Very disappointed in their refusal to come to Crescent even though they had been doing so for several years.
Description of Work: Had been their customer for 15+ years in Edmond. Got my parents to use them in Crescent, only 28-30 miles away. We both were on their twice yearly schedule for heat & air maintenance. Last time they were in Crescent the owner had technician tell us they would no longer come to Crescent because it was too far. Yet they go anywhere in the metro and drive farther in stop and go heavy traffic to south OKC, Moore, etc. It is approximately 30 minutes to Crescent with little traffic and almost nonstop driving. Despite me being their long-term customer in Edmond and getting them a customer in Crescent they refused to come to Crescent again. Even though my mother depended on them for many years after my father died in 2005 they refused to come.

I called to have someone come out and look at my AC unit. The fan was running, but the compressor did not seem to be kicking in. They sent Jason out the next day. I explained to him what the problem was, and told him that I knew it was likely a faulty capacitor, but that I needed a professional to look at it and replace it. I showed him which of the two units that I was talking about, and quickly located the bad part. He replaced the part, and then spent awhile trimming up some of the wires attached to it, and fabricating a new mounting bracket. It sure was nice to have a nice friendly professional do the work. He was finished in about 20 minutes tops. Although I spent $89.95 on a service call, I was glad to do it in order to get such a professional job. Now I knew that he had to charge me for the part of course, and in my mind I was wondering how much that could be. Being in the electronic maintenance field, I knew that capacitors were not pricey, but I figured that since it was on a service call, they might try to rip me off and charge something outrageous like $100. I would be forced to pay, but this is the price that you pay for not being able to do it yourself. When he presented the invoice to me however, I was completely blown over. He was charging $172. This was beyond outrageous! Upon researching the part, I found that in the most expensive case I would pay around $30, although I could easily find one on the Internet for under $15 with free shipping! I would have been happy to pay extra for they part, knowing the stockage and overhead involved, but even in the worst case scenario would I have ever thought that it could amount to over $100. I asked what would have happened if I had the part on hand, or if a wire was just loose? They explained that they cost would have just been the service call of $89.95. Since this is the case, there are no other excuses for having such a high mark-up on a part. I talked with Jeff on the phone today about this, but he was insistent that he routinely charges more than that for a capacitor, as does all of his competitors. This statement from Jeff implies that the price was simply an arbitrary charge that they made up, and can charge whatever they want as long as they stay competitive. He also insisted that they are honest. Sorry Jeff, but "honest" to me means that you tell me the truth about your charges, and don't hide them in the cost of parts. Since it's a well known fact that most compressor problems are with a bad capacitor, I will be ordering one online and keeping it on hand for the next time that I call SOMEONE ELSE to service my system. This dishonest company does not deserve repeat customers.

When we switched our heat pump over to cooling it didn't seem be working. I thought the heat pump wasn't reversing, because I thought it was working in the heating mode. We called a trusted neighbor and asked who does their heat and air. They said they used Minter and Sons. We called them to fix our heat pump. They scheduled us for mid-afternoon that day. That afternoon we were informed that the the tech is having trouble with the call ahead of ours and they are short handed and the owners were out of state attending to a funeral of a family member and that we were still on schedule for our service call. The tech arrived after hours that day and told us there is no no extra charge because were on the schedule for their normal hours. Will introduced himself and we went around to troubleshoot the Trane heat pump. After checking the motor start circuit and trying a new capacitor and relay he showed me that it was not the reversing valve, that the compressor motor was not coming on. We discussed the cost of fixing a 19 yr. old heat pump versus replacing it. I asked Will who does their sales. He said he could take care of it. The decision was made to replace the old system with a new higher efficiency air conditioner, evaporator coil, and heater. We were scheduled for the installation within the week. The office called first thing in the morning to tell us they were on their way. They worked through the day until the job was complete and all deficiencies in the old system were resolved. We are very happy with the overall experience and will recommend them to whom ever asks for heat and air.

Jerry was very professional, took time to show me and explain the problem, and I appreciate that very much.
Description of Work: My heater would periodically trip and lockout for a while and then start heating again. . I called Minter & Sons and they made a service call within an hour. Jerry said it could be the control board which was quite expensive so he wanted me to call while it was in the lockout mode so they could be sure. When I called, he immediately came out and thoroughly checked the system out and even climbed on my roof. He determined that it was due to debris from a roofing job that had fallen into the vent pipe. I have used Minter & Sons before and will definitely use them in the future. Had the problem been the control board the estimated cost would have been $600.00. Some companies would have just put one in to see if that would correct the problem.

