They did a general estimate of the average home size in my area. They provided an estimate via e-mail and it would be an additional $1300. We decided not to go through with the work.

They were thorough and friendly. They answered my questions. They were good. The product that they offered was quite a bit more expensive than what other companies offered. But it was a product that we could not get it ourselves. They used a special type of cellular paper product that was nonflammable and it was specially treated. It doesn’t irritate the skin like fiber glass product.
Description of Work: I used Weatherization Experts Inc for insulation work in one of my rental properties. They pulled out old insulation and installed new one. They also put a tap on an attic fan so that we could open it when needed.

They came out and did a very good job. There were no extra charges to the big deal. They were very thorough. They show you what they are doing. They take thermal imaging. It is a visual representation of heat loss in your house. They have been very professional. So I decided to have them come in and blow insulation in. Regarding their pricing, it is really those things I think you get what you pay for. They were more expensive than other quotes I had, but those quotes were from just people coming in and blow-in the insulation in the air. Whereas, they actually came in and they showed me things, where pockets were left off of the walls. Like an inside wall, there is a space between the walls and in the roof there is a hole. In the attic there is supposed to be a board on top of that or something to keep the cold air from going down there. There were several places in my attic where they were going to have to do a little plywood work and all to seal those off, and that was not included in the estimates that I had from the other companies. All they did was just come in and blow it in. Their company is a little expensive, but again I think they are doing more. They are putting more manpower into what they are doing.

The company's installation employees arrived a few minutes earlier than was scheduled and were at it as scheduled. I could hear them spraying around all the vents from inside of my house. Naturally I can not share how it looks like in the attic because the pitch is so low I can not crawl up into it to testify about it BUT from what I can see from the attic ladder entry, they appear to have blown in the 9 inches of insulation as promised. They have covered any heater venting with a wrap of non flamable insulation wrap. I had shared a concern about how cold our North Walls were and how they radiated with very cold air in the low 20 temperatures. Todd said he couldn't guarantee what the problem was but guessed in his experience that it was simply the lack of insulation allowing cold attic air to circulate down into the walls. HE WAS CORRECT in his experienced knbowledge. Man... were we ever loosing heat and cold air ! My heater now kicks in approx 2/3rds less or more than it did and runs for a much shorter period of time. The walls and the house are very much warmer and the time it takes for the temperature to drop is extremely much longer than how it was prior to their insulation installation. Obviously their repair of air leaks and installation of insulation has made a significant difference in our home. I will have to wait for a couple of billing period to see how the bills have been reduced but I know that it is going to be significant simply because we are using less gas and experiencing less fuel burn time to achieve the desired temperatures.
Description of Work: I was referred to Mr. Cox Weatherization Experts Company because they said his company was a VERY GOOD and Reputable company. I called Todd and he gave me a ballpark estimate over the telephone which came VERY close to the total billling at time of completion. My bill was a hair higher because there were a couple of items this older house needed that I did not know to make known over the telephone. Then Todd Cox and another gentleman came out and gave a thermal imaging reading and show me the areas where we were loosing significant energy. ( My entire attic. ha ha ) I had only about an inch of old outdated insulation. Todd retuned an e-mail with a PDF attached which gave a very detailed bid and job description of the work to be done. That was a modern and convenient way of settling a contract. We set a date for the job to be done and it was only a matter of a couple of days and Todd's company came right out accordingly. Our house is an older house from the late 60's with an extremely low pitch in our roof. Weatherization Expert employees arrived on the day that was scheduled. Vent Tubing needed in a bathroom fan exhaust unit, Light Can Covers for older style overhead lights that were not IC approved, Soffit Blocking, Partial attic seal in areas where air was leaking. Cellulose Insulation at an estimated 9 inches of coverage was their decision of my needs.

