Jared Spear was fast to respond to giving quotes and worked with us when we decided to hold off for a year. Once the project was started it was done in a very fast manner. The down side was getting Mr. Spear to come back for warranty work. His material that he put in between the concert deck and coping kept washing away. He refused to fix the problem. After having the pool closed professionally and opened we found that he plumbed our pool pump and filter in backwards. This cased our 4 filter cartridges to blow out. We just want him to fix what he did wrong.

I would not recommend Good Earth Landscaping (Brett Layton) unless you don’t want your warranty honored, you like shoddy work, and you enjoy poor communication and follow-through with your contractor. Brett did not honor his warranty on trees where we paid extra for the warranty. We also contracted Good Earth for a retaining wall; not only did the wall look awful, it’s construction was so poor that it did not function at all during rain (dirt and water washed through freely). Brett would not come fix the issue and we ended up having to hire another contractor to just tear it out and rebuild it correctly. We also previously used Brett for Christmas lights. During removal, the workers left an awful mess with staples littering the yard/driveway/everywhere. On top of that, Brett’s communication was poor and commonly didn’t show up when he said he was going to. Trust me, you do not want to use Good Earth Landscaping.

Because of the heavy rain this season we had to wait 2 months before they were able to come out. I'm not sure how normal this is but when they did come out they had my entire house completed within 2 days. The workers were nice and worked hard. The owner was fairly responsive and you could tell he knew a lot about what he does. Previous home owners had drains installed by another company who did a horrible job (trying to drain uphill) and he helped to correct the problem and was willing to do whatever I wanted until the job was done with my approval. They put my shrubs back after having to remove them for the drains and finished the job with mulch and cleaned everything after they were done. Very satisfied.

I basically told Brett, the owner, the plants I wanted & he came up with a plan for all the rest. We couldn't agree on some aspects of his design such as the 5 moss boulders he wanted to use. My house has a stone facade and last thing I wanted were more rocks. After discussing other concerns, he said for me to "Trust me, go inside, don't look and you can see it when we're finished". The final result was a redundancy in the type of plants used (Hostas, Nandinas, Euonymous) and three of the azaleas he planted in heavy shade are the type that require more sun, not heavy shade. He planted a dogwood tree too close to the house and the Endless Summer Hydrangea was planted in a location that received hot noon sun. (apparently he did not bother to read labels). While he later relocated the hydrangea at my request, he was in a hurry and did not perform a professional job (the hole was too shallow). The Japanese maple he planted is not filling out on its right side. I attribute this to the huge moss boulder he placed about a foot and a half from the trunk and I suspect the tree is not getting enough water there. I've left Brett several messages for him to come and retrieve the boulder or at least move it. But he's done nothing about it. .

I am not very happy with the maintenance part of their business, but my overall experience with them has been excellent.

Our landscaping / hardscaping projects have always been performed above my expectations!!!

The estimate was completed quickly with exactly the provisions we were looking for included in the quote. We had another financial obligation come up when we were getting ready to get started on this project but do plan to contact this company and complete this project next summer.

The work was good, but I would not hire Good Earth again mainly because the trees were planted in the cold and we lost many to a hard freeze. The owner did not seem enthused about replanting the trees and it took many weeks for him to do it.