My husband passed away in 2005, and he had always handled all of that. I had a company that took care of it after he died, but then they went out of business. So I was looking for someone new, and I was in a hurry. I ended up just calling them because I knew I had heard their name around for a while. After they came out, my upstairs unit stopped working. I called them back, and they sent somebody out. They said that it looked like it had a minor leak. They supposably recharged the unit. But within a couple of days, the unit wasn't working again. This went on two or three times. That's when I called another company to come and take a look. Basically, they were not being honest. They had not recharged the unit. I actually believe that the first guy did something to break the unit; whether intentional I don't know. Since then, I have told everyone not to use Minter. I believe that the owner is dishonest. We don't have that many people coming out and being dishonest about things unless it's coming from the top. I ended up having to replace the unit, and the unit wasn't that old. It was only seven or eight years old whenever the first guy came out to service it. I signed a contract with them when the guy came out. They were going to come out twice a year. I have an upstairs unit and a downstairs unit. They were going to service both units. That came with the first pound of Freon or Puron. It was part of that if it needed to be tapped off. I think it was a two-year deal or something like that. That's when the very first guy came out. I really was just calling them out for that one service call. But I went ahead and signed the contract with him while he was here. Technically, I don't know what it would have been. I never used them after all of the problems I had with them; I never had them come back out again. I was very frustrated about the whole thing. They kept lying to me. They said that they were tapping off my Freon, but they weren't. It would last like a couple of days and then the unit would stop working within two or three days. But whenever I had another company came out and take a look at it; when the tapped it off, they really did fill it up. It lasted all summer. I didn't have any more problems. The unit was able to run for the rest of the summer even though it was really hot. They were just dishonest. I have had the unit replaced. I certainly would not use them again for anything. This company is the reason I signed up for Angie's List. I was very upset about the whole deal.
Description of Work: I called out Minter & Sons Heating. They are a heating and air conditioning company. I just needed somebody to come and do the normal spring/fall cleaning and maintenance. I wasn't having any trouble with any of my units.

From the initial estimate, through the informational and installation process, everything went very smooth. We had obtained bids from other contractors, choosing to go with Minter and Sons due to overall cost, plus fact that we had used them for HVAC maintenance for more than 5 years. Work was done correctly, the issue was the price charged. My regular Heat and Air guy was on vacation, so I called this company. The owner came out on a Sunday to check the compressor and determined that the compressor fan motor was failing. He said several times that this was a low RPM motor and thus expensive, Since they did not have this motor in stock, they came out Monday and replaced the motor. The charge for the motor was $525 plus a reasonable labor charge. I paid the invoice at time of service. When my regular Heat and Air guy returned, he called the supply house, and the motor cost $135. Based on the owners comments about this being a low RPM motor, there is no doubt he planned on fleecing me from the neginning.

You called on a Sunday. You stated you called "your" air conditioning contractor and he was unavailable as well as several other contractors before Minter and Sons answered "LIVE"(no automated answering service) and scheduled you for a same day service call (Sunday/after hours) You do not mind complaining about a very fair competitive price but in no way do you have time to compliment timely, AFTER HOURS service. Our price is competitive, comes with a 1 year warrtany and we use only factory parts. Thank you for your response, although I do not feel your report accuratley describes our timely, same day, after hour, professional service. Jason Minter

Josh (very nice and professional) arrived within the 2 hour time frame I was given. He checked everything out and said the unit was in really good shape and could not see the source of my problem. He did not want to charge me to change the motor out if it did not need it. He said the filters I had just replaced last week may have been too thick to allow sufficient air flow. I had purchased some more expensive type filters that are supposed to last 90 days this time, but I also bought a set of the cheap blue filters at the time as well. He switched the filters out and the unit seems to be functioning as it should. I cannot really rate on the quality since I did not have anything fixed or replaced (thank goodness), but Josh seems to be a very qualified technician. The service call price was $89.95, which seems a little high for normal hours of operation, but when you are hot and miserable in 100 degree weather you can't really complain because they came within a few hours of my call. I called other AC repair companies on Angie's List and they said it would be the following day before they could assist me.
Description of Work: My AC was freezing up and the air would not blow through the vents. quality since nothing was fixed or replaced (thank goodness). The service call price was $89.95, which seems a little high, but to have comfort in my home I guess I cannot really complain.

