Very discouraging encounter with CTS. The Owner Greg Strange did the quote and really sold us on using them. They were the most expensive of the three quotes we requested but we went with them in spite of the price because Greg was so professional and convincing and we thought "you get what you pay for". Well we learned that Greg's professionalism was mostly an act - telling suckers like us what we wanted to hear. We scheduled a date and were told it would take two days to do the countertops, sink, and backsplash; the lights would be done later. Two weeks after they started we were still trying to get them to complete the work on the backsplash. It was never actually 100% completed (they never finished the Caulking) but I finally just paid them to end the drama. While waiting on the backsplash to be completed they started the lights which were NOT what I expected. After a week Greg did agree to remove the lights and did not charge me for that work but you can imagine how excited I was to have that mess in my kitchen for a week. Bottom line is they do good Granite and plumbing work but I would NOT let them do tile work unless you have weeks of time to get it done, don't mind cleaning up after them, and have someone at your house all the time to accommodate them as they do not keep their appointments - Oh and you want to pay a premium. I gave them C because they are NOT dishonest - they did not steal my money they just wasted weeks of my and my wife's time, missed several appointments are difficult to contact by phone and are really just ambivalent about finishing a job. DO NOT pay them until you are 100% sure they are done. I had to stop payment on my final payment to get them to come finish my project (which was never really finished). On the positive side their Granite installers and team were solid.

The granite we chose is beautiful & CTS was easy to deal with as far as buying & schedualing the install. The installers were punctual & nice. The problem was that 30 minutes after they had finished we noticed a crack in the granite in our kitchen. We also noticed a significant chip on a corner that butts up to the backsplash. CTS was contacted & their solution was to fill it with an epoxy/resin. No one from management or sales came to our home to inspect the problem & no other solutions were offered.

It went well. They showed up when they said they would, helped me set the new cooktop in place, hauled off the old cooktop and countertop section. They also cleaned the new countertop for me before they left. They were about 10% higher than Lowes' but I went with them because they were so highly rated. I'm very satisfied with the work they did.

The people at Countertop Solutions were wonderful to work with. We wanted a quartz countertop that would blend with the colors in the earth tone colors of the tile in our remodeled master bath. We really lucked out in finding an excess quartz piece in the measurements we needed that was part of a lot purchased by another customer. Quartz has to be purchased in a minimum quantity and the minimum quantity was way more than what we needed for our bathroom countertop. We would have had to go to another material if we had not lucked out with the excess piece. We also purchased our sink from them and Angela came up with the perfect color and size to meet our needs. About a week and a half before our countertop was installed, two of their guys came out to take the exact measurements. They noticed the round curves of our tile around the bathroom tub and suggested we do what is called a waterfall countertop. I had never heard of that before. When the installers finished installing it a week and a half later, I was blown away. It was gorgeous and I'm so glad they suggested we do this. The guys that took the measurements and installed our countertop were professional, on time, and did a great job. We had to be one of their smaller jobs, but you would never have known that by the great service they provided. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them!

They showed up on time and began working to remove my old countertops. Once that was removed they began making their template. This was a very long process (which I was not informed would take 3+ hrs). They returned with granite and began putting in countertops. By the time they were through, the countertops were at least 1/2" from bottom of backsplash. They had cut it incorrectly around my sink and had to move my sink to make it fit properly and also had to put a seam right next to sink. All fo the sanding was done inside my house on the granite. They missed several areas of sanding on the edges along with damaging one area on top. They scratched my wood floors with their equipment and of course, denied that. They had to come back to redo a seam that I refused to accept. The granite person was not very experienced (their own personnel told me that part). They only good thing was they brought the correct granite and they did give me a price break on backsplash that I had to put in due to their incompetence. The backsplash worker's were very pleasant and seemed to know what they were doing. The backsplash was done very well.

