, took the time to identify and fix the problem and left me a satisfied customer.
Description of Work: In the midst of a deep freeze, my heating unit wasn't keeping inside temperature high enough. Interstate came out the same day I called and checked the unit, found that there was a bad blower limiter. They replaced the limiter and adjusted the gas pressure.

The company's scheduler, Dianna, really made a big effort to get my unit scheduled and to work within my job schedule. Mark the technician was very professional. He explained all the tests, checks, and adjustments he made and answered all my questions. My heating unit was found to be in good shape, so no additional charges were made; everything was covered by my service plan. Finally, approximately an hour after Mark had finished, Dianna called to ask if I was satisfied with Mark's work. How refreshing - just a super company!
Description of Work: My previous, and first, experience with Interstate was a service call for an inoperative heat pump outside unit. During that service call, I signed up for the "gold" recurring service package, which includes scheduled fall and spring periodic maintenance and significant discounts if any work other than minor cleaning and adjustment is required. This rating is for my scheduled fall HVAC service (pre-winter). It was performed later than originally planned because I was unavailable. Technician Mark checked the electric heat strips in the furnace unit, checked the blower motor for freeness and current draw (pretty low), did some minor cleaning, tested the control functions, and checked/tested the electronics. He pronounced it "in good shape and ready for winter".

Our furnace wasn't working and I emailed Interstate for service at 8pm. I was contacted by phone an hour later and the technician talked me through a series of tests that isolated the problem to the thermostat. The entire conversation took less that 10 minutes. I replaced the thermostat the next day and the problem is solved. I will definetely use this company in the future. There was no charge for the help.

An excellent overall experience! Our outside A/C unit stopped working on Monday afternoon. Our house, like most modern houses, is not designed for open-window cooling. So, Monday night was pretty miserable without air conditioning, and nobody in the house slept well. I used Angie's List to find an HVAC service company the next morning. I spoke with Diana (the scheduler/dispatcher) of Interstate Heating & AC, and she blocked me for the next available opening, which was, unfortunately, the next day. But, she promised to keep an eye on her schedule and if a block of time freed or another customer cancelled, she would try to get a technician to my home the same day (Tuesday). As luck would have it, one of Interstate's techs finished a job early and I was able to be scheduled for the same day (woo hoo!). The tech, Kai, called and got directions to our semi-rural home and arrived about 45 minutes later. Kai had the outside unit troubleshot within five minutes! A dual motor start condenser had gone bad, and neither the compressor nor fan would start properly, thus NO COOLING. Kai replaced the bad part in short order and connected his gauge set to check the refrigerant level in the system. He explained each step along the way - I received a mini education on cooling systems. A great experience overall. In fact, so good that I signed up for the monthly subscription, which results in much lower service charges (if needed) and twice annual system checks. The cherry on top: Diana called me the next day to follow-up to be sure we were happy with their work!
Description of Work: The outside air conditioner unit was not running at all. The technician, Kai, diagnosed the problem, replaced defective parts, checked the refrigerant levels, and restored the system to full operation.

First experience with Interstate. Bobby came to clean and test my systems. He was extremely professional and courteous throughout. Got right to work, and did a magnificent job. Condenser coils looked like new when he was finished with no bent fins (I've had a lot of problems with other contractors before - trying to get them to really clean the outer units). Fully tested the systems, and documented the performance data on the work order. Very detailed notes on work order with very legible handwriting. Offered advice on how we were running the system. We have a large guest room that was it's own HVAC zone. We would turn off the HVAC to this zone when it was unoccupied to save energy. But, Bobby explained that doing this was allowing very hot air (almost 100 degrees up there) to be sucked into the cool air return, and causing the rest of the house to not cool well on very hot days. Changed the thermostat settings as recommended, and now we now have no problem keeping everything cooled to the thermostat settings no matter how hot it gets outside. Thanks! Will definately use this contractor again.
Description of Work: Cleaned, inspected and functionally tested 2 Carrier Central HVAC systems. These were very complex multi-zoned Infinity systems with 5 zones, fresh air exchanger, air purification, and Germicidal UV lamps that have baffled several previous contractors.

