Very poor experience. I will in the future refuse to allow the company to be subcontracted ANY installation work on appliances at my house. I consider the ongoing electrical shock and fire hazards as as a danger to my family and the unwillingness to address the issue in any way, shape or form (both by Sears and the contractor) as a clear sign of unprofessional-ism if not outright negligence.
Description of Work: Sears was paid to install a Kenmore dishwasher. This work was performed through Custom Installations. The item was installed but the installer failed to properly insulate the power cables which laid on the concrete slab versus through the power supply junction box (four inches above the slab) and abutted to the front splash guard until the power cabling was exposed to some water entering under a front splash guard - likely from mopping or a spill. This caused it to short and nearly catch fire. When I investigated I was shocked by the dishwasher when a screw driver I was holding touched the wet area under the dishwasher. Sears refuses to send out a repair tech and calls I've made regarding the issue to Custom Installers has netted zero returned calls. I had to hire a professional electrician at $135 to re-preform the installation. He found in addition to the exposed hot power connectors with no plastic insulation caps there were missing parts required to safely install the washer. In fact, he would have had to charge me $20 to order the part needed for safe installation of power that comes with EVERY dishwasher - a part which Custom Installation failed to install. Sears is adamant I was supposed to hire an electrician to verify this contractors work at the time it was originally installed which to me implies even Sears doesn't trust them (although, then why does Sears let them do work?). It sounds like you might as well just hire the electrician to do the installation you need to hire to verify the work Sears outsourced. This company could endanger your family like they did mine. I would recommend you do not hire them for any work. I did send the photo of the mess to an electrician who is out of state who was aghast at the shoddy work. The electrician who did the CORRECT install wrote copious notes on everything wrong with the install which I have forwarded to Sears management including the missing components. The electrician also implied the electrical shorting may have damaged the circuit boards in the dishwasher so I will likely need to purchase a replacement dishwasher. All I was asking of them was to send someone out to do the 15 minutes of work I already paid them for which they failed to do in the first place yet they refused to even call me back much less see the issue as relevant. In fairness it might have been just one of their employees who was performing shoddy work but how many customers have unsafe wiring in their house because of it? And why does no one feel the need to at least visually verify the work now that at least one customer has been very negatively impacted by it?

Contractor replaced garbage disposal as requested. However, after he left I discovered he had wound the hose from the sink sprayer around the new disposal. As a result, the sprayer cannot not be pulled out for use. In addition, when contractor replaced disposal he was unprepared to collect payment. I was told he did not usually collect payment and as a result he was unable to accept my credit card. I discovered after he left that he had not left a receipt for my check payment. I have called repeatedly over the last 2 months requesting contractor return and fix sprayer hose. Finally, I received a return call and contractor wanted to come over right then to fix problem. Unfortunately, I was not home but tried to arrange a time later in the afternoon. Contractor said he could not commit to later that day. I requested a time for the next day when I would be home. Contractor said he could not schedule right that minute but would call back later that day. It has been over a month and there has been no phone call. In desperation, I reported Custom Installations, Inc. to the Better Business Bureau. After a month, the BBB informed me the company did not respond despite multiple attempts on their part and my case is closed.
Description of Work: Replace garbage disposal.

The installers did a good and thorough job. The installation of the dishwasher at our son's house was on time and went well. There were a number of problems, however, that caused the installation process t,at our house to extend for seven weeks. When the installers first came, they only installed the double oven. Sears had sent the wrong color of dishwasher and Custom Installations could not cut the solid surface countertop to install the cooktop. The people in their office had told me that the installers would be able to provide this service but had apparently forgotten that the person that had done this for the company was no longer employed there. Fortunately, we were able to get some people who were installing a solid surface countertop in our son's home to come over and cut the hole. While this delayed installation of the countertop, we saved over $100 on the cost of this service. Then Custom Installations came back and installed the countertop. There was no additional charge. When the dishwasher was next delivered, after having been back-ordered by Sears, the installer noticed that it had a dent in it. Since he had already removed our old dishwasher, he put in the dented one and Sears agreed to order another one. We appreciated his willingness to do this. Finally, the correct dishwasher came in and the installer removed the dented one and installed the new one. Each of the installers was very nice and helpful. We are really glad, however, that the process is over.
Description of Work: They installed a double oven, cooktop and dishwasher in our house and a dishwasher at my son's house.

Our installer, Jimmy Turner, was professional, fast, efficient, and clean. He installed the air conditioning window unit without damaging the interior wall, the preexisting wood frame around the interior wall opening, or the bricks on the outside wall. There was no mess to clean up after his installation, inside or outside the wall of the house. I would recommend Mr. Turner to anyone needing this type of job done correctly and professionally.
Description of Work: We called Custom Installations, Inc., to have a window unit air conditioner installed in a preexisting opening in an outside wall.
