I'll keep this one briefer that my last one on 2013. Ice storm over Thanksgiving week-end finally took down that tree we've been worried about since we moved in, which once again ripped out our electrical service drop and bent the mast completely over. Called Mike from Henthorn immediately, but he was having Thanksgiving with his family. I felt pretty bad about that and tried to get off the phone quickly so he could get back to family time, but he still wanted to know the details. Because of the design of my setup he needed parts that he did not usually keep on hand, so would have to wait until Monday when their parts house opened. I called several other electricians based on recommendations from a very good friend who has some rent houses, and got one of them who was available on Sunday; after describing the scenario he quoted me $750 up to $1200. Ouch! The missus and I decided we could wait until Monday, so we kept the fireplace going and caught up on some reading. I texted Mike back on Sunday and let him know we still needed him; he texted back that we were for sure on their list for Monday, and that he'd call Monday with an approximate schedule. Well, 9:00 AM Monday morning he calls to say they're on their way, and two trucks pull up less than 5 minutes later! He and his partner got right to work. Luckily the damage wasn't nearly as bad as in 2013; the neutral was fine, the drop cables themselves from the pole were fine, and the meter was ok. In fact, the ends of the cable had simply pulled out of their splices. One of the hardest things was removing the old masts aluminum flashing, because they had installed it so securely in 2013. There was a minor parts issue; Mike had to go back to the parts house and get the correct mast clamp with insulator, but his partner went ahead and installed the new flashing and the new mast while he was gone so little time was lost. They got it hooked back up, plugged the meter back in, and we were golden. Once again, I highly, highly recommend Henthorn Electric LLC. The only reason to EVER use anyone else is if no Henthorn folks are available.

I had installed a ceiling light fixture myself but it didn't come on. I erroneously assumed that the circuit wasn't getting any power, but it took about two minutes for the electrician to figure out that the problem was not with my home wiring, but that I had a bought a lemon of a light fixture from Home Depot. The man took pity on me and did not charge me anything for the service call. Call this guy if you know what's good for you.

Our electrical service drop was hit by a tree during the OKC tornado on 5/31/13. It bent the mast and tore the head off of it; all the weight of the service drop was resting on the three wires going down into the mast. I mistakenly thought that OG+E owned everything from the pole to the meter so I reported it as a downed power line. Then I turned off the house main breaker. Sunday night power came back on in our neighborhood, which resulted in a spectacular shower of sparks in our back yard. OG+E showed up about 10 minutes later and inspected the damage. Now in addition to a bent mast, I had a melted collar where the mast goes into the meter box. I was informed at that time that in fact I own the mast and the meter box (but not the meter) and the wires going into the meter box after the service splices. Wonderful! So the OG+E guys un-crimped and taped off the two legs and let me know that I had to get an electrician to fix the mast. Monday I decided to exercise my Angie's List membership and started looking at electricians. I found and called several that were highly rated; all went to voice mail (understandable; at the time there were still about 94,000 OG+E customers in the OKC metro without power). So I called a contractor buddy of mine who had done some work for us in the past and asked for a recommendation. He said he was working with Joe Henthorn and his crew on a job in Norman, and he highly recommended them. So I called Joe right away. He picked up the phone himself, and said that he was out of town but gave me the number of one of his other guys, Jeff. So I called Jeff around noon, and he was very responsive; said someone would be out later that day! That was more than I could have hoped, considering the extensive damage in the metro area over the last week or so. We communicated via text a few more times, and I said I could be home to meet him within 15-20 minutes. About an hour and a half later I got a call from one of their other guys named Mike; said he had already been out to look over the damage and was on his way to get some parts! I double-checked with Jeff to make sure Mike was really one of theirs and he was. I wasn't able to leave work right away but Mike said that's cool; he and his partner would go ahead and get started. I would say long story short but it is too late for that at this point; anyway, they got the new mast installed, new wires, new meter box, and good to go. Then he gave me some bad news; what I had thought was merely a suspension cable for the service drop was actually the neutral, and 3 of the 5 strands of the cable were severed in a few places. And the "hot legs" that carry the current had some insulation damage. Also the meter was partially melted. He said he could go ahead and hook it all up and it would probably work but felt for safety reasons it would be best to get OG+E back out to look over the neutral and the damaged insulation on the hots and make the final determination. One of the dangers could be some 110 outlets/appliances getting 220; not good. Or the insulation could wear through in a few months and short to the neutral. So while they finished up, I called OG+E again and reported a line down again (that's the only way I know to talk to a person and thus enter the details into the trouble ticket). I was absolutely please with Henthorn's work, and if I could figure out how to add photos as suggested in the Angies List Dos and Don'ts, I would, showing before and after. As I write this on Tuesday, about 24 hours later, OG+E has just left. They cut off the bad section of the neutral and the damaged hot, spliced in some new cable, put in a new unmelted meter, and got me all hooked up. I must say this has been a long 70 hours, but considering how many people lost their homes not to mention their lives over the last week or so I cannot complain about anything.
Description of Work: Installed new masthead, service wiring, and meter box which were damaged in 5/31/13 tornado.
