Description of Work: Not showed for estimate. Said they couldn't get a hold of me, but I thought that's what Angie's List was for!?! They did call next day to reschedule after I left a message about the no show. Came two days later to assess the service needed. Promised a quote that evening. I waited 3 days and asked for the quote. They didn't remember who I was or why I was contacting them. Office staff seems to be totally unorganized and in disarray.

Description of Work: They replaced old ceramic storm and sanitary sewers with HDPE pipe using the pipe bursting method. The work was done for a complex of 14 homes on a single development. 1980s PVC pipes from the 14 houses come together and were connected to the 100-year old ceramic lines laid for a mansion formerly on the lot. The storm and sanitary lines were straight 6" pipes running alongside the main drive way entrance for about 160 feet to the city sewers in the road. |Their price was competitive. We had several bids, and one was $1000 lower. But we were impressed by the professionalism of Underground Connections, as well as reviews here and elswhere, and we found them to be the most credible. They proved to be a good choice. |The work was completed in three days, as expected. Our housing association had spent a lot in recent months to upgrade the landscaping (before we knew we had to replace the sewers), and Underground Connections caused only minor disruptions. We had a 6 hour period when 14 houses could not use the sewers, but this was managed well. They were knowledgeable about their methods and materials, and brought future customers to our site while the job was in progress so they could see what they would be letting themselves in for. |After closing of the holes dug at both ends of the pipes, they reseeded the grass and covered the reseeded areas with straw. A month later all we can see is a bit of the straw remaining in the new grass, and more importantly the sewers are working without any problems. |So we were delighted with their work and enthusiastically recommend them.

Description of Work: Snaked & jetted to remove roots, etc. that had grown into pipes outside to street & inside under floor. Started on earlier date & spent a lot of time, but an inside plumber was needed to repair damage to pipes under floor, before they could complete today. Very responsive.

I have a ranch home on concrete slab (no basement) with no sewer cleanout access point inside or outside the house except the roof vent pipe. I called several companies - many of them simply gave up or would offer to charge me $100 just to camera to find the access point & would not be ready to clean out through the roof vent. I stumbled on Underground connections on Angieslist & they said where there is a will there is a way to help the customers. Tom, the owner came over 1 hour before the scheduled time - when a company comes over early, that itself was a good sign. He came with all the right equipment - a sewer machine @ back of his truck with 500 feet of cable run, camera equipment & a digital locator to find the sewer pipe underground. He does not need to run any water line inside your home as his truck has it & most work is done outside. Note: having the right equipment is very important for sewer jobs & Tom had done that investment for you. Tom got up on the roof & camera-ed the sewer line at the same time run a high pressure water jet with high psi (not snake which can damage ur clay / pvc pipe) to clean out a lot of stuck toilet paper appx 100 feet of the main sewer line to the street. He also checked the 2nd bath vent stack just to root out any issue there & found none. I asked him if he could put an access point outside & he said it would be a waste of money + cleaning through the roof stack is better as it clears all the clunck inside the house too vs from outside of house to street only that other providers would do. I was so impressed with Tom's ethics, professionalism & honesty that I invited him to my other home to check out the sewer line. He camera-ed it, found it clean & recommended no need to clean & did not charge me anything extra. This is a great company with very good quality sewer equipment, expertise & can do attitude. I will hire Tom in future for some underground water line work they can also do without digging up your yard. Highly recommend once to every other year sewer maintainance service from Underground connections.

Description of Work: They ran a new water line from the street to my home and installed line into the home to new code for replacement. All work was done on time, but not as originally indicated. it was supposed to be done underground without digging, but once contracted I was told they had found that they would have to dig instead because of type of soil I had. I had contracted them specifically so that I would not have yard dug up. They did everything for same price and did restore yard, but I had not wanted them to dig in an area where I want to put in a cement driveway, and explained that to them. They ended up going along that area, which means the proposed drive and retaining wall will end up over part of the water line. That was one thing I was not happy about.