The work was exceptional. The Countertop Solutions (CTS) original two week estimate ran closer to three, but this was because of some unforeseen issues which developed and the desire of Ron, the lead guy to "get it right". The guys who did the tile also did an excellent job. I don't think any company could have done better work. CTS also installed the granite vanity tops in the bathrooms the previous summer. That job went well also. On this job, we took three bids and CTS came in the least expensive. Cheap does not always mean best, but our previous experience with this company told us this was the right contract to sign. Ron has 30+ years electrical and plumbing experience and did that work on a separate contract basis. Operating this way, the installs were seamless, since there was no waiting for an outside plumber or electrician. All the CTS people were not only very good at what they did, but were respectful of the fact that we were living in the house while this was going on and kept the expected (and unexpected) disruptions and inconveniences to a minimum for us. I can't say how much we appreciate their work and would recommend them to anyone wanting to remodel a bathroom or two. (The did our kitchen about three years ago, but that's another story.).

CounterTop Solutions Inc are very professional, they are wonderful people. They are easy to talk to and they are right there willing to help you out in any way they can, at your convenience, not theirs. If there is something that you want that they don't supply or don't have, they will give you contacts to go look at somebody who does have it. So they don't try to sell you something that you don't want. Their prices are very reasonable.

The crew arrived about a half hour later than scheduled. When they arrive it was discovered that our sink counter top had been broken on transport. The team lead immediately called the shop and CS began fabricating a new countertop to replace the original. We were promised that it would be done about 4:00 PM and the job completed by 6:00 PM. The crew removed the sink, cook top and the old counters without damage to the existing cabinets and removed the old back splashes. They built up both cabinets and installed the cooktop counter by 1:30 PM. They broke for lunch and said that they would return with the new sink countertop when it was done. CS called about $:00 PM to let us know that the new countertop was done and the crew would be there about 4:30 to complete the job. They arrived and installed the sink counter top finishing up around 6:00 PM as promised. The crew was very professional and curtious. They cleaned up after each countertop was installed. The countertops look fantastic. Good job CS.

Everyone was nice and friendly at first. They scheduled the job, created templates and did the installation in a timely manner. There were measuring mistakes in all three bathrooms that required new granite to be cut and installed, which they did. After the installation, I kept getting orange stains on my clothing whenever I bumped up against three of the four countertops - the ones with the Hurricane granite. After investigating, I discovered from a third party that they used an inferior dyed granite without informing me. The granite was actually gray underneath the yellow/orange dye - I still have pieces of it. They were not able to seal in the dye and it came off on contact. I let them try to seal in the dye four times with no success. When I asked for the granite to be replaced things got ugly fast. The owner was, in my opinion, verbally abusive, inconsistant with his explanations and acted in a bullying manner towards me. I was so concerened that after our first conversation, when I had to ask him to stop yelling at me twice, I began taping our subsequent conversations, which I still have. The owner brought his granite supplier into the negotiations, who told me that Counter Top Solutions was at fault due to their decision to try and cover up the granite with dye instead of returning it to them. I have this conversation recorded as well. The owner's demeanor continued to be unprofessional in my opinion, and we were so horrified by our continuing experience that we ultimately decided to walk away. When we paid another company to have the countertops replaced, they discovered that one section done by Counter Top Solutions was never even attached - it was mearly sitting on top of the cabinet. This was the worst experince I ever had with a contractor and one that I have and will continue to tell everyone about, including other contractors. The response to my posting, while appreciated, is not truthful. As recorded conversations show, CSI first told me the dye was the problem, even though it was "very epensive". After I talked to the dye specialist they were using, I learned that the dye was not the problem. The granite was extremely pourous and did not hold the sealant. CSI expressed annoyance that the dye specialist talked to me. The specialist never solved the issue as stated in CSI's response. It was not another sealer that was needed, it was very pourous granite that would not hold the sealer. This is just another example of their many attempts to distort the truth. We never reached an agreement of redoing the granite as the owner of CSI refused to do anything until I paid him the few hundred dollars left on one vanity - there was only one that was OK, not two as they stated. I told them repeatedly that I would pay in full once the job was done. CSI continued to tell us that it was their way or no way, so we decided to walk away from these people. My biggest regret, besides contracting them at all, was paying in cash. I was trying to help the small business and it came back to haunt me. Paying by credit card gives the consumer the power to deal with contractors reasonably. My dealings with CSI were reminisant of junior high school where one bully thinks he's running the show.

