JOHN DIBART INC

The process started in 2006 as we designed our new home. John Dibart was contracted to build over $70K worth of custom furniture and cabinets. One of the items was a custom dining room set which cost $7K (as part of the $70K package). Although we moved in August 2007, Mr. Dibart's team ran behind schedule and didn't deliver the dining room set until 2 months later. Overall the work that Mr. Dibart's team was very good (hence the B grade for quality and price). Unfortunately the dining room table began to crack. Within months the table had numerous and sizable cracks in the wood as well as table top seams separating. Mr. Dibart did survey the issue and tried to "fill" in the cracks but things only got worse. Mr. Dibart blamed it on the wood not drying out enough in his workshop. He offered to replace the table which we appreciated and accepted. Nine months later we get a replacement table. Within months the same issue starts happening with the new table. At first we didn't complain as the cracks were small. But over the next year or so the cracks got bigger and more numerous. We started calling Mr. Dibart in 2012. Multiple times we were told that he would call us back but never did. When I did get him on his cell phone he told me how understaffed he was and he assured me that "next week" he would follow up. Well next week came and went and finally in June/July 2013 he sent a worker out to the home to review the table as well as other touch up work that needed to be done. The worker photographed the table and agreed that there was a problem, again. He assured me that Mr. Dibart would be in touch the following week. The following week came and went. When I was able to track down Mr. Dibart he assured me that he would be getting to us shortly. Today, Nov 6, 2013, I was finally able to connect with Mr. Dibart. First he tells me that it will be Dec at the earliest before he might be able to get to us. When I expressed my frustration with the endless push off of service he got very combative and immediately stated that there is no way he is replacing the table again. When I asked him if he thought this was the fair thing to do given our patience with him and his firm as well as the fact that from the beginning the table wasn't built properly he became incredulous and told me this is the way it is, people get "screwed" all the time and he tried once to fix it but "no way in h***" is he doing it again. So there you have it. Spent a small fortune with this company and although the overall quality was good (except for the dining room table) their on-going support of their product and the owner's tough luck attitude should make someone move on to other service providers.