Scott was the technician assigned to take care of our job. He called about 20 minutes out, was on time and was pleasant and very professional. I explained the problems I had been having with water backing up, and showed him where the access points were located. After unsuccessfully trying to camera a backed up sanitary line (pretty nasty stuff), he recommended trying to use the high pressure jetter to break through what he thought was probably root balls that were backing up the line. This actually allowed some drainage to occur, and he was able to show me with the use of the camera the root problems I had been having. Unfortunately, about an hour into the job, his high pressure machine had some technical issues and he told me he had to reschedule the rest of the job due to this. He said he didn't want to charge me anything until he could get his machine fixed and back out to finish the job. I called to reschedule with their office personnel which are also pleasant and professional, and set up a time to finish the job. True to his word, Scott returned, was on time again, and spent several hours with a VERY clogged sanitary line of about 60 feet. It was tougher than I realized handling the high pressure line to clear the clogs, but after several hours of jetting, he was able to show me a very clean line that ran all the way out to the main tap along the street. He also showed me a spot where my old clay tile line had some damage and cracking, and showed me how they could fix it it without digging or trenching outside to fix it. The quote he gave me was much cheaper than the conventional way it would have taken to fix the line, and much nicer than digging up my yard with trenchers. I would highly recommend Underground Connections and would definitely use them again!

We contacted Underground Connections to see if they could help us diagnose a flooding issue that had arisen in our basement. Tom Carlisle came out and personally used a camera to inspect the downspout drains around our home. He was quickly able to determine there was a blockage in one of the pipes. He was friendly, professional, and was extremely patient with my 4-year old who was being very curious about his equipment! We were able to remove the blockage ourselves, per his suggestion. And, since he said he didn't really do anything, he didn't charge us a penny. We are so very grateful for his help. I would definitely call him again (and, in fact, since we aren't sure that this has fixed the problem (the county engineer confirmed Tom's assessment that it didn't seem like this was probably the root cause of the problem) we will probably be contacting him again to further scope the lines. Very happy with this company's services! Highly recommended!!!

Owner came out. Punctual. Did everything he said he would do. I would have paid $100 or more for the scan and advice but he wouldn't take it. I tried to cover their gas money to drive out and he wouldn't take that. He said almost all his business is referral. Based on this experience I would recommend them to anybody.

Best service I have ever experienced in my life! Before this gentlemen came to assist me, I had all but given up on Angie?s List and other similar services. The service this gentlemen provided has now made me an Angie?s List advocate! There needs to be a new category that is above Super Service. The owner of Underground Connections (UC) himself (Tom Carlisle) came out to my home. He was scheduled simply to give me an estimate and to suggest some options for solving my basement waterproofing woes. While I was showing him the issues, to my amazement (and delight) Tom returned to his truck and came back with his camera and began to video scope my storm sewer. Without getting very far he hit blockage. As we were pondering what the blockage was he returned to his truck and to my amazement and delight he returned with his 4000 psi Hydro-Jetting hose and went to work. He went after my blockage and began to hit clay. Between the Hydro-Jet and re-scoping we came to the conclusion that the line had somehow broken underground and was disconnected and dysfunctional. As we were baffled by the results he began to give me the most candid and honest advice I had ever received. He gave suggestions that basically precluded his own profit and made it possible to get a permanent solution for a fraction of the cost. He walked me through Craigslist.com and showed me how to get low cost solutions to the problem. All of this was actually to his own detriment. His advice was so transparent and unselfish that I realized he was seeking to serve and help well beyond seeking a profit. To really seal this unprecedented deal ? he would not take one cent for the services and advice he provided. He said since he was not able to solve it ? there would be no charge!!! Now to frame the significance of his service I must share what happened the next day. The next day a second opinion had been scheduled with an Angie?s List Super Service Award holder. Yes the Super Service guy came on time, was perfectly polished etc., but when I shared with him the problem I was having and began to substantiate it by telling how the previous contractor had scoped it for free ? he was utterly amazed. Not only did he think that was unusual but he realized he could not compete with that. The Super Service Award Winner was even more blown away that it had also been Hydro-Jetted for free ? and when I began to share the repair strategy that was suggested, the Super Service winner balked and simply said this job was not for him! I like to find a way to initiate a whole new category of award. Underground Connections should be nominated and appraised as the standard for this new level of outstanding and unselfish performance. One side note about UC. When I realized the kind of person Tom was, I asked him about the very poor (F) rating someone had given him this year. I wondered what happened. If you care to research it note the date of his ?F? rating. That day happened to be a blizzard. The lady involved did not give Tom proper access to what he needed in those conditions and just ripped Tom in her review! Tom was not defensive about it just kindly said that he actually is human and doesn't do everything perfectly. His gentle and non-defensive explanation helped me see he had done his best and the other person was way over the top in their expectations for the blizzard conditions of that day. Note: I put 1$ as the cost because the only thing Tom would allow me to give him was some bottled water. I did not want my review to be classified as a non-paying job.
Description of Work: The owner of Underground Connections (UC) himself (Tom Carlisle) came out to my home. He was scheduled simply to give me an estimate and to suggest some options for solving my basement waterproofing woes. However, he ended up serendipitously video scoping and hydro-jetting my storm sewers - all for free!