We paid for a job that was not done correctly, according to the company that had to come in and fix this companies shoddy work.
Description of Work: The drain that catches condensation was clogged. They said they blew it out. They had to come back out again, and they charged us again for he same problem. They said they blew the line out again in the late fall. It still was not draining the first time we used it in the spring. We called them. They tried to charge is again. I refused to pay. They still did not fix the problem. We called Edmond heat and air. They pointed out why Minter's work was shoddy and fixed the problem correctly. I called Minter and asked for a refund. He was rude and unprofessional. I have talked to others who have had the same type for work and attitude from this company. We have used Edmond Heat and Air since and were treated fairly and quickly.

This customer’s drain line had a thick dirt like substance in his abnormally long drain line. He was informed just clearing out the drain line would MORE than likely not cure his problem long term. We have a service ticket that the homeowner signed that recommended either rerunning the drain line to DECREASE the length and INCREASE the "downhill slope" or use a chemical solution to break up the thick compact substance. I ask you to please review this customer’s report card on our service. It’s clear he is holding back some truth. It was middle of July w/ 100 degree temps. Same day service - two hour time frame was scheduled - technician at his house on the front half of the scheduled time frame. Minter and Sons warranties all work/workmanship. This customer did not take our initial recommendation.

Have a 5yr old house with 2-ton compressor outside. Self diagnosed that cap was faulted and would likely require replacement. Could hear humming noise but fan motor and compressor were not coming on. Was previously exhibiting a lot of vibration and had my concerns that the unit was not cooling effectively about 1 week before but as it was a holiday no place was open to obtain the necessary part so we really needed someone to come out. Wife cant stand temp over 75 which sucks on a 100+ summer day like it was going to be much of the rest of the week. I took a chance with this company as it was local and had reservations about the previous company I had used to service our AC unit but after failing to get another provider I planned on using on the line after much waiting I decided to give them a shot and recognized the name. Didn't know this company already had some bad reviews on here but deserves at least one more so another customer is not taken by surprise when they get the bill. Overall, I am satisfied with the friendliness of the technician that came out and that he took the time to check a few things rather than just getting a new cap installed which the last repair shop did to me. However, I was a bit taken back about the price for the part and feel I was definately taken advantage of in that area. Required 1-lb of refrigerant and new run capacitor which he didn't have on hand so he had to improvise for today to get things operational until he could check with the local supplier tomorrow. When asked about the price of the capacitor he said that is what they charge for it and its not like he's the guy running the show anyway. I wasn't going to argue even though I had already found prices online for about $20-30. I probably would use them again if it wasn't for the steep markup in materials cost. I would have expected to pay upwards of maybe just over $100.00 but at 600% markup I dont believe I will be using this outfit anytime in the near future. Rate per 1st lb of freon: $50.00 - New dual run capacitor (for fan and compressor) : ~$200.00 - Labor rate: 89.00 + one time add-on of $75.00 of OT being that it was a holiday - Labor Time: 1hr

Customer stated he called multiple companies on a holiday and could get no body to answer... Minter and Sons answers the phones with a live person (no automated 2nd party phone service). We responded in a timely fashion (on a holiday – July 4th), diagnosed the problem, informed the customer what the problem was and what the price would be before the repair was performed (competitive industry standard pricing w/ warranty). Customer gave the OK, and work was completed. In response to not having the part on the truck - there are literally hundreds of capacitors with different ratings that fit different machines (impossible to stock all on a service truck), we temporarily wired TWO different capacitors together that would not damage his machine until we could install the factory component after the holiday. Minter and Sons has a fully stocked truck to handle MOST of any emergency/after hour call (few companies can say that) We do sincerely value your input Member.

I called and received and appointment and service the same day. The employee came on time and was friendly and professional. I was given an option to replace the unit and be installed the next day or do the repair. He informed me there were risks to just repair since other parts were very old also. We opted to repair for now and the repair occurred quickly. We were charged for the parts and labor, but not the charge for the service call since we are on their seasonal maintenance plan.
