We were very pleased with Rusty and his crew. Their expertise with design and their use of quality material was appreciated. Their experience showed. They were also able to work with my schedule. The brick garden is beautiful, even without the plants. Yes we would recommend them as well as hire them again.

When Rusty came out for the estimate he thoroughly explained the process that he would use to fix the problems. He and Mike arrived on time to start the job and worked diligently and professionally and cleaned up the job site when they were finished. He walked around the house with me to make sure that I was happy with their work. Customer service is very important to Rusty. I am very pleased with the work they performed, would use them again and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I had cracks in the mortar in the archway on my front porch, crumbling mortar between a brick veneer wall and the side of my porch, a few loose bricks on a retaining wall and various cracks in the mortar around the house.

Out of three, Rusty Hill was the only mason I called who answered his phone. I left multiple messages with two others and never heard back. Rusty came out and gave me an estimate, told me how long it would take him to fix it, and how he would do it. I hired him a week later when I was unable to get a response from any other masons. He contacted me a few days later to set up the day to start the work. On the day arranged, he and his crew showed up on time and went right to work. Rusty kept me informed as the work went along, and indulged my interest in coming up on the roof and observing the process. He explained everything he did and came and got me when the new cap was on so that I could see it before they removed the scaffolding. The job was finished in two days, as Rusty had promised, came in under the estimate he gave me, and I did not have to pay him a penny until the job was done and I was happy with it. In addition, he cleaned my gutters and he and the crew left the patio in better condition than it was in when they started, cleaning up everything. The roof was well-protected throughout the entire job, and cleaned at the end of it as well. All in all, the best kind of experience with a tradesman.
Description of Work: The bricks on the chimney were spalling, which means shedding pieces. The masonry was crumbling, and the cap on the chimney was cracked. I called several masons to find out my options and get estimates for fixing it. The job turned out to be: removing old bricks and cap, repairing and replacing bricks, putting a new cap on the chimney, and fixing the flashing around the base of the chimney.

This company did a great job. The employee was prompt, he completed the job quickly, and suggested where we might add a bit of caulk in a few small places. The next day the owner, Rusty, texted me to make sure I was completely satisfied with the work that was completed!!!

very well. they showed up in a timely fashion. they were polite and professional; good work ethic. while working on project, the communication was great. rusty would suggest options and explain the "why's" and "how's." he was very concerned about customer satisfaction and went above and beyond our expectations.
Description of Work: 2 brick pathways where the brick had become disengaged/uneven needed to be corrected. replacement of miscellaneous mortar and replacement of old bricks in cracked brick patio area. correction of raised bricked area which had been affected by large trees/roots. replacement of broken mortar in bricked portion of driveway. replacement of deteriorated wood "spacers" in driveway. the house is 50 years old or more. the brick work is original to the house and needed a "mason doctor."

I contacted Rusty, I was able to send a picture and he gave me a quote right away. He sent me a document with the quote so I could turn it into insurance. He even provided a second, more detailed quote after insurance requested an itemized document. Also, Rusty is a good texter, which makes it easy to communicate at work or for a quick question. Rusty and his crew showed up on time and I gave him the picture of the mailbox I was wanting built. I requested 2 different colors of mortar for the stone and brick and he said that wouldn't be a problem. He did more work/diagnostic to the footing of the mailbox than I expected. He dug into the ground and made sure there was 18" of cement from the last mailbox. He also extended the footing for the new mailbox. Rusty and his crew were here almost all day. Rusty is the type of boss/owner who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty along side his crew and I respect that. The custom stone/brick mailbox I chose wasn't an easy task to build; it took skill to get the top portion right. Before the job was complete, he had me come take a glance at the mailbox to make sure it was to my liking. Once it was complete, he wanted to leave the supports overnight and he insisted I not pay him until the next day when he picked the supports up. Rusty was a pleasure to work with and you can tell his is a trustworthy, family-oriented business owner (his dad and son are also masons).
Description of Work: Replaced brick mailbox with a custom stone/brick mailbox and removed the pile of brick from the old mailbox.

