Had my roof done a few years ago which was a mess during the work process but now having to have my entire porch cover removed and replaced due to poorly installed flashing and a large area of no roofing felt so now rotten. How can anyone be comfortable with doing such shotty work? Will NEVER recommend this company for anything. They make a huge mess and don’t clean up well either.

We called this company to repair roof damage and a roof leak. Two guys came out rather promptly, but they said they were unable to give us any bid/time estimate, etc. until another guy from the company looked at the house. They told us they would send that guy in the next few days. Over a week later we still had not heard back from them so my husband called, several times. He got more promises they'd send someone out but they never did. He spoke with John each time and asked what was the problem, why the delay. John told him the guy who needed to look at the job was just so busy and that no one else could do it since they would probably have to charge our job by the hour. John said he didn't know how to do that because he had never done a contract by the hour, only bid whole jobs. While still waiting for this 'other guy' to get out and look at the house and see what needed to be done, my husband called again and asked John if he could at least tell us how much their hourly rate was. John said over $100 p/hr - $75 p/h was the supervisor rate, then however many workers on top of that. We didn't say no, and probably would have paid it if they ever got anyone out to do it. But after over a month of waiting, excuses, etc., they finally just stopped returning our calls. Even though their ad says 'no job too small' etc, it was clear they did not want to do this job. I can understand a company may not want to do some work because it is too small, or too hard, or not within their expertise or for any number of reasons. But I feel their professionalism is seriously lacking when they won't show a customer the courtesy of just saying they don't want to do the job rather than stringing them along with excuses and no action. We ended up wasting over a month with these people when we could have been looking for someone else. Once we figured out Standard was not going to help us, we called someone else last week and he came out and completed the whole job in less than the time it took John to return one of our phone calls. The work was great and very reasonably priced - much less than the hourly rate quoted for Standard. I can't speak for their work, but I would not be inclined to contact Standard again, or recommend them, for anything due to the lack of professionalism and poor customer service demonstrated in this interaction.

Service was good, but slow. The initial estimate appointment was relatively quick and I agreed to the work at the time of the estimate. The window had to get special ordered and they told me it would take 1-2 weeks to get it. After approx 3 weeks I had to call Standard Builders to check on the status of the order. The window had been delivered to their warehouse, but the guys didn't realize it was a window, since it was so large and it was sitting in a box, so they originally thought it was a door. Once the guys came out w/the window to do the job, they realized that the new window was approx 1/2 inch too big and they'd have to reorder another window. Apparently there was a mistake/typo when on their end when placing the order w/the glass manufacturer. Once the correct window arrived, the work was done w/no problems. I also requested a few of the vents/caps be sealed up on the roof at the time of the estimate, they said they'd do that for free since it was a small job. The roofers never showed up so I eventually got in touch w/some roofers that were working for Pioneer Construction on a house in the neighborhood and had them do the work instead.

Knowing that we intended to sell the house at some point, and realizing it wasn't going to bring a high price, John suggested selling it "as is" (which we had planned to do). He thought someone would buy it for a rental, and have the skills to do the work him/herself. He asked if we'd gotten an appraisal on the house. I understood that he didn't want us to invest a lot of money for no return. I really appreciated him trying to talk himself out of a job! A couple of days later, I was looking at the condition of the house again, as well as looking for ways to cut costs, if possible. The back part of the house really needs work, and I don't really think it should wait until whenever we get around to selling it.. The other three sides are certainly not new, but they'll pass. After asking a friend about siding only a portion of the house (he said that would be OK), I called John and asked if he'd give me an estimate for having only the back done. He called me back within half an hour with the answer. I'm waiting for one more estimate before getting the job finished, but even if I go with another contractor, I want everyone to know that John is #1 for integrity! I gave them a "B" for punctuality, because he said he'd call a couple of days before to confirm our appointment. He did not, which didn't concern me too much. But after I'd waited 30 minutes, I decided to search for his business. I knew the general location of the address, but wasn't sure of the block. It turns out their business shares a building with another business, and their business name is not on the street. After driving in that area two or three times I found the address on the sign in the front. As I walked to the door, I saw their business name on the window. I went in to talk to him and he was more than happy to accompany me to my house at that time.
Description of Work: I have not yet made a final decision about who to hire, but Standard Builders is definitely in the top 2. The purpose of this search was to find estimates to have the house re-sided.