Re-insulating our attic was overdue. After checking Angie's List, we called Weatherization Experts. Miles & Todd came out to give us an estimate. I walked the house with Todd while he took thermal images. Miles went through the entire attic & took photos. Where we noticed "cold spots" matched up with the thermal images. They provided an estimate via email (we qualified for all 3 discounts) & we set a date for the job. The crew arrived on time & worked until the job was completed. They were very nice, professional & hard working. I also was impressed with the truck, equipment & safety apparel. Clearly, Todd & Miles provide their crew with everything they need to to the job safely & without interruption (missing parts or tools). The job consisted of blowing the insulation, vent tubing, soffit blocking, installing thermal barriers, etc. We were provided with after photos too. We have already noticed a big improvement in the "cold spot" locations. I anticipate more efficient heat & air bills. I am very glad we made this decision.

It went great. We've been living in our house for over 30 years and finally decided that we need to address to insulation in the attic. I consulted Angie's list and contacted a couple of companies. Both seemed fine, but Weatherization Experts seemed more suited to us even though their estimate was a bit higher. One of the steps involved cutting an access hole to the attic of a room we had added to the house and they seemed more sure of their ability to do that safely. We scheduled the work, their workers came out and completed the job efficiently and professionally. They provided us with pictures before they did the work and after they completed it. This is a nice touch. It has made a real difference in the upstairs rooms temperature. I wish we had done this years ago.

IND OR TOLD TO BE BLINDTHIS HOME WAS PURCHASED A LITTLE LESS THAN ONE EAR EARLIER. NO ONE COULD UNDERSTAND WHY WE COULD NOT KEEP IT COOL IN THE SUMMER AND WARM IN THE WINTER. THEY DISCOVERED THAT ALMOST EVERY DUCT IN THE ATTIC WAS COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED OR VERY CLOSE TO BEING DISCONNECTED. ALL OF THE AIR FROM OUR AC AND HEATER WAS BEING BLOWN INTO THE ATTIC. THERE WAS EXTREMELY INADEQUATE INSULATION IN THE ATTIC WHICH WAS ALLOWING ALL OF OUR HOT AND COLD AIR TO ESCAPE. ONCE THE JOB WAS PERFORMED, WE ACTUALLY HAD TO TURN THE AIR CONDITIONER TO A HIGHER TEMPERATURE AS THE HOUSE WAS TOO COLD. SO MUCH FOR HIRING AN INSPECTOR TO LOOK AT YOUR HOME BEFORE YOU PURCHASE IT. OUR INSPECTPR WAS EITHER BLIND OR TOLD TO BE BLIND AS THIS WAS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM WE FOUND AFTER WE MADE THE PURCHASE. WE APPRECIATE HONEST COMPANIES. THEY WERE THERE WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD BE, FINISHED WHEN THEY TOLD US THEY WOULD BE FINISHED, AND THE RESULTS WERE OUTSTANDING. EXCELLENT HONEST HARDWORKING COMPANY. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.
Description of Work: LEVEL 1 DUCT REPAIR: Seal all start collars, registers, splices, Y's, and elbows with MASTIC. NOTE: This includes straightening and shortening if necessary to optimize air flow. Currently there are multiple visible areas of air leakage which are representative of additional hidden joints that are leaking as well which will be systematically sought out and corrected. Facts to consider: Leaky ductwork is considered in most cases to be the highest energy loss in the structure, EXAMPLE: a 25% duct leakage (average home tested) could logically cause a 50 to 70% in-efficiency because of the pressure differentials drawing in unconditioned air simultaneous to the unit working to create conditioned air. Guarantees: **Fire retardant & Insect repellant **99.7% effective against mold and mildew **One-time application – NO SETTLING **100 % BORATE FORMULA Stabilized Cellulose **NO FIBERGLASS PRODUCTS USED, EVER! "Xcell" 100% BORATE FORMULA STABILIZED CELLULOSE is a Class 1, "Class A" Insulation product. Borate compounds are infused into the cellulose fiber to provide the highest fire-rating possible. These compounds provide multiple benefits for your family, and meets or exceeds all local and national building codes as well as federal test requirements. When it comes to fire safety, Stabilized Cellulose is the safest insulation material you can use. "Xcell" 100% BORATE FORMULA STABILIZED CELLULOSE produces an environment which is an un-suitable habitat for many insects; including roaches & termites. Borate compounds are also effective rodent deterrents, and also acts as a fungicide helping to control mold and mildew. "Xcell" 100% BORATE STABILIZED CELLULOSE Insulation Material Can Provide 30%+ REDUCTION in HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING COSTS, in Most Circumstances, Over Conventional Methods. Fiberglass losses up to 50% of its R-value in temperatures below 30F. and above 100F whereas STABILIZED CELLULOSE actually improves as temperatures drop with only a ever-so-slight drop as temperatures elevate. NOTE: BASED UPON THE MULTITUDE OF "THERMAL DISCONNECTS" DISCOVERED AND THE POOR CONDITION OF THE HVAC DUCTWORK, WE ANTICIPATE A REDUCTION IN YOUR UTILITY COST IN THE 40 TO 50% RANGE. WE CANNOT GUARANTY THESE RESULTS ONLY OFFER OUR PROFESSIONAL OPINION BASED UPON OUR EXPERIENCE AND FEEDBACK OF SIMILAR RESULTS OF PAST CLIENTS. THANK YOU- for your preference of Weatherization Experts to invest in one of your most valuable assets, the comfort and maintenance of your home! Was contacted via email after purchasing the Big Deal and informed my house did not qualify. Representative was very professional and explained how to go about getting a refund. He offered to come and perform an estimate and I took him up on the offer.