Brad did a fantastic job of restoring multiple brick exposures on our interior that had been neglected and/or hidden beneath plaster for years. The home is over 100 years old and Brad managed to match the brick and mortar extremely well while rebuilding a fireplace and chimney, which allowed us to let the original character of the place really shine. We'd recommend his work to anyone.

I hired Mr. Hill to replace all the brick on the corner of my house (three exterior walls, roughly 300 sq.ft. in total). I had to essentially replace the entire corner of the house (all the way down to the sill plate) because of wet rot and termite damage. I worked it out with Hill for them to demo the old brick, allow me time to replace all the studs and wall sheathing, and then coordinate with him to come back out and install new building stone. His quotation was very fair and reasonable, even with all the extra hassle of trying to work out my own scheduling of the sequence. Mr. Hill was also one of only two contractors out of six who were responsive to my inquiries for this work. Mr. Hill did exactly what he said he would do for me - which is what I believe is of the utmost importance in finding a good contractor. He provided me with a quote up front, he told me how long it would take, and he did his best to be flexible with me throughout the whole process of the demo work, my portion of the remodel, and his subsequent installation of the stone. His crew's work was of the highest quality and Mr. Hill is quite simply a gentlemen and good man to work with. There was no payment required prior to the work beginning, and he didn't seek any payment until he finished. There were only a couple of times early in the process where it was difficult to reach him on the phone; HOWEVER, it's understandable knowing how busy and how highly in-demand he is. If you are looking for a great stone artisan and someone who is dependable, you can't go wrong by hiring Hill Custom Masonry.

Response from Hill Custom Masonry
Looked in my phone as far back as 6-30-14 Not sure if I even received these pictures. My Mother has been in the hospital , may have missed this one , but I am not 100 percent sure. Would have liked a call to see if I had received the pictures. If you look at my reviews this if not how I operate my business.

Mr. Hill came to the house and looked at the job to be done. He explained in detail what he would do to correct the problem. He was very knowledgeable and gave examples of how he would proceed. I contacted three other masonry companies and decide to use Mr. Hill because of the experience he had and the price seemed reasonable among all the estimates I received. Mr. Hill called before the job began, to check, if it was convenient to start the work. Mr. Hill and his men were prompt and very courteous. Mr. Hill and the men took extra time to get the color of the mortar as close as possible to the old mortar, which was 22 years old. They were careful to do each area and repaired some bricks, too. The clean-up was very good. I would recommend them to others, who have mortar projects or repairs to be done and will use them again, if needed.

We found Hill Custom Masonry on Angie's List when we noticed some cracking on our porch and saw that we were losing mortar from the archway above our porch. Rusty called us back and asked for pictures of the archway so he could give us an estimate on the repairs. In the mean-time we had a couple of other estimates given by other brick masons. While we were waiting on the estimate back from Rusty (Owner of Hill Custom Masonry), one of the other masons left a voice mail on our phone telling us that he would not stand under the archway and we should put up caution tape and not use our front door until repairs were made; a real "doom and gloom" analysis. When Rusty called back with the estimate, we told him of the story from the other brick mason and Rusty said that he wanted to "come out and see for himself" what our damage looked like. Rusty was at our house the next day and looked at the column and archway and confirmed the price he quoted us over the phone ($5,000.00). We told Rusty that we were going with him to do the repairs and he stated that he would be back in about a week and a half. He also eased our concerns by letting us know that our column and archway was not going to fall down during this time-frame.Rusty was also very professional and courteous in the many phone and face-to-face conversations that we had with him. Rusty called a week later a said he was ready to start tomorrow. The crew started on Friday October 3. They tore down the entire column and the stone/brick above the porch. They had to increase the size of the footing for the column (part of the original problem) as well as add a brace to the inside of the column and a lentil to support everything. we decided to go back with a straight line of brick/stone instead of an archway, and Rusty was a big help in assisting us in figuring out what the finished pattern looked like. We gave Rusty some brief instructions as to what we liked and did not like as far as the pattern, but we gave him lee-way as to what the finished product looked like. He even repaired a couple of cracks in the mortar around our garage door. We are 100% satisfied with the work of Rusty and his crew and we would hire him to preform any masonry work needed on our house in the future.