Response from CounterTop Solutions Inc
Countertop Solutions takes very seriously the opinions of our customers, whether they are good or bad. We try very hard to give our clients a positive, unique, granite buying experience. We currently have a 95% satisfaction rating with our clients and we realize it is very challenging to win over that last 5%. We keep trying. We were sold Granite by our supplier that had been treated with a special resin designed to enhance the natural color of the stone. It was gorgeous! We were not informed up front about this and so we proceeded as normal. After the complete installation the member informed us about her concern. We immediately attempted to fix the issue, 4 different times, using our standard method. We were unaware at the time that a different "sealant" was needed to solve the problem. After further research we were able to get the correct sealant that would properly seal the edges, eliminate the problem, & complete the job. By that time the member became frustrated and impatient with us as she no longer wanted it fixed, but now demanded it be replaced! After meeting with our supplier we both decided to completely replace her granite with a much more expensive granite of her choosing. When we showed up to re-template her tops she refused to allow us in her home & would not communicate with us at all. We found out later that she had already gone with another fabricator. Unfortunately she left us with an outstanding balance on 2 bath vanities of a different color that were not an issue. As a Company we are committed to doing business with character and integrity. We attempt to be professional in all our business dealings. However, we fell short in our goal to please the member and we are truly sorry. We wish her the best. We chose Countertop Solutions by checking online for area granite dealers in our area and follow up with a check of Angie?s list and the BBB and they were highly rated. We went by the showroom and were greeted by Greg Strange the owner. He showed the displays in his showroom and explained the different edges that we included and upgrades. He then took us back to the warehouse and my wife found an exotic granite she fell in love with. It seemed very reasonably priced and we asked him to measure and give us a bid. He does not do backsplash and recommended a local retailer for us to check out. We did order the stainless steel sink from him. He broke off a piece of our granite so we could match it up. He set up a time that afternoon, measured our kitchen and told us he would email us a bid. A couple of hours later we received the bid, felt it was very reasonable in comparison to what we had seen at the large DIY stores, called him almost immediately and set an appointment for the next morning to sign a contract. When we arrived he showed us the contract and I mentioned I had noticed on Angie?s list that he offered Angie?s customers a 5% discount. He had no idea what I was talking about. We chose an included edge, paid 50% down. A template date was set and an install date. He also does window sills so we also order 2 of the sills. We went home and decided to do a little more research as we had made a pretty quick decision without much research. First I rechecked Angie?s list and found the 5% discount, I copied and pasted it and emailed it back to Greg. I had a response the next business day apologizing that it was something they had put on 5 years ago and no one had ever noticed it before and he thought it had been taken off. As a reward for finding it he offered us a $400 edge extension for $75 and a little granite countertop of our choice. We really did not want the countertop but we did take the edge deal. We in fact chose a better edge upgrade for another $400. On doing research on the internet we found there are 2 sizes of granite, 2 cm and 3 cm. We had bought a 2 cm but we were never told there were 2 sizes. In doing research we had found that for our situation a 2 cm was best and with the upgrade edge it looks like thicker granite. The template man called and rescheduled a day later and showed up on time. He was there 3 hours measuring and advised us that we would need 3 corbels for our bar overhang. What my wife like most about our granite is that it had quartz crystals though out and a beautiful vein in the center. She asked the template person if that vein could be placed on her bar and he told her that he would write it down but could not promise as the had to get all the pieces out of the granite. She was quite upset about that and I suggested that we track down Greg at the home show that weekend and ask him. We did that and Greg said he appreciated her love of the stone as he was a rock hound also and appreciated a customer that was also. He assured her that the vein could be placed in the bar. The installers showed up on the exact date scheduled and started the tear out and installation. My wife relaxed and read a book while the team worked away. When they left to go to lunch she went to look and in horror found her beautiful vein cut in half between her stove. She sent me frantic texts and I called Greg to let him know what had happened and he assured me he had personally gone back to show them the vein and how to cut it. I told him it didn?t happen and she was quite upset and he said he would go right by the house. He showed up a while later met with his crew and apologized that because of where the vein was and using all of the granite properly there was no way they could do it. He apologized as his people did not tell him. He offered her free cleaner and again a table top, which we didn?t want and found out they give you complementary cleaner anyway. She also mentioned that we had bought 3 corbels and they only installed 2. They said we only needed 2. The counter top was beautiful and the edge selection we made was perfect. Despite the horror of the cut vein, it was some very nice work. A couple of days later we had a general contractor come look at our kitchen for back splash and some other projects and he noticed that they had only installed 2 corbels. He also noticed that the silicone in the seam was smeared and that the silicone between the sink and granite was over flowed. He said he knew Greg and he was a good guy and he knew better than to leave a job this way. My wife emailed Greg about the issue and did not receive a response. She called and left a message for him to call and he didn?t call. She called again and the lady apologized that Greg had just become a grandpa and things were a little crazy around there. He called a couple of hours later, apologized and promised a crew would come that Friday to fix the issues. My wife cleared out her cabinets and waited and no one showed up and she put everything back. I went by his business the following morning and he didn?t know they didn?t come by, he apologized again and promised they would be there on Monday. They showed up as promised this time, fixed all the issues and my wife?s keen eye notice that the corbels were not even. They apologized as this was not their truck and eyeballed it as they didn?t have a tape measure. We provided them a tape measure and they properly installed the corbel. The granite looks great and the whole experience would have gone a lot better without all the issues we had to deal with. Greg Strange is a very nice likeable guy and I believe that he felt his team would do everything right and as he instructed but as you can see there were a few issues. He handled all issues eventually and we are happy with the finished product.

