+ 0 moreThey showed up and immediately said that the ignition was slow and had roll out. Also said that the secondary was leaning the "wrong way" and needed to lean the other way. Never had a problem with our furnace. Just needed it cleaned and certified to sell. They said it needed to be replaced. For 7k!! My wife was there while I was working. Told her to tell them to forget it. Charged her $135 and didn't even clean it. Contacted another company and was told that a part for the AC was leaking and needed replaced. He cleaned it and replaced that part for 1k and signed the certification of safe operation. I would never recommend Hjacks to anyone. I feel they are trying to rip people off and oversell so people will just buy new furnaces or ACs. Avoid them at all costs!

I had a toilet running problem, called all over the place and was quoted ridiculous solutions, including breaking the walls and replacing the pipes. My worst nightmare. But H Jack's plumber came this morning and readjusted the valve inside the toilet tank. This took care of my problem in an instant, my toilet is not running anymore and I am just as happy. The plumber was super patient and understanding of my anxiety over this issue. I highly recommend hiring H Jack's for all your plumbing needs. They are the best!

+ -1 moreI hired HJack to come out on 12-26 because my gas furnace had gone out. They told me it would be $135 just to come out but I agreed anyway thinking that this is what they all charged. A tech came out and lit my pilot and I was presented with a bill of $245. He had to point where to initial and sign because I just had cataract surgery. The heat went back out on the 29th. I put on my old glasses to look at the receipt for the phone number and then noticed that I was supposed to be given at least an oral quote on any repair over $25, which they didn’t do. A different tech came out and said I needed a wire repair and quoted $395 because he also said he needed to run a ‘gas pressure test’. I waited upstairs. He then told me that I had two valves that were leaking gas and gave me a quote for an additional $739 (upon the $395!) and that he would have to shut down the gas to the whole house if I didn’t agree to go ahead and have the work done. I started crying and told him I couldn’t afford it. He must have called the 1st tech to come out while he went out to his truck to write up the quote because the 1st tech than showed up at the house and confirmed that what I was told was true. I was also told my hot water tank would need work which I had no problems with and didn’t call them out to even look at! I told them I was going to call Dominion to come out and check for gas leaks because I was starting to feel that they were scamming me. They said they would leave the ‘heat on for the night’ but that I was to contact the office in the morning because they offer financing; otherwise they would have to shut the gas off ‘for your safety’. I had no intentions of having them come back out unless I could get confirmation from Dominion, and even then was thinking I would call someone else out. Because I just had cataract surgery I had an 8:10 appointment the next morning. While I was there, HJack’s called my phone twice, which I had on vibrate and didn’t answer. I headed home and turned on my street at 8:49 and HJack’s was IN MY DRIVEWAY! I drove by and went straight to the police station shaking because I was actually feeling harassed by them; that they weren’t going to give me time to even call Dominion because I’d probably find out I was being scammed, or that I would call someone else. I had the police go to my house to tell them to leave. Imagine coming home from an appointment not being able to pull in your driveway, enter your house and use your own bathroom in private! I don’t know what they did to my hot water tank but I had no hot water on the 31st! They were not called out to look at the hot water tank and I had no issues with the tank until they ‘looked at it’ during the gas pressure test! I am now, during a pandemic, left with no hot water! I’ll have to now call out someone else to fix a problem I did not have until after HJack’s came out! I am a woman alone and fell prey to their scamming! Avoid at all costs or it will cost you all!

+ -1 moreI had HJacks out to my house today for my furnace that had a bad inducer motor. They told me the price to fix it was $963. I checked and the part was available for $279 to $385 (my price, not what they would actually pay for the part). I said no thank you that I would fix it myself. They charged me an $89 service fee just to come out. I bought the part from a nearby HVAC store and replaced it myself in less than 30 minutes. I understand they are a business and need to make money but I feel that them making what would have been a $750 profit for a job that I as a homeowner was able to finish in 30 minutes is an uncalled for ripoff

Price was extremely high for 10 minutes work during normal business hours and it was not a rush or an emergency situation Highly unlikely this company will be used again The company was called, explained the disappointment about the price, and was told the situation would be reviewed and a call back would be completed. Call has not been received, yet.

+ -1 moreEmailed H Jack at 6:30am and promptly got a call back. They were at the house by 8:15 am. The initial leak test indicated nearly every joint was leaking on the line. They provided a quote and started working immediately stating they thought it would take 2 plumbers 1 day. By the end of the day the crew had grown to 4 plumbers and they stayed to work until 6pm when the water heater could be turned back on. The next day 5 plumbers came back and finished up by 1 pm. We were nervous that the price was going to shoot up with the extensive work required but they honored the original quote which was awesome for us. They also rerouted a lot of weird original plumbing to make it more accessible and safe. No issues when gas company came back to turn it back on. Very happy with H Jack’s team!
Description of Work: Came home from a long weekend and smelled gas in the house. Called gas company and they completely shut off the gas at 1am. All fittings were old and not salvageable. Had to replace entire internal gas line for a gas stove, fireplace and furnace. All plumbing seemed to be original to 1964 house.