I was very pleased. I had anticipated that the air conditioner may have to be replaced. He was prompt, professional, and up-front about everything he did. I felt like the price was quite reasonable.
Description of Work: Diagnosed problem with non-working air conditioner as being low on refrigerant and the outside compressor was clogged with several season's worth of debris and cottonwood. The repairman explained what he was doing and why. He showed me the readings on the test instruments and told me how to avoid such problems in the future. He thoroughly cleaned the compressor and replaced refrigerant. He answered all my questions.

Calling Interstate was our response to the company's rating in Angie's List. We spoke to the owner and were pleased with his answers to our questions and his willingness to come personally to evaluate our AC system, our needs and desires. He seemed fair and honest in discussing our options, the advantages/disadvantages of our options and left the choice to us without pressure. He said any installation would be scheduled for one week from that day, but he would see to it that our AC would be working before he left and would remain working until replacement of the seriously leaking coil. He was true to his word! The company offers a discount for senior citizens or military.
Description of Work: Removed 4 ton AC coil and condensor. Replaced with 5 ton unit. Removed furnace and coil. Replaced coil and reinstalled furnace; rebuilt duct board transition, installed new gas line, etc.

lousy,since they did not want my business because the house had renters living there{an 80 yr. old couple}
Description of Work: i made an appointment with this company to repair the air conditioner in a home , but after telling them that i was renting the house to another party they did not want my business as " it is not as profitable to them" to repair an aair conditioner that is in a rental property. This is a house i am buying for my son and am renting it to another party at present since my son is not in ok. at this time. I will not call this company back for ANY repair or replacement.

After a bad experience with another HVAC company, I consulted Angie's List and found Interstate Heating & Air Conditioning. When I called to set up the appointment, I told them I had been referred by Angie's List. From start to finish, the whole process went smoothly. I received a call from the office confirming the appointment I'd scheduled with their answering service. The morning the work was to be performed, the company called me and notified me they were on their way. Within less than 20 minutes the technician, Kai, arrived at the jobsite. He was friendly, courteous and professional. He explained everything he was doing while he tested the unit to diagnose the problem. He showed me when he was receiving active readings and how he was able to narrow down the location of the problem. He answered all of my questions and gave me helpful suggestions. It turned out the problem was a bad thermostat. I wanted to upgrade the thermostat to a more expensive unit which he didn't have on hand in the service vehicle, so he went to the shop to pick it up, returned and installed the unit in less than an hour. I was able to get to work with minimal disruption. After the job was done, the company called me to make sure that all of my needs were met and that I was happy with the service. He recommended a very reasonably priced annual service program which we are happily going to purchase. We are confident that our A/C unit will last us a long time with Interstate Heating & Air Conditioning in charge of the maintenance.

Kai, the service rep, arrived when promised, put on his shoe covers before entering the house, and went to the thermostat, finding that it was dislodged and probably not making proper contact. He explained the workings of the thermostat in detail and fixed it's placement. Even though he thought that would fix our problem, he proceeded to do a nearly 2 hour inspection of every component of our AC system, added a pound of freon to make sure it was operating at peak efficiency, and THOROUGHLY cleaned the outside compresser unit. He answered all of my questions very clearly and patiently, and showed me everything he did, and explained why. Even though I expressed a willingness to have one part replaced, he showed me how he could clean it and make it work perfectly to specificications. I was very, very impressed.

We bought a forclosure that had been sitting vacant for almost a year. The A/C was not blowing cold so we called out a couple different companies for estimates since A/C work can get real expensive real fast. Interstate took much more time than the other company (which is a good thing) in trying to find exactly what the problem was. The repairman was very knowledgable and friendly. He fixed us up and it ended up costing us less than the estimate. If you don't know and if you are military you get a discount:) I didn't see this advertised anywhere and I didn't bring up I was military to try and get a discount, he just noticed from stuff around my house and asked if I was military and gave us a discount. Overall great job and would highly recommend to family and friends. I almost forgot, he even used shoe covers when he came in from the outside everytime so he wouldnt track in dirt, how awesome is that!

