Mr. Whitney and his assistant were very nice and professional. I felt confident he knew what he was doing and I will definitely rely on Whitney and sons for any future electrical repairs. He was on time and he was polite. He gave us peace of mind regarding our home safety.
Description of Work: Replaced electrical box and applied surge protector I provided. He also labled the brakers so I would know what each was connected to.

Arrived behind schedule a little but he did call to let us know. Showed them the placement of the new outlets and they went to work right away. I own an older home with plaster walls so cutting out the pockets for the new outlets takes a little care to make sure you don't crack or chip away more plaster so they are smooth and pleasing in appearance. He did warn us about this problem before they started and told us there were no guarantees. Still they were a little rough on the walls (one crack to repair and a couple of outlets have rough edges showing outside the covers). They worked hard to run some of the wiring as you can imagine in a house that's 73 years old. Overall good job but disappointed we have to now do some repairs on the walls.
Description of Work: They came to house to run additional electrical outlets.

Response from Whitney and Sons Electric Co
Yes we were running late, my helpers car didn't want to start with the very cold temps that day. I called to let them know we were running late. When I gave the estimate I was told the walls had all been removed and drywall had been installed. 73 year old plaster is mostly sand and a little concrete, smoothed over rough 2" X 1/4" long boards nailed from stud to stud over the entire wall. When cutting said lath they tend to move in and out with the saw. The result is the plaster is disturbed and often crumbles. Cutting out an outlet box is very delicate work, and crumbling 73 year old plaster is common. All of our openings for outlets could easily be covered with Jumbo plates. In 73 years the walls may have had impacts that crack the plaster behind the paint at the location where we cut in outlet boxes. Many reasons that plaster walls are problematic. If I had known of the plaster walls in the estimate phase of the job the price would have been double what we charged. No matter how much CARE one takes in cutting lath and plaster walls, some times it just crumbles, (chips). Very sorry this customer was not happy with this installation.

I called Whitney & Sons Electric at about 9am on 10/9/13 and spoke with Ed. I told him that a GFI recept had blown the previous day, and that there were numerous problems with the electric service in the house. I wanted to replace the bad recept, add another one, and check out the entire house to make sure it was safe. He told me when he could be at the house (noon the same day) and showed up when he said he would. He went through everything I wanted to have done, and took care of everything. He had the parts he needed on his truck, and had all of the tools necessary for the work. He finished everything in a timely manner, and was very professional. I was very happy with the work and the price he charged (it was a fair price). I want to replace ceiling fans in the house, and will definitely call him again for electrical work.
Description of Work: Replaced a GFI recept that blew out when I plugged two things into it. Also went through the whole house and checked both switches and recepts to identify the ones that weren't working. Replaced all the switches and recepts that were not working properly. Installed a new 4-way recept in the garage.

He did a fantastic job. He also saved me over $100 b/c I had bought lights on line and got the wrong for this job. I returned them and bought local. He could have made the "on line" lights work and charged me a LOT more. Thanks Ed.

I have had Mr. Whitney out before for some electrical issues. I called him this time to replace a heat/vent fan in a small bathroom in our home. As with the first service call, he came when expected, did all the work necessary and charged a reasonable fee. He was friendly, polite and professional. He got the work done quickly and asked if there was anything else I needed. It was a good experience, as was the first, with him. I recommend him highly.

[member name removed], We always want to do the job correctly. If the fan blades were installed incorrectly we will return at no charge to correct them. $75 dollars per fan is very reasonable price as some fans take an hour just to assemble the fan, remove the old fixture and then the fan gets installed. Unlike most shops in town, we do not charge for travel time to and from the job. A two hour job takes near three hours with travel. Call us if we can correct the fan blade color for you.

The pump went fine. The wall switch swap of toggle and dimmer at the same switch change the way the lights turned on and off. Both switches were two ways and the 'other half' of each switch didn't work right. The electrician returned and remedied the situation. In other words he made it right.

I called Mr. Whitney and he found time to come out the very next day due to an unexpected opening in his schedule. I was at work so my father was at the house to supervise the job. I left a general note reiterating what I needed done. Mr. Whitney arrived on time and was expertly knowledgeable and prepared. He quickly and professionally completed the job and even noticed that the doorbell was not working and explained to my father what the problem probably was and how it could be fixed. I now tell everyone I know that if they need an electrician, I have a referral. I will definitely hire again and highly recommend to my friends and family.

