Had home built and moved in in Oct. of 2005. Within two months, noticed crack in brick on front porch over door. Builder, Daniel Remington, came out to inspect and brought Randall from Power Lift. Randall said the brick just needed repair, and Daniel said he would repair it and if it happened again they would do piers. Mr. Remington sent his crew to do the repair, but the repair was poor quality, inadequate, and incomplete, with improper expansion joint and wrong color grout/mortar, and no clean-up. Mr. Remington was contacted and said he would send his crew to come back and repair it properly but never did. Later, all my extra brick was destroyed when they cleared the lot behind me. Daniel's brother Paul Remington called and said he would come regarding the extra brick and the other repairs, but he never did. Cracking happened again but Mr. Remington did nothing. I contacted Power Lift who came out again and said they would contact Daniel, but I never heard anything from that. This is how the problems started. Upon asking Mr. Remington, it was discovered that the lot had to be built up with approx. 25 dump truck loads of dirt before building the house and no soil compaction was ever done and no soil compaction testing was ever done. This by the builder's admission. Still, nothing was done regarding the foundation. From the one-year builder's warranty list, there were several things that needed to be repaired and those things were handled the same way - inadequate and incomplete repair and clean-up - resulting in battling for the next 5½ years with me hiring an inspector, a structural engineer, and an attorney. I ran out of money and resources to continue the battle and ended up moving out of the home and turning it back to the bank. House has mold in the attic due to inadequate repair of a vent leak (or so I was told) and clean-up of any of the mold. Paul had tried to caulk it but evidently that did not fix it. Paul had said he would come back and clean up the water and mold and the damage it caused in the attic and the ceiling of the storage closet in the garage, but never did, and the mold is now coming through that ceiling. Master tub panel was replaced due to mold caused by a leak under the tub, but was not stained the right color when replaced and they never came back to put the clear-coat on or fix the bannister they dented when removing the moldy panel. Foundation issues escalated and there are now cracks in the floors, ceilings, and walls in almost every single room. There are also drainage issues on the property that Daniel never came back to fix and the electrical box in the yard is now leaning due to sitting in so much water over the years. After moving out of the home, I realized I felt much better health-wise so I guess that mold was causing health problems. These builders claim to be Christians and claim they will come back and take care of things but they never follow through. I also reported all of this to the Better Business Bureau. After the builder's response last November he somehow got the BBB to remove the complaint, so if anyone does a BBB search for Remington Custom Homes they will see that it says "no complaints in the last 36 months", however, here is the link to the complaint if anyone wants to read it: http://98.174.167.152/complaint/view/16028838/c/556c1aMr. Remington cancelled his membership with the Cleveland County Builder's Association stating he was no longer building, but his website Remington Custom Homes looks like he is still building. Do your homework...