They offered to come out and do a no cost estimate and did a very professional job complete with pictures and thermal imaging of the attic. This was the hardest working crew I have experienced. They were tidy, prompt and thorough. While the amount we spent was high our savings have been worth it. We examined our cooling costs based on degree-days and BTUs used - that seemed more reasonable than actual dollars because we had an unusually (we hope!) hot summer. Overall, cooling degree days were 32% greater than the previous year but our BTUs only increased 7.6%! Further, rooms that were uncomfortable are now comfortable. We couldn't be more pleased and would recommend this company to anyone interested in a quality job.
Description of Work: Additional insulation was added to our attic. However, that was not all. All ductwork was examined and sealed. Insulation around added equipment was improved.

I purchased an offer from "The Weatherization Experts" (TWE) on February 28th. When I initially attempted to contact , I was only able to reach voicemail and send email. None of these attempted contact methods were successful. No calls returned, no emails responded to. Eventually (around the beginning of May) a call was returned from one of the owners. After a brief conversation, we scheduled an appointment. The inspection itself was excellent. They were timely, professional, and thorough. However, I never received the estimate that was supposed to come after the inspection. I emailed the company, requesting the estimate and again received no response. Overall, this was disappointing.
Description of Work: The Weatherization Experts came out to do an Air Duct Inspection. While they were here, they noted several things that were also adding to our inefficiency.