I couldn't be more pleased. We have a hundred plus year old house with the sewer running directly along and under the foundation wall. Replacement would be herculean if not damaging to the house itself. I was concerned that we might have to have the sewer replaced and fortunately those fears were laid to rest. Tom was punctual professional and personable. He explained things as he went along, and used methods that were up to date and very efficient and that thoroughly cleared the obstructions in the sewer. He also inspected the sewer and showed us that our sewer was in good shape. He answered our questions respectfully and intelligently and gave us information that other companies were not able to provide. I expect to have Underground Connections annually clear and inspect the sewer system to make sure everything remains in good working order.

We had previously called a company by the name of Waterworks for an estimate to determine what was causing a back up in our sewer line. Waterworks charged us $588 for the drain-snaking estimate. Waterworks said they snaked 120 feet of drain. They advised there was a break in our sewer pipe out by the street and it would cost $8,500-$9,000 to fix. They really made us feel afraid that we really needed to repair the drain for the price they quoted. They said the drain was very old, installed in 1925, etc., etc. We also had to pay $150 more to get the video of the drain snaking. We sought a second opinion from a company by the name of Underground Connections. Underground Connections looked at the video from Waterworks and said they didn’t believe there was a break in the pipe, just a backup with toilet paper. They also said the drain was only 40 feet, nowhere near the 120 feet Waterworks had stated to me. Therefore we had the sewer line jetted by a third company and the problem was resolved. There was no break in the line. We do not recommend any one use Waterworks but highly recommend Underground Connections. The owner of Underground Connections treated us as he wanted to be treated and stuck to his free estimate.

We had to reschedule a couple of times because they had lost some equipment due to a theft and it took longer than expected for the new equipment to arrive. They were very apologetic and understood my frustration about the delay. On the day they were to arrive they got there early. They were courteous to my tenant, worked into the evening to complete the job and cleaned up the area well. The workmen were very nice to me when I came to inspect the work, and explained what they'd done. I will have to plant some grass the spring where they had dug down to the sewer line, but other than that the yard was left n good shape.

