A-Better Chimney

It went awful. The masonry work look like children did it but I let that slide. The receipt had an estimate totaling $1,165 of which $750 was for the new crown and the crown seal both of which have a 10-year warranty that Toby buser wrote that on the receipt and circled it and initialed it. The product brochure has a 10-year warranty. Well the crown seal fell after 2 months it splits apart and peels up towards the sky all cracked apart. He came promptly and put a new one along said he'd never had a problem like that before. Well it happened again this time he wasn't nice about 3 months later he used the GD and f word with me on the phone and said why don't I refund your money and you get someone else out there. I said fine but instead he came and chose to do a job that's obviously going to fail again because something's not right. Well it did fell again and it took him forever to come out I thought he was going to try something different but he did the same old thing with the crown seal and his felled again 2 months ago and it's all cracked and putting up towards the sky and he won't even communicate I sent him a picture as I have in the past and a text his text was"do what you have to do". well I wonder what happened to that warranty from this professional guy but he certainly not going to honor it. I had guys from another chimney come out and they used the same product but the problem is he did not put a new crown or rebuild my crown he just put crown seal over the old crown and that's the problem and he charged me $750 to put a new crown on and crown seal so what a rip off a better chimney should be a worse chimney

Toby arrived on time and performed his work in an efficient and thorough manner. He took care not to cause any lint, soil or other debris to scatter in the house. He demonstrated the correct operation of the gas log fireplace and repeated it to make sure I understood how to operate it safely. His clean up was meticulous after the work was completed. I thought his fees were very reasonable.

They found and cleared an old racoon nest then cleaned and vacuumed. The owner, Toby, and Derick, the other guy, were both great. Left everything clean. I would recommend them to anyone.

Excellent, Toby found evidence of trash that previous chimney sweeps had not gotten, for example, old broken beer bottles that were on a shelf behind the flu. They had to have been there since when the house was being built, in the 70s. So, yes, he was very thorough and reasonable in price as well!

Turns out I got an inspection and I only needed a chimney cap. He was honest and efficient.

The job was smooth and professional. Toby is a pleasant guy and an expert at what he does. He cleaned up and left it spotless.

Toby came the day I called. He cleaned the fireplace and chimney and did a 21 point inspection. He found the problem was a cracked chimney crown. He came back the next day and did the repairs. He caulked the cracks and sealed the outside of the chimney. He painted the chimney cap. He is very professional and extremely tidy. He provided before and after photos. I would definitely recommend him and will be calling on him again

Toby happened to be working down the street when I called him. He came over almost immediately. Our dryer had been taking about 3 hours to dry a load. He got up on the roof and noticed the damper had been installed incorrectly. He fixed it in about 5 minutes and lint came spewing out of the vent. Toby is a great professional and seems like an amazing person from the short time he was working on our house. I would hire him again for any vent/chimney needs in the future and would recommend him to anyone.

Absolutely splendid service. Could not have gone any better. Vent cleaning had not been performed in more than 10 years and was terribly impacted. Toby made multiple trips between roof and utility room in order to complete the job. Will ask him to redo every couple of years as needed.

Toby came out very promptly, showed up a bit early for the appointment, diligently identified the problem, fixed the problem, and did so at a very good price. He kept my husband informed throughout the entire process, and was very professional in his approach. We were very grateful to Toby and would recommend him to anyone. In fact, if you are using anyone else to clean and/or repair your chimney, IMHO, you are using the wrong folks. This is service the way it used to be, but rarely is these days. Great job!

Wonderful! Toby was very professional, prompt and courteous! And left the place cleaner than it was when he arrived.

We just moved into a house and wanted to get the fireplace cleaned and inspected prior to use. Toby arrived on time and informed me that it had been converted from wood burning to gas log and did not require cleaning. He also provided silica powder and set up the log grate in the proper place. He educated me on proper use as well. Very appreciative of the honesty and service provided.

Toby and his associate arrived twenty minutes early. Total job took an hour. They took precautions to keep areas clean: laid down covers at fireplace and vacuumed around dryer. My tin dryer hose was smashed in behind the dryer. Toby replaced it with a flexi-hose and repositioned both the dryer and washer for maximum efficiency. They brushed and vacuumed my gas logs and repositioned the ember glow for better aesthetics. Toby also made a suggestion for what filler to use and, in general, taught me about my gas fireplace. When I scheduled the appointment, Toby quoted $112 for the chimney sweep and $90 for the dryer vent cleaning. Upon inspection, Toby saw my chimney was clean and merely charged me $52 for an evaluation instead. It is clear Toby takes great pride in his work. However, the criticism of his associate, while constructive, made me uncomfortable and was probably best done privately. That said, they were both very pleasant.

Exceptional. Not my first time using Toby--but the same result. He was booked pretty heavy, but got me in because I was a repeat customer (customer loyalty), Arrived early, Inspected the chimney--it was perfectly fine. Adjusted the gas pipe in fireplace and sealed the chimney cover to prevent water intrusion. It is not just his professionalism and capability--it is his knowledge. He provides advice and instruction along with each service call. No reason to call anyone else if you have a chimney/fireplace issue.

We have never had better service, he was outstanding. Cleaned after himself. He quoted a price and added things to it for the same price. Extra repairs he included. All around class guy.

Excellent. Toby was very professional and exhibited true abilities and knowledge of his craft. He was also a pleasant and nice person. As well as honest. He examined the chimney and told me that the chimney did not need cleaning because of the gas logs and no soot buildup. And therefore would not charge for a cleaning that was not needed. After doing the inspection he asked if I had noticed the sound of rain dripping inside the chimney and I told him yes. But never could see or feel any water. (Had meant to ask him about it before he brought up the subject but had forgotten.) He explained that he had discovered a space at the flashing that had not been sealed that was allowing the water to leak in and he caulked it with a sealant that would eliminate the problem. So very grateful. Also very grateful when he explained to me that my supposedly ventless gas logs need to be vented. He lit the pilot light to the logs and then showed me that blue flame is clean and does not give off carbon monoxide but the yellow-orange flames visible do. Which was verified by the portable carbon monoxide alarm that he had brought with him. I guess my saving grace had been that I had always left the flue a little open when I had used the logs and never left them on when I went to bed.But flue will be completely open from here on out when chimney in use. So I guess you can add life saver to the list of his many good traits.

Toby did a great job, the vent was almost completely full of lint and he quickly removed the blockage and cleaned everything up! There was a mesh piece on the front that should have been removed during installation so our vent was almost completely blocked up.

Went very well. The chimney was clean but needed to be sealed up top and the fire box was cleaned.