I initially left a voicemail after purchasing the deal in March, but did not hear back. We were at the beginning of a remodel at that time, so this purchase fell off my radar until July. While it was odd not to receive a return call, since I'd paid $119 and really wanted this service for our home (which was built in 1946), I called again and was able to schedule pretty quickly. When Todd and Miles (brothers-in-law) showed up at my home, they showed me how their equipment worked and then Todd continued to explain things while Miles inspected the house and took a bunch of pictures (including pics of our dogs, who are really really cute). Todd's explanation consisted of A LOT of scientific information regarding where houses are typically the least efficient and how they (Weatherization Experts) go about correcting these issues compared to other companies. While I was being educated by Todd, Miles searched for areas in our home that were inefficient and snapped photos of each issue. When he was done, they reviewed the images with me and explained how they address each issue. I then requested that they look at a few places that were of particular concern to me and give me their perspective. They did so and I was impressed with their recommendations. That same day, I received a proposal stating what it would cost to have them correct all of the issues they found in our home. I was pleasantly surprised by the bottom line, however, it was more than we had/wanted to spend at that time. I do believe that all of their recommendations would be beneficial and we anticipate having the work done, but thus far, the work has ranked lower than other items on our wish list. While what I got was not what I was expecting, it was beneficial. For example, I thought that they would look at our appliances and outlets to let us know how efficient/inefficient they are. These things were not even mentioned. The main reason I rated this service lower on price and quality is that the exact same deal was offered a few months later for a lower price. I am not aware of anything I received that wasn't included in the other deal and my audit didn't get scheduled until after the newer deal was available. For the time spent to bid on a future job (which is ultimately what they are doing), either DEAL price may seem slightly high. While it's more about the principle of the matter, it would bother me less if the amount of the audit were credited if/when work was completed. (Please note: I have no idea how their time is compensated if you request they weatherize your home without purchasing an energy audit.) Bottom line, while I think they could improve their communication about what exactly you are purchasing with the audit, when we ready to have the work completed, odds are Weatherization Experts will be our choice!

After purchasing the Big Deal they made an appointment and came to the house. They took pictures and explained where the heating and cooling leaks were in my home. They then emailed an estimate for the work.
Description of Work: I had purchased a Big Deal on Angie's List to get insulation at a discounted price. The came to my home to do an estimate and were very professional but the overall quote was $2000 above the purchase of the Big Deal. They also stated that any renovations to the home needed to be done before they sealed the attic so I did not choose to move foward with the work.

Description of Work: Purchased the energy audit. They came quick and were very nice and easy to work with. Honestly, their prices were just too high for what we could afford but they put together a very nice recommendation document including pictures and solutions. We live in an older house that did not seem to be maintaining its heating and cooling very well. I contacted the professionals at Weatherization Experts to see what could be done affordably to maximize my energy efficiency. I was able to get a consultation in a reasonable amount of time and Todd and Miles showed up on time and as expected. They went through our home with some very fancy imaging equipment and detailed our trouble areas. We found that our windows and doors were actually much more efficient than we expected and that overall, (with the exception of some older windows that should be replaced), our home was in pretty decent shape. We were pleasantly surprised about this assessment as Weatherization Experts could have chosen to take advantage of our ignorance and given me a completely different assessment-and charged for work that was not needed. Instead, they chose to upgrade and add to what was already in the attic. Our house stayed much cooler in the hot August sun and we noticed a cost savings on our electric bill as well! We were very pleased with the results obtained by Weatherization Experts, feel that Todd and Miles are stand up guys and would highly recommend anyone in need of their services contact them for at least a consultation. Once you meet them, you will know they are the right path to choose! We will surely be using them for any and all needs that we have in the future!

Luckily, Angie's List is willing to refund my $149. Lesson learned: the value of shopping around is "Priceless". If you don't know the approximate cost of a job you need done, then you are the natural prey of guys like these.
Description of Work: I bought a "Today's Big Deal" from Angie's List for $500 worth of attic insulation for $149, provided by Weatherization Experts Inc. They came out and inspected my attic, then gave me an estimate of almost $4000. I have a 2800 sq ft house with easy attic access and it's already insulated. I just wanted to add some more blown-in insulation. $4000 is more than double what it should cost. I don't want a gold-plated Cadillac, I just wanted some blown-in insulation. These guys are way overpriced.

They showed me a video of some retired military guy that paid them $5000 for insulation. Later felt like that was just so I wouldn't be so shocked with a bid of $1500. Don't want to be harsh but they should stick to installation bids and not try to project themselves as something they aren't--energy auditors. Other companies spend a lot of time and money training their staff to do energy audits and this company does not. Just know how to take pictures in attics and how to use an infra-red camera that shows temperature variations. Nothing about energy loss thru windows and doors which can be quite significant!
Description of Work: Great guys but they did not do a true energy audit. Basically just an insulation company. And my father-in-law had same job done by another company in Ardmore for HALF what they bid me. They also wanted to wrap fireplace flue with insulation but after speaking with 4 other insulation companies found out none of them have even heard of or ever wrapped a flue. May be a good company for insulation but my goal is to lower my energy bill which includes much more than insulation.