My renters, over in Belmont County, told me the sewer was backing up in the basement. I called a well-known company; they could not open the sewer. On the internet, I found Underground Connections in Wooster, Ohio. Tom Carlisle traveled to Belmont County and with great difficulty he opened the sewer and ran a camera through it. Then the renters could use the toilets and shower. The video showed me the problems with the sewer. Then he cleaned up the backup water in the basement and checked my water heater. In his opinion, I needed 60+ feet of sewer replaced. The cost - $4,000. He told me that the sewer was likely to backup again if I did not replace it. Underground Connections website explained the sewer pipe that he would install. It is made of a new technology material; it is one piece and cannot come apart; roots cannot grow into it. Tom explained that during the installation, they shoot it through the old pipe; that they need only dig 2 small openings at the start and at the end. The installation required no backhoes or other equipment or trench digging, no tearing up the yard. Because it is trenchless and requires no long manhours to dig, it is cheaper than digging a trench. Tom told me that would not have to be there; they could do handle everything. (I live in Columbus.) I went for it and everything went smoothly. They arrived early in the morning and did not disturb my renters. Tom supervised the operation himself. And at the end of the day, the new sewer worked perfectly and my renters were happy they could shower and flush. The well-known company billed me for 4 hours work - over $500. On two separate visits they stayed a total of 1.5 hours. They were real busy and didn't bother to open the drain. They would have left my renters without a means to flush the toilets or take a shower. this would have caused great inconvenience. Possibly they may have had to go to a hotel. Tom Carlisle does not do business that way. He got the bad sewer open enough so that it could drain, then replaced it. He didn't leave us stranded without a way to flush or shower, which is what the well-known company would have done. I would recommend Underground Connections to anyone. It is a family-owned and operated business that takes pride in their work. Driving from Wooster to Belmont County is a trip that they made because they knew I was in trouble with this sewer backup. He also went the extra mile in cleaning up the mess in the basement and checking out the water heater and other plumbing in the house for me. Tom also saved me money because he determined that I did not need a water heater replacement. The other company was just running up my bill. Underground Connections in Wooster is the company to call when your sewer isn't running or needs replacement.
Description of Work: Provider opened dysfunctional sewer that was backing up in basement. Then ran camera through. Then performed trenchless sewer replacement. Replaced sewer with seamless pipe, a new material and new technology, by running it through old pipe and displacing old pipe with new pipe.

I had a 140 clay pipe sewer line being devoured by the many trees I have on my property. The line was also 13ft down in the ground and terminated in a manhole Tom dug a 6x6 hole were the pipe came out of the house, and pieced the new line together the first day The second day he put his pulling device in the manhole and pulled the new sewer line thru in a matter of hours. I did not think that it would be possible to pull the pipe thru but in spite of root infestations and very hard clay there was not a problem.I have not included the price I paid for this,(negotiation is up to you and him), but I will tell you what he saved me. Thousands of dollars, at least 50% of the cost to trench a pipe at 13ft. The dis-assembly and reassembly of my deck, Having to move my shed,Uninstall a stone paved walkway, not having a 140 mound of hard clay ( from trenching) in my yard, and root damage to several large trees,(also from trenching) possibly leading to the need to remove them. In my opinion Tom is an excellent excavator with years of experience, loves his work, and will give you a fair price. This guy is busy, but his wife Janet will answer or get an answer to all your questions.During my research on him for this project , I came across other reviews(yelp, and other discussion groups) and thought the reviews were to good to be true, but here I am writing such a review

They restored my faith in contractors. Other companies told us that we would have to hydro-excavate and that it may not even be possible to fix our problem because the neighbors house was so close. After receiving outrageous quotes from multiple larger companies these guys came in hand dug down to the problem. They traveled to Columbus and were here very early in the morning and left only after making sure the problem was fixed. I can't explain how happy I am that we chose them.

Roto Rooter had cleaned out the drain and performed a camera inspection on July 25, 2012. They told me I needed a $5500 sewer liner and "showed" me the bad pipe. I called Underground Connections for a price comparison only. John came out and showed me his camera inspection of the sewer line. It was different - no issues, no problems. He said my sewer looked great. The "Off-sets" that were a problem with Roto Rooter were just the joints. While at the house, he also looked at a window well drain that the same company told me would be $4500 to fix. He quoted $700 to resolve and his method made perfect sense. He even told us we should try to do it or get someone else since he was busy but gave us exactly what needed to be done. On top of all this great service, there was no charge. I can't say enough nice things about this individual and his company. He is not a franchise. This company is out of Cleveland but works all over Ohio.
