Deck Masters LLC

I left a message Friday and John called me back fairly quickly. I told him we wanted to add a deck onto our existing concrete patio and asked if he could give us an estimate. We agreed on a time of 1:00pm Saturday afternoon. At 1:08 he called me and said he was getting pulled over for speeding and he would be late. It's now 5:06pm and he hasn't responded to my calls or text. Not sure what happened but I'd guess he got arrested otherwise he would have been by to give the estimate.

He did a good job.

I contacted Mr. Hyatt to see if he refurbished decks. He was very arrogant and rude and said he only refurbishes his own deck. I told him I was not in the market for a brand new deck and that this deck needed to weatherized and then I wanted a coating applied over it. He then said he would look at it but that I would have to pay him 25.00 for him to look at it so I said I would call around to see if I could find someone to look at it and most likley do the work I need. He then started laughing and said "see you later babe". I would never hire this person. He obviously has very little respect for the buying power of women.

The thing that was disappointing was that the plan was a couple of photographs of our back pool area that were sort of faxed to us, but it had very poor quality and difficult to read. It was less than satisfactory. Maybe I should have hired a landscape architect because they were just kind of nonprofessional, but they were hardworkers and knew something about treescaping and water drainage.

Deck Masters is a good name for this company and John Hyatt, the owner, in particular. They did a very professional job. I could tell throughout the construction process that they took pride in the details of the project. The methods they used in the construction were well thought out and their attention to detail that would made their finished product not only beautiful but the end product would be one that last for decades. John and his crew were respectful of my property and left the worksite clean when the project was completed. I also appreciated the advice that was given as to the maintenance of the deck once it was completed.

He gave me a very fair price, a detailed drawing of what could be done and was willing to make modifications to meet my needs. John also gave me contact information for past jobs he has done. The pictures on his website show how beautiful his work is. His crew showed up early every day, worked through Oklahoma spring weather changes daily and remained pleasant and dedicated to completing quality work . John works with his crew to supervise all details which I very much appreciate. John stands behind his promise, he and his crew far surpassed my expectation. John does not miss a single detail and goes above and beyond to deliver a masterpiece that will last for years. I had a question one day, and called and left a voice mail to say I would talk to him next day. My doorbell rang 15 minutes later, which was not expected. We had no confrontation, we talked and all my questions were answered. He took the time and explained everything that was done and the next steps in the process to complete the deck in detail. I am so impressed with John Hyatt and his company Deck Masters. It is so wonderful to have my expectations for quality work and beauty on the actual deck exceeded. I now have a perfect deck! Everyone that has seen it is so impressed. It is furniture quality wood and every detail John provides in his work.I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting a deck that will last years and that will be a source of pride to any home..

John Hyatt did the work and he did a great job. He had built a deck for us before and he is a master deck builder. The overall experience was excellent. He is a big name in our area.

It was a nightmare. I fired them. The owner of the company, John Hyatt, is very difficult to deal with. He didn’t give me an estimate for a deck. I had the plans for the deck. It was an architect’s plan that was two-scale. He kept telling me that he had to lay it out to really see how much wood he would be need and therefore how much it would cost. I told him my budget, which was on the higher side at $12000. He said that it might be okay. I was getting some stone work done at the same time. I told him that he could not start the work until the stone work was finished. He kept bugging me about it. One day, he came out and told me that he would tear down the old deck and lay down the new deck. He told him that the stone mason was very slow and I didn’t want him to distract him at all. That day he came out for about six hours for a demo, which would have only taken about an hour. He continuously bugged the stonemason. The latter got nothing done that day. When I came home from an errand, he had laid out the deck and I had six people working in the yard. I hadn’t asked him to do the job; I had asked him to do the demo. He kept asking me if he had the job. Then, I asked him for an estimate and he told me that he would get back to me. I had agreed to pay him $400 for the demo. So, I paid him $400. I asked him to leave because he was a huge distraction. I sent him the revised plans that had the exact proportions. He sent me an e-mail stating that the job would cost me between $28000 and $32000. He had wasted my time for about two months. He likes to talk and he believes he is an on exotic hardwoods. It turns out that when I really had someone come out, who was an expert, the finish he was going to put on the wood would have ruined it. I have no confidence in him and in anybody using him. It appeared afterwards that he had lost four different jobs. I can understand why. He is delusional. He was very responsive, though; he kept coming over. He overstayed. I will not use him again in the future.

It fell flat and I will never call him nor recommend him to anyone I know.

I can't say enough good things about Mr. Hyatt's work. We were very pleased with the quality, attention to detail, and recommendations of Deckmasters. He really does nice work. He recommended an imported decking material that comes from Brazil. We originally planned on using composite decking, but John really discouraged us from doing so, pointing out problems with the product and class action suits against some of the manufacturers. I checked this out on line and he was right. We spent more on the deck that what we had originally planned, but I feel it was probably less expensive in the long run than using an inferior product. Our deck ended up being much nicer than we had envisioned and a lot of that was due to John's recommendations plus his workmanship. I highly recommend Deckmasters!

The project took 30 days total, from the we signed the contract to the last day. This was slightly longer than I had anticipated but they were hampered by several days of Oklahoma springtime rains. In addition, the dedication and craftmanship that John and his crew put into the deck was worth far more than being done a few days earlier. John put a lot of small details into the project which has everyone who sees the deck remarking about what a great job they did.

John worked with me on the design and material choice. He really listened to what I had to say. The end result is spectacular and definitely increased my ''curb appeal''!! I get constant compliments from my neighbors and passersby.

Deck Masters did a great job. I was very pleased with the work I felt they were very professional.

Deck Masters didn't necessarily listen to exactly what I wanted. The job took less that 4 days. The workers did a good job cleaning up after themselves.
