Response from THE KITCHEN PLACE
After an initial field measure, we gave the Peck's a quote on a full remodel job of an older (1940s) home that had not been updated for very many years. The scope of the job was to remove a load bearing wall to open up the kitchen to the dining room and make it more open concept. The design they provided by a local home center was not good, so we redesigned it. They had a small awkward room which we turned in to a beautiful walk-in pantry. This then gave us some wall room for a spacious desk, since they run a business. We extended the kitchen down with an island AND a peninsula that separated the dining area. The Peck's seemed to be thrilled with our design. What Mr Peck said is true. Each time we spoke, the quote did go up. But that was because changes were made and material selections were changed. Our estimates included: 36 LF cabinets, 92SF quartz countertops, hardware, undercabinet LED lighting, recessed can lights, backsplash, 380SF of wood flooring, pantry shelving and labor to do the prep, painting, carpentry, electrical and plumbing. I have in our records 3 different estimates, ranging from the lowest at $39,000 to the highest at $45,000. That's approximately a 15% difference in cost....which is not that much. Considering the average MAJOR kitchen remodel in the USA is around $55K, this quote was on board with quality materials and professional installation. We did our best to keep costs contained for them, using a less expensive, yet nice, cabinet line. We were disappointed to see such an unfavorable grade from The Pecks, considering we did spend a lot of time working with them. Many kitchen dealers will only do one estimate. Also, we gave them a much better design than the box store, yet nothing positive was said at all about those things.