We have paid around $5,000 so far for the kitchen countertops. They completely disconnected a dish washer, cook tops and faucets, installed the countertops and put everything back again. They have been around for a long time and I checked the list and they had a good reputation. We had them come out and give us a bid and it sounded good, so we used them. They put granite countertops in the bathroom and right now they are doing the rest of the shower and other things in the bathroom. We like the kitchen countertops real well and we think that the price is comparable.

We started construction on our house in July 2009 and were very excited about the kitchen plans. Since the kitchen plays a very important part in our lives, we wanted it to be spectacular. We loved the look of granite, but were worried about how expensive it would be to install granite countertops. So we decided to install premade laminate countertops that had the look of granite but not the cost. Big mistake! Now, I love laminate because it's almost indestuctible. And if we had ordered custom laminate countertops, I think everything would have been fine. But if you've ever tried to install premade countertops you know that they do not work! My husband is a wonderful do-it-yourselfer, but after we had put some of the countertops in he took one look at them and said "We can't put these in and ruin our beautiful kitchen. This kitcen needs granite!" So we ripped them off and proceeded to check out granite companies. Countertop Solutions, Inc. happened to be right around the corner from where my husband works, so he went by and checked them out. He liked what he saw and had me meet him there after work. From the moment we walked into Countertop Solutions, Inc. we felt at home. Everyone was friendly and polite and did everything they could to make us feel welcome. They had several samples of their work on the showroom floor so it was easy to see what they were capable of. The sales lady took us to the workroom to pick out the slab of granite we wanted. There were many different types to choose from. That was great because we actually got to choose our countertops. The sales lady was very patient while we took our time deciding which slab was for us. She was very knowledgable and answered all of our questions. The price was very competitive with other granite companies in the area, so we decided to go with granite countertops. As it turned out, Contertop Solutions was able to fit us in almost immediately. The template maker came out to make the templates and a week later the guys came to install the countertops (they even worked over the weekend to cut our granite so our countertops would be ready on time). All I can say is that everyone who worked on the project was top-notch. They were prompt, clean, friendly, polite, and professional. Wow! My kitchen looks fabulous! It is the showpiece of the house and we couldn't be happier! I would highly recommend Countertop Solutions, Inc. to anyone who is considering installing granite (or any kind of) countertops. You won't be sorry!

Greg was available to come out the day I called to measure and provide an estimate. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The workmen were wonderful to work with, every detail was attended to, from making a template to installing the countertop itself. There was one area that the cabinet was unstained, and they used the leftover backsplash to make one extra piece to cover it so that I wouldn't have to stain 30 year old cabinets to match. They were very detailed in instructing me on how to care for the countertop, and provided a lot of hard work in a very little time.
Description of Work: Rip out old countertop and install new quartz countertop, backsplash, new sink, cooktop.