They reviewed the installation before and after with me, told me what to expect and after installation went over it again and answered all my questions. They cleaned up after each day. I feel I got an excellent product at a very good price with excellent service. I would use them again and would readily recommend them to friends and family. Very good experience.

+ -1 moreMy homeowners insurance company continues to pursue them for the damages, but have been stonewalled with claims that they are not responsible. The regional VP remains uncooperative and rude, refusing to work to rectify their mistake. He continues to claim that his plumber could not have possibly spilled enough water to warrant that amount of clean up, even though he was not present at the time of the damage and the plumber who was present had his back to them problem. Neither of them can speak to the amount of water that flowed under my floor that day with any accuracy. It has been nearly three months of awaiting the financial recovery for an unexpected floor replacement that we had no intention of doing, nor did we need, before they set foot in my home. This company is unwilling to accept accountability for their mistakes and refuses to approach this incident with the integrity that the consumer deserves. We are innocent victims of extraordinarily poor business practices. The regional VP of this company should be ashamed. I warn anyone who is need of plumbing services to stay clear of H Jacks and I will continue to pursue the recovery of the expense of the botched service call, the clean up and the replacement of what was a perfectly good floor.
Description of Work: My experience with H Jacks has been a disaster. One evening my husband and I noticed the drain in our kitchen sink backing up. Known locally for their service, we called H Jacks. The plumber they sent was over within the hour. During the repair, he ran the faucet and the disposal to test the drainage. While he was watching the sink from above, the disposal came apart below and flooded below the sink, along the cabinets and in to the dining room, flowing beneath the floating laminate flooring. As he rushed to his van for towels, I ran to mop up what I could. I stepped on to my dining room floor and water seeped through the seams from underneath. If anyone is familiar with laminate flooring, you know that once water is locked below the floor, it has to be replaced and it is nearly impossible to piece back together board by board. The plumber on the job was apologetic and documented the incident accordingly. It should have ended there but it gets worse. The next day my husband and I called the regional office to address the incident and work towards rectifying the damages. The regional VP made an appointment to come to our home to assess the damages that evening. The regional VP looked at our floor and determined it was not wet underneath, by merely touching the surface, and we were over reacting. He was insistent and defensive. He even went so far as to claim it wasn't that much water and couldn't possibly pose a problem, even though he was not at the scene. His demeanor was not what you would expect from a company that prides itself on customer service. After arguing the facts of the situation in my home for nearly an hour he agreed to send out a team to test the area looking for moisture the next morning. On the third day of this debacle, I met the Water Extraction Team at my home (excellent company). After only 10 minutes in my house with their moisture detecting tools they determined that yes, indeed, there is standing water between my laminate floor and the concrete slab. They recommended they remove the flooring immediately. Tired by H Jacks, they put a call in the them to await next steps. Even after reporting their findings to H Jacks, the plumbing company refused to accept responsibility and sent the WET team away. The regional VP then called my husband and offered him an ultimatum. We could either allow H Jacks to come back in to my home and remove only affected boards and replace them (again, a nearly impossible feat to match a 10 year old laminate floor) or we could purchase all new flooring materials and they would pay for labor. We refused to be bullied in to taking financial responsibility for what should have been a reputable company's mistake and immediately made an insurance claim. We called ServiceMaster Disaster Recon (excellent company) and they were at my house with my insurance adjuster within the hour to assess the damages and remove my flooring. It took two full days for the concrete and affected drywall to dry with industrial fans and a humidifier provided by ServiceMaster Disaster Recon. Even after two professional water removal companies and the insurance adjuster's documentation of the damage, the regional VP has refused to take responsible.

Description of Work: Jeff was the technician. He did an excellent job. I neglected yearly maintenance. My boiler would not keep a flame. He cleaned the non-functioning parts and made sure the boiler was running well before he left. Also, he made sure that I would save myself some money by not neglecting the yearly service all.

Description of Work: My hot water tank was not venting properly which caused carbon monoxide to enter my home. I think they rerouted one of my pipes, I have two facets on the outside and one of them doesn't turn on anymore, my house was built in the forties so I know it's very old but I think they rerouted one of the pipes had I known more I would have go through and show me what they did and how everything works, but they were here for two days and it was a lot of work. They are trust worthy, you feel comfortable with them in the house and I think that the price is right for the amount of work that they do, you don't feel like you are being over charged and I really think that, I suggested that you hire them.
Description of Work: I used H Jack's Plumbing & Heating Co for plumbing service. They had to replace a lot of a pipes in my basement in fact the water was turned off from the curb had to call the city in two or three times actually the first time if they had to, they had to install a new pipe from the original to the original was so old they just couldn't turn it on they had to install a original, so that was basically it but it was excessive it took two days actually. Two full days. I was having trouble with the plumbing in my bathroom where it was leaking and then it had frozen in the bathroom sink it's just frozen and I couldn't turn it on or off it was just getting worse and they replaced all of that too, they replace the bathroom sink and replaces a lot pipes.