Response from Weatherization Experts Inc
Member, A “true energy audit” may be a matter of perspective. Sometimes I wish we were “just an insulation company”, it would be easier, simpler, and less strain. However, we are not, due to our commitment to our company’s vision “..being committed to setting the standard for this industry and achieving the highest return on Investment for our valued customers” We must provide the additional services in order to gain those energy savings. It is by far the most difficult part of what we do, Insulation is easy by comparison. When you mentioned windows, I showed you the video we recently had done with the help of a Retired Air Force Colonel who had served our country for over 30 years. He recently had been given a window replacement quote of $10K (for two rooms). Our services, almost $5k, were carried out over the course of three days and included extensive duct-sealing, weatherization services, and insulation. His home was 2 story and close to 4000 sq. ft. His testimony, which is on our website, I felt would be of benefit to you when I understood your goal was to achieve the best energy saving results for the least cost. It was purely for your benefit and not intended to prepare you for our proposal. That kind of manipulation is not in my nature. What drives me is the search for truth, and assisting with making an informed decision. My vision as to the goal of a true energy audit is to identify the contributors to high energy bills, place them in a logical order. All of our suggestions follow a prescriptive list, the order of which is changed sequentially based upon the anticipated energy savings balanced against its cost, essentially a “Value Add” determination where “Return on Investment” is the key. “Home Improvement” items such as window replacement & HVAC unit for upgrading purposes simply don’t deliver a good return on investment. We did provide you with Thermal Images, photos and a proposal noting some major thermal disconnects within your home. For example; the open wall chamber in the hallway and the fireplace are both allowing cold air to infiltrate your home. How we address these is unique as you have found out by doing some investigative work yourself in asking 4 other insulation companies. Without comparing these items with like material and workmanship, I’m not surprised your father-in-law had insulation work done for half, and you could not find anyone willing to address these important issues. We have a vast compilation of historic data supporting our approach to energy savings are proud of the fact that no one in our service area has ever come remotely come close to achieving the energy savings we have provided our customers. This includes any HVAC contractor, Insulation company, window company, or weatherization company. As to my qualifications as an Energy Auditor, my background includes 35 years working in the construction industry, 22 years as a professional firefighter/ EMT / Hazardous Materials Technician. Small Business Owner for 30 years. I achieved my certification as a “H.E.R.S.” Rater for the EPA’s “Energy Star Program” from Kansas Building Science Institute in 2003 graduating #1 in my class 98% GPA. I have logged over 1200 hours on my current Thermal Imaging Camera, I am very experienced in translation of what I see and the interpretation thereof. We have achieved some extremely good results on new homes as to energy use. I consulted, designed, and weatherized a new “entry level” tract home in Shawnee with Geothermal & total electric. Assisted the builder of this home receive $6000.00 in tax credits, with an out of pocket of only $4500.00 additional cost for energy upgrades. The end user (our customer) is delighted with their $70.00 average utility bill for their 1680 sq. ft. home. On the other end of the scale we have a custom 8600 sq. ft. home in OKC with pool and hot tub averaging around $400.00. We are about lasting results that matter and add value. Both of these homes, and all the others in between, are encapsulated with the best material and workmanship available. They also have a “Lifetime Warranty” for retaining their “Class 1 / Class A Fire-Rating”, and resistance to Insects, Rodents and Mold. In hind-sight, I should have clarified in our initial interview your expectations for justification of a future window purchase, which I would not have endorsed. Angie’s List will refund your purchase price for the audit since you are not satisfied. We thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you; I wish we could have helped.
