The designer was not knowledgeable about the KraftMaid cabinets I wanted. He was fairly new, so he said. For instance, I have a corner sink and a special cabinet is needed for the cast iron double sink I wanted. He did not put the correct cabinet in the design for my sink and I ended up contacting KraftMaid to find out the correct cabinet and informed him. I initially took in a detailed drawing of my new kitchen with every kind of measurement. I discussed with him that I had a dropped ceiling over the upper cabinet area. He put taller upper cabinets in the design and when the installer arrived to measure for the cabinet layout he informed me that those cabinets had to the shorter. Since I had already paid for the cabinets I had to return to the store to have the design corrected. Before paying for the cabinets I inquired if I should pay for installation and my countertops then also. I was told not to do that for about three weeks. I was also told that since I was having Lowes install everything I would not have to pay sales tax on the products. However, at the register I was charged sales tax. When I returned to have the cabinet order corrected it took an hour to redo the design and two hours to get a refund on the first cabinet order and to get my sales tax back. I was to receive a discount in the form of a gift card for about $450 because I ordered before this offer ended. That was to happen the next day after I first paid for the cabinets. Because I was given a refund for that payment and then charged for the new cabinet order I lost out on that discount. That was solely the fault of the designer. Also, the designer forgot to have an appointment made with the installer to measure my kitchen prior to sending in the cabinet order. I had to call the designer and ask him to do that. The installer also told me that I should have paid for the installation and countertop at the same time as the cabinets were paid for. That was why I had to pay sales tax initially and was later refunded. The designer told me that I was on my own to order my sink, dishwasher, disposal, stove and microwave. In the process I was assigned two plumbing companies; one to install the dishwasher and another for the sink and disposal. This turned out to be incorrect, although I inquired of the installation dept, the designer and the plumbing dept about why I needed two plumbers and was told it was Lowes policy. At the last minute, just before installation of these 3 items one plumbing co. called and informed me that only one company could do the job. They called Lowes and was informed that what I had been told was incorrect, so one plumber it was. The countertop company truck arrived on delivery day but only had the smallest piece of my three piece top. The driver informed me that because he had come over 200 miles to deliver it he couldn't return and pick up the missing pieces. The installer then informed me that it would be another week before install of my countertop and sink. I had already waited 2 weeks for this. During all of this I was making dozens of phone calls trying to get straight answers to questions. I was given information that was then contradicted by someone else. This happened over and over. Very few of those at Lowes and at the subcontractor's knew what was supposed to be done or in what sequence. It turned out that one cabinet did not get ordered with the roll out shelves that I requested although I had questioned the designer before paying for the cabinets as to whether all the cabinets had roll out shelves. I had to get the designer to order the rollout shelves later and the installer came back and put them in. This is just the highlights of what went wrong with my "trial by Lowes".

My designer was not knowledgeable of Lowe's practices. I took a detailed computer drawing of my kitchen with every kind of measurement imaginable to him. I have a corner sink and needed a specific size base cabinet for a double bowl cast iron sink. After taking a copy of my finished design home I found out that the sink I had requested could not fit into the cabinet on the design. I contacted KraftMaid and asked them to recommend which cabinets in their specs. I could use with that sink. Then I called the designer and told him what I had found out. He expressed surprise and said that because the size sink I wanted was superimposed on the design in his program he just decided that it would fit. Prior to going home with the design I paid for my cabinet order. I also wanted to pay for the installation and countertop at the same time but the designer told me to wait 3 weeks before ordering both of them. I questioned him, because I had, some years ago, had two other kitchens designed and installed and remembered the procedure for ordering, etc. He definately wanted me to only pay for the cabinets. When we got up front to pay I was informed that I had to pay sales tax. ( I had been told by my designer and another designer who was also in the dept that sales tax was not paid if I had the cabinets installed by Lowes) I went ahead and paid because if I hadn't ordered that day I would miss out on a substantial discount on the cabinets. Upon getting home I realized that the designer had not scheduled the installer to come to my home for a measurement. This was supposed to be done before the cabinets were ordered. I called him and he made an appointment with the installer. The installer questioned me, during the measurement, as to why I hadn't paid for the installation with the cabinets. I told him what the installer said and he advised me to contact him immediately and pay for the installation and also for the countertops. The installer also found out that the upper cabinets which had been ordered were too tall for my space because of the soffit above the upper cabinets. The designer had been told about that and measurement, etc had been discussed before the design was begun. I then had to return to the store and have the design reworked and was to be given a refund for the difference in cost for the shorter cabinets as well as refund of the tax previously charged. I was there for more than 3 hours trying to get this all straightened out. One base cabinet was designed with a drawer on the bottom. The designer was so clueless about how to do this that the cabinet has the bottom drawer - but the space inside is only a little over an inch of usable space. Also all the base cabinets but one was to have roll-out shelves. He didn't put that into one cabinet. I asked him before finalizing the design if he had added roll-outs on all cabinets and he assured me that he had. He also told me that I was on my own when purchasing my appliances and sink; that he had nothing to do with that. Another problem was that I was assigned two different plumbers. - one to install the dishwasher and one for the sink and disposal. I was told by the installation dept, the designer and the plumbing dept. that this was Lowes policy. It wasn't until the day before the dishwasher, sink and disposal was to be installed that one of the plumbing co. people called to tell me that I should only be using one plumber for all the installations. They called Lowes and got it straightened out. When the countertop subcontractor delivered my 3 pieces of top they had to travel over 200 miles to do that. When they unloaded they only had one piece. I had to wait a week for them to bring the other two pieces and so had no sink for an extra week. The only bright spot in this whole trial was the cabinet installer. He did an outstanding job and even came back two times for minor tweaks. I must add that this designer needs serious retraining. There are some other minor mishaps associated with this purchase and installation but these are the highlights

They came the next day when I bought it and they installed it. They did a great job and did extra cleaning on the lights and things. On the door, as soon as the door was in, they called me up and they can install it. I really love that I didn’t have to wait to get it installed.

We just like their selection and their prices. They are also close. They’ve all been great. Their staff is very helpful. We special ordered a couple of things through them and we were very impressed with them. They got it for us very quickly. We go there at least once a week. We would use their services again in the future.