Technician didn't seem like he knew what he was doing, we had to suggest closing valves to the hot water tank because there's no way the whole tank was being pressurized, at least quickly. The technician, after 2 hours, essentially just said that the test was failing and tried to leave. There was no diagnosis whatsoever. Charged me $193 to tell me it was failing, which I already knew. Expressed my displeasure, he said a manager would call me and haven't received any calls. Very disappointed, on to the next plumbing company. Technician was very nice at first, but was clearly getting frustrated at the end. Not sure if it was lack of knowledge/training, or lack of equipment causing the issue. Also left shower head undone and lines disconnected from the hot water tank. They were out same day though. Update: A manager did get a hold of me and refunded me a little bit of the money. He offered to come out for free but after the first experience I declined. I had BAM Plumbing come out. They were quick, clearly knew what they were doing, For an air pressure test, I would stay away from H Jacks.

+ -1 moreThe work I hired Hjack's to complete was done on time. However, at one point while work was being performed I caught the plumber working in our shower tampering with our bathroom sink. He had the hot and cold fixtures removed and he stated that the sink was leaking around the fixtures. It had not been leaking prior to his arrival nor did I approve any work on our sink. The same man also tampered with the water valve behind our toilet bending it to the point it caused a drip. The toilet itself was also tampered with as the bowl will slowly drain while not in use causing the fill valve in the tank to kick on periodically throughout the day and night. This same man also cracked the tile in our shower around the soap tray nowhere near the shower valve. He also suggested we hire and pay him to fix it. Immediately following their visit i noticed a banging in the pipes whenever the kitchen sink is turned on. That issue did not exist before the work was done. It is my firm belief that these problems were deliberately introduced in an attempt to receive a call back for more costly service. The work was performed by Toby, Dave and Bill. If you have any respect for your home or yourself do not hire Hjack's for anything.

Description of Work: Scoped out all the drains to determine the problem. Excavated the side and part of the front yard. Dug down about 6-8 ft. Determined the source of the water in the basement. Replaced the footer drains, installed 4 cleanouts, installed new window well drains, filled in with gravel, went as far into the front yard as possible to reach the storm drain, cut out old down spout drain and replaced two including one under the front porch. Jetted out all the drains. Removed all the old broken drains , repaired the connection to the sump pump underground, cleaned the tree lawn of mud, cleaned out inside crock of sub pump.

+ 3 moreOn the day before leaving on vacation, our 8 year old York furnace went on the fritz. We are a long time customer of H Jack plumbing and heating . We actually purchased the furnace from them along with a hot water heater and numerous service calls over the years. The day before the furnace went out, we had hired H Jack's to install a tub and do all the rough in plumbing for a complete bathroom remodel in progress at our home. Yesterday's bill for the plumbing work was ~$1800. All of the work they have done has been satisfactory to date. For today's furnace job, The repair crew showed up promptly for an emergency repair call on a Saturday. For the record, the crew was courteous and professional. The diagnosis was a defective inducer motor. After checking with the supervisor - Pat - I was told the price would be $593.00 plus the $89.00 diagnostic fee. I told the repair crew that price seemed steep for a small, simple electric motor. I went on the Internet and found multiple sources selling the same (identical) part for $130 to $160. I showed the Internet results to the technicians. They called the supervisor (Pat) to let him know about my concern. I could overhear the conversation with Pat. Pat said " well, it's Saturday, I've got the part... If he wants his heat on, guess he'll have to pay my price". I was obviously furious to hear that kind of extortion from a company I had done so much business with over an extended period AND just yesterday I had spent $1800 with them! I asked to speak with Pat and pleaded my case for being a loyal customer and seeing the 5X mark- up he was asking for parts for this emergency repair. He offered to waive the $89 diagnostic fee. Unfortunately, Pat was right. He had me between a rock and a hard spot as I did not have time to find an alternate solution. So, we paid the extortion! It is now clear how H Jack's views their long time loyal customers. But, It will be the last time H Jack's gets any of my business!

+ 1 moreDear Angie's List, You had better check out this company to see if it'ss the one who hires people to stand out in 20 degree weather wearing a sandwich board saying "We Want to be your Plumber" - Jack's. Not only do I think it's not a very effective mode of advertising, it's inhuman treatment. If I had 2 ft of water in my basement they would be the last company I'd call. If this is not the same company that is responsible, my sincere apologies.

+ 0 moreThey are terrible. They wanted to charge me ridiculous amount of money. It was like $6,000 to replace the furnace which was a joke. That is why I called Old Brooklyn Heating and Cooling and they charged me $1,200. The quality of their service was not bad. They were responsive. The workers were great, but it was the people from the corporate level that were horrible. The thing they could do differently is not rip people off.
Description of Work: I used H Jack’s Plumbing. I have used them for plumbing and heating and cooling and they looked at my furnace the last time they came out.