I just bought an old house and I made an appt to have the A/C unit checked out, just so that I'd know what to expect when the weather warms up. I chose Interstate based on other reports on Angie's List. Our appt was for 8 a.m., and a few minutes after 8, I received a phone call from the company saying that they were dispatching Bobby right then. He arrived about an hour later. He was friendly, and we talked about the work that I wanted him to do. I was a little shocked that it would cost nearly $100 for EACH unused gas line to be capped, but my home inspector said it was a safety issue, so I said that's what I wanted. I also wanted to cap the gas line to an old wall heater, but after Bobby got the cover off and inspected it, he said the valve was closed tightly and as long as I didn't mess with it, I really didn't have to cap that line. I decided to leave it alone, and he put the cover back on the heater and went to work on capping the other gas lines. Then he inspected and cleaned the A/C unit outside. He identified two capacitors that had lower readings than they should, but since it's a really old unit and I have a home warranty, I didn't want to sink a few hundred dollars into fixing them. Bobby did a good job of explaining everything he found with the unit and the condition of the various components. He offered a maintenance agreement where I could pay about $11 a month and it would save me money on parts and labor if something were to happen to the unit, but I thought it would be redundant with the home warranty, so I said no. He didn't pressure me, though -- just offered it as an alternative. He completed the work, then he came inside and explained how to use my programmable thermostat. He didn't charge for figuring out what was going on with that wall heater or taking the time to explain the thermostat. The A/C maintenance was $79, and each capped gas line was $99.

Although there were some problems with installation, they made sure it was done right and promptly took care of problems that arose. The original estimate did not include a special thermostat necessary because of the wiring in our house; they changed it out at no additional charge. They went out of their way to show me what was wrong with the old unit, what was being done to replace it, how the new unit worked, and how to program the thermostat. I am not just satisfied; I'm delighted with their professionalism.
Description of Work: Checked out old heat unit (likely original with the house in 1975), showed me what the problem was, and offered me the options of repair and replacement. Replaced heat and air units and added whole-house humidifier.

After installing a new carbon monoxide (CO) detector in my home, I was surprised when it was set off by the furnace. I called Interstate Heating & Air to diagnose the problem with the furnace. Interstate's receptionist was courteous and friendly. The service person arrived on time at 8:30AM the next day. He was also courteous, and he wore yellow bags over his shoes in order to protect my carpet. With an industrial carbon monoxide meter, we determined that the heater was NOT putting out dangerous levels of CO after all. The level at the registers was no more than 2ppm, well within the safe range. At that point, it was clear that I had a faulty CO detector. Instead of calling it quits, the service person took the time to disassemble the furnace to inspect the heat exchanger just in case. In the end, there was no work to be done, so the service person charged only the $79 service call fee.

The technician was on time and polite. The office had called in advance to let me know he was on his way-this was helpful because I needed to put my dogs and cats in a separate room. He took about 45 minutes to complete the job. Every time he came in the house he put booties over his shoes, which I thought was very considerate.
Description of Work: Heater winter service. This was the first time the heater had been serviced since I moved in several years ago and I was afraid it might have some problems. Good news-system working properly!

My air conditioner had fried and I had 2 other vendors from Angie's List come out to educate me and to give me an estimate before I called Interstate. The owner, Kai, came over and really made me feel comfortable about what needed to be done - replace the air and my 40+ year old horizontal heater in my attic - ouch! The other 2 vendors suggested the same, but Kai's approach to what manufacturers to consider, installation needs, etc., just made more sense. The first vendor told me that they could do the job in 6 hours! The second one said 1 day. Kai said it would take a least 2 days because a good installation is what it's all about - doesn't matter how expensive a machine is if it's dropped, banged, or just a plain bad installation. David and Adam did a great installation (heat pump and heater) and had it done in 2 days. I never realized how antiquated our system was until they turned on the air - about 3x the air flow and the air was really cold. We cooled the house down by 3 degrees in less than 5 minutes. I look forward to the possible 30% savings that our new heat pump should afford us. They were all very professional and courteous - I would highly recommend them!
Description of Work: I had our air conditioner replaced with a heat pump and our ancient heater in the attic replaced, too. They dismantled my heater, first, and had to have a 3rd person brought in to help get it down from the attic - it weighed a ton! They reworked my duct work and plenums and laid heavy plywood across the rafters for better/safer access. They enlarged my 2 1950's air intakes so that I will no longer have to climb across the attic to change the air filters. They took away my old air conditioner and ran new lines out to the soon to be installed heat pump. Installed the heat pump and trained me on my new electronic thermostat.
