Back in May, I submitted a list of fixes and plantings I wanted for my front and back yard, via Marcum's website. I got a call from someone called Monty, who then came to walk over the yards with me and see what I was talking about. Right away, he was oddly unhelpful. We were in front of the house, where I wanted to put in pebbles under a front hedge and a separator between the pebbles and the sidewalk. He said OK, they could do that. I said, but wait, what are my choices of pebbles and separators? He said, there's only one kind of each, and that's what I'd get. I thought of the nurseries I've seen with bins of different kinds of pebbles, and just wondered what was happening. The same kind of unenthusiasm applied everywhere else. Trying to figure out what kind of tree would fit in a certain space: apparently, no kind of tree. Some things he wrote down: OK, plant azaleas. But he didn't ask what colors I'd like. Etc. Etc. (It was a long list.) So, finally he left, saying he'd be sending a quote. After a long wait, with the quote never turning up, I called Marcum to say, what gives? I got a pleasant young woman who didn't seem at all concerned about the long delay and the lack of contact. She said she'd tell Monty to call. It's been a week. Monty hasn't called. Presumably they just didn't want to do the job? Too many little fiddling things, they wouldn't make enough money? So, then, why couldn't they just say, sorry, we don't take jobs like this, you could try these other people? Their website is full of how they're a family business and they're dedicated to service. Not so much, based on my experience. I'd told the woman who answered the phone at Marcum's that if I didn't hear from Monty, I'd post a complaint on Angie's List. All right, she said placidly. So, here's the complaint. I'm glad they didn't do the work, since they were obviously not interested in making my yards more attractive and enjoyable, just (I guess) in if they could make a lot of money doing something big but simple.

They were punctual and did a fantastic job. I have used them before and am always very pleased.

All of the plants we used have done very well. They were all healthy plants. Only loss was some ground cover that we did not care for correctly, otherwise, everything was great

They have a terrific selection of trees and the guys they have working out there are excellent. They don't work on commission so there is no hard sell. They are also genuinely knowledgeable and want to help you make the decision that is right for you. I've always found the owners' attitudes a bit offputting, like they don't really want to deal with the public and don't love what they do. But they rarely interact anyway with the clients and they do a great job of hiring and retaining good workers so they must be doing something right!
