Requested quote from owner (Ed) over the phone, but he needed to personally look at the work before he would provide a quote. I had to pick him up at his shop, but he was only 3 miles from site. After showing him all that was needed to be done, he provided a written quote. His hourly rate was a little higher than other welders I had contacted, but he was close by and had 40 years experience. After company approval, we scheduled a date. We could not have the work done until after 3 pm due to plant operations, but Ed was flexible and had no problem with the time. He was punctual and completed the work in almost exactly the time frame he quoted. He also welded on both sides of the backstop joints, versus the original manufacturer's welds on just one side of the joint. They were not as "clean" as they could have been, but given the working conditions and time constraints, they were fine and will probably enable the backstop plates to handle more stress. Ed also explained what had caused the welds to break and suggested enhancements he could make, if we wanted to at a later date.