We had an archway above our front door that had cracked, was loose and needed to be replaced and repaired. We contacted Brad Hill initially who referred us to his father, Rusty, of Hill Custom Masonry for the work. It took a couple of weeks for Rusty to find the time to assess the problem and give us an estimate and another week or so before he could work us into his schedule, but once the work was started, it was completed quickly and professionally. Rusty was very forthright with options available to fix our problem and gave us the pros and cons with each option available to us. After considering his advise, we elected to replace the arch with a traditional rectangular shaped doorway. Our doorway looks great and we're very happy with his work.

We have a 25 year old patio with brick pavers and stacked stone walls and accents. We replaced a large part of the patio with concrete and needed to have numerous areas of the pavers leveled and repaired. We also need to have the stacked stone retaining walls and accent areas rebuilt. We called Rusty and within a day he had a crew of up to 5 men working on our site. They did a great job and we highly recommend them.

Rusty Hill came to review and bid the project personally and gave us some great ideas. We selected Coronado stone, and Rusty and his crew were able to complete the work in 3 days. He worked with us every step of the way, and made some excellent suggestions that made the finished product better than we had imagined. Rusty was very responsive to our ideas and always found the best solutions. His price was fair, his work was outstanding, and he and his crew were professional and courteous. We could not be happier with Rusty's work, and will definitely use him again and recommend him to others.

I had originally hired Rusty's son Brad to do some repairs on my historic Mesta Park home prior to selling. Brad's home was destroyed during the tornadoes in Moore, and Rusty stepped up to help his son by completing my project. I couldn't have been more pleased with the service and the end result. They matched the mortar and the brick with the existing mortar and surrounding brick and really made everything look right again. Finding a mason that really cares about the quality of their work is very difficult today, and Rusty and his crew did excellent quality work. They cleaned up the place when they were done, and the repairs are difficult to detect, especially if you didn't know before where they had been. I can't recommend them highly enough, and will be using them again on other jobs I have at my new home.

I can't say enough positive things about Rusty and his staff. Rusty was professional and timely in coming out to do the bid and then he scheduled the project extremely quickly when I asked him if he could get to our project in short order. Rusty came to our home and did the prep work before our work date and the project went quicker than I could have imagined. He reinforced the wall with steel and even added some drainage pipes. At the end of the project, they carted away all of the debris and cleaned up the area they worked in. As an additional kindness, he even went around my house and patched mortar holes on the brick facade of the house. I wish I had more business to send his way because he was a joy to work with- professional, honest, hard working, personable, and they went above and beyond to make sure I was a satisfied customer. I would recommend Hill Custom Masonry to anyone.

Rusty had to make a support for one of the arches that was most deteriorated, and from start to finish he was professional, fair and excellent at making the repairs look like they were an original part of the house. Not only was I pleased with his work and the expeditious time in which he got it done, he then surprised me with a gift--he thought the brick would support itself with the repairs he was able to make and the steel beams would not be necessary--and he saved me OVER $1000 !!!
Description of Work: Rusty Hill followed up on a problem at my son's duplex where the brick archways were literally falling--rather than tear the entire structure down (which some contractors suggested) Rusty thought we could repair the brick and secure it with steel supports--which was supposed to cost around $2500--which was still cheaper than any other estimate I received. He was able to repair/replace the brick around all the arches and made sure the grouting matched the existing (which is a feat since the home is about 100 years old!) and you would have trouble finding the spots he had to repair because it was done so well!