We first were introduced with John with Standard Builders when we purchased our new home and requested the sellers pay for repairs to the siding. Since then we have postponed the siding replacement and had opted to replace the windows first. Eric came out and measured all of the windows on both floors that were in need of being replaced. He broke it all down by window and floor and offered us some options on the design. Once we decided to go ahead with replacement, Eric once again came out and confirmed his earlier measurements the downstairs windows (we decided to break up the cost) before placing the order. Once the windows arrived, the installation team called to schedule a time to complete the removal and installation with which they were very prompt. The installation took almost all day (but that was expected on my part due to size of some of the windows). The job turned out great and we are very pleased with the quality of work that was performed and have since placed the order to have the second story windows replaced.

Job was done quickly and professionally. These are the same people who did my roof and guttering on my house 4 years ago and they did a wonderful job then as well. They're simply the best. If you need touch-up work done, even months after the repair, they will come out and put it back in shape, usually at no extra charge.

Worker should up on time (or close to it) and took a few hours to remove the old door and frame. He left for a couple of hours to buy the supplies and do lunch. After he returned, he completed the widening and put in the new door and frame. He did have to come back the next day to stain the door but that is because the color he had , I felt was too light, so he had to get some new stain of a different color. After about 2 weeks, the door 'settled ' and wasn't shutting exactly as we thought it should. He came back out and did an adjustment and it now works perfect.
Description of Work: Standard widened our bathroom door so my son's wheelchair would fit into the bathroom. He removed the old door, widened the frame, put in the new door and stained the new door to match (as close as possible) to our wood trim throughout the house.

He was extremely polite, very courteous. Measured our roof along with a proposal for the bathroom. He showed us different options of shingles, gave his recommendations. In the bathroom he gave us options on which layout would benefit us the most, rough estimates on how much items cost to be replaced. I appreciate him very much for breaking everything down and spending quality time with us.

This contractor's assessment of the job and his bid were approximately the same as the one I ultimately chose. If he had underbid the other provider, I would probably have chosen Standard.
Description of Work: Even though I placed the job with another contractor, it was not because of any shortcoming on the part of Standard Builders nor their representative. The representative was very helpful. However, one of the other contractors who bid on this job was personally known by members of my family which was the reason for placing the job with him.

Started well. But brought another contractor in to do job. There was no real carpenter on site. Workers were unhappy because the second contractor did not show up for work and was late with pay. Poor communication between workers and contractors. Left job unfinished. Light covers were left off, plugins were left uncovered and loose in the wall, Doors leaked air and paint that pealed away while fixing door was not repainted. They did not have their own ladders and used ours and ruined one. They did not provide drop clothes and we had to come up with our own and they still got plaster and paint on the carpet. He charged me much more that other bids for the roof on my rent house and I understood that they were using the best material and there was some water resistant materials they were going to use along eves. The roof looked terrible and I did not get what I thought I was getting. Called the contractor about the way the roof looked and he sent two men out and they said some of the shingles were to long and cut them off. I showed him the flashing around the edge and he told me that is because they used cheep flashing. I showed him a few more things and he told me not to worry that the shingles were warranted for 50 years. I ask him where my warranty was and he said ask the contractor. I never received a warranty for my roof or my Hardy Plank siding. I also learned from my insurance provider they had not put the siding on right and we could not get the break for having the cement siding.

This job was completed in August of 2008. At that time any problems we were notified of were resolved. Where this is coming from is very confusing. There is nothing installed incorrectly. I don't have any idea what she was trying to get out of her insurance company. None of these issues were brought to my attention until now. Yes, she did hire our company to install the roof on her rental home shortly thereafter for which she neglected to pay for. The client contacted us on 9/7/11 regarding a leak at that property and we had a crew there within one week to fix it even though we had not been paid. She did eventually pay for that roof on 10/27/11, three years later.

Initially this client's claim was turned down by her insurance company. Our representative then met with her adjuster and he did in fact find damage and honored her claim. She is a little confused with what she received from her insurance company. The total claim was $6,893.12. We put on a lifetime shingle in place of the 3-tab with a 25 yr. warranty at her request. She signed a clearly written, itemized contract on 7/15/11 showing such. Total cost was $6,082.83. This left her $810.29. Insurance paid to repair her ceiling. This was ample for the $636.96 job. However, $500 was her deductible which she is responsible for. She had someone else whom she wanted to do the interior work.