I had great experience with Ed Whitney! I called on Friday afternoon and left a message. He called me back promptly and we agreed on a time for him to come the following Monday. He called an hour before to confirm and let me know he was on the way. I appreciate that he posted a picture of his truck on Angie's list, so I was sure it was him pulling up to my house. He was very professional and efficient and installed my lighting fixtures in my kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. I told him that I was in the process of "updating" a few things in the house, and he gave me a really good and inexpensive DIY tip on how to bring my kitchen ceiling lights out of the 1970s! (I plan to do this immediately.) He also very quickly diagnosed the issue with 3 bathroom outlets not working properly, and replaced one outlet with a more modern breaker. It was a $15 part! I anticipated a big project, but it was an easy fix. As an added bonus, the exterior outlet on the same circuit was fixed as well. He explained to me how to push the reset button if those outlets were to go out again. He presented me with a very professional typed and printed invoice. I used the $10 coupon from Angie's List. I definitely plan to use Whitney and Sons again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: I needed to have three new lighting fixtures installed. I also needed a diagnosis and possible repair (depending on price) as to why several of the electrical outlets in my bathrooms were not functioning.

Ed first looked at the wiring at the light swith and celing box, then checked my circuit box outside and inside the house to see if I had a weak circuit. Once that was deemed fine, he then accomplished a repair where he fed power to the unpowered circuit from the adjacent light switch. Total time for the repair was approx 1 hour and 15 minutes. Light works great.
Description of Work: Ed was very organized and professional. He diagnosed my electrical problem quickly (no power to ceiling box) and provided an effective repair solution and reasonable price.

I had had some electrical work done last year but I recently had doubts about the quality of that individual's work (not from this company). Plus, I was having a problem with my washer and dryer shutting off. I saw online that Whitney and Sons Electric Co had a coupon for $10 and also seemed to have the highest rating. I was lucky enough that he was available the same afternoon I called. When Ed came, he explained everything he would be doing and also showed me some of the problems as he took the outlets apart to check the wiring. I was especially pleased that he solved one issue I hadn't even asked to be fixed but it will make things much easier for my outdoor lighting. He got all the problems solved in about an hour and I am very pleased with the work!
Description of Work: He had to do several things: replace a non-grounded outlet; troubleshoot an outlet that kept going out; fixed another outlet that had loose wire; check breaker box.

Mr. Whitney was not able to keep our appointmnt - had to push it back an hour. However, he did phone me before the original appointed time to reschedule. He worked efficiently and let me know what he was doing. I am satisfied with the service provided and pleased with the cost. I have spent substantially more in the past for comparable repairs.
Description of Work: I installed a ceiling light fixture. After my installation, the breaker tripped and the fixture did not work. Mr. Whitney checked out the fixture thoroughly, but found no defect. Eventually, he determined that the wall switch was defective. He replaced the switch, which solved the problem. The operation took about 50 minutes.

Many company's give you a response time of 8 to noon, or 12 to 5. I think that can be better served with a appointment time with one hour window. Unfortunately the previous job took substantial more time than anticipated . I called the customer to let him know I was running late so we could change or extend the time frame.

It went extremely well. The contractor showed up just as expected and took a look at our electrical panel. We had been having problems with frequent power outages and he noticed that we simply had a loose wire that he suspected was causing the problem. He corrected the problem and told us if we continued to have any troubles to call and he'd come right back out. We have not had any outages since his visit.

I took several bids and his was the most reasonable. i make several phone calls prior to the work, asking questions, and he was very patient with my lack of knowledge. My old electrical box was a mess and it took some time for him to make sense of it and as a result, the job took a more time than expected and he ended up working late several days. He was honest in telling me that he accidentaly blew an transfomer and board on my A/C - heating unit and replaced them at his cost. When I called about the A/C - heat still not working, he was concerned and made another trip out to check the furnace and corrected it, again at expense. I found him to be professional, friendly, accountable and extremely reliable. I will use him again for future work.
Description of Work: Mr Whitney and assistant came and updated my electrical box, installed 3 indoor light fixtures, 2 gfi outlets, and about six 3 prong outlets. He also upgraded my outdoor security light fixtures and 2 porch lights. A new electric stove outlet had to be installed and the plug added.
