Solid Ground Construction, Inc. serves clients in Cuyahoga County, Geauga County, Summit County, Lorain County and surrounding areas as a leading home remodeling company.
A lesson in life. Requested this company provide an estimate for a lead abatement project. Met me at home only to say they would not provide the estimate unless I paid them $800.00 up front. Already having a rough time finding companies for this project, I agreed out of desperation even though I knew this $800.00 estimate cost was a giant red flag. John LaRussa, I believe is the owner of this company, provided the estimate for windows and siding and some other small repairs. Approximately $34,000 for everything. Sounded like a fair price but when we went to go look at the windows prior to purchase, we were looking for a better product. We decided to get the windows from another company and asked that his company just do the siding. We went back and forth with ironing out the details but he started coming up with excuses on why he had to do the windows and the siding for it to be legal with the Ohio Department of Health. I contacted ODH and they said that was not true. It became a game of back and forth from that point on. I decided to get another estimate from another lead abatement contractor (TNT construction) who came out to my house provided a lead abatement estimate (FREE OF CHARGE) and it was cheaper than what Solid Ground Construction quoted me. I called John LaRussa, to tell him we were going a different direction and asked if there was any way we could get refunded ANY of the estimate cost. He simply said "No". I felt swindled after this entire experience. I would highly recommend you look elsewhere if you are looking for a company to provide any construction related service.

September 24, 2021 Sometime in July 2021 Mr ******** called us to inquire about getting an estimate for a lead abatement on his house. He said he had a lead assessment done in order to apply for a tax credit of $ 10,000.00. He asked if we charged for an estimate and I replied yes, depending on how much work had to be done. I asked him to send me an email of the assessment and I would call him to give an approx. price for the estimate. After receiving the assessment, I quoted him between $ 500 to $ 1,000on the phone. He agreed to make the appointment and I came out to his house with my Forman to evaluate the extent of work involved and other work he wanted done. We came up with $ 800.00. He agreed and we spent several hours measuring window replacements, siding. Basically, what it was going to take to clear the violations of Lead. We sent him an itemized breakdown of each item according to the assessment. He said he was interested in us doing the job; I put in the estimate, if he contracted with us, I would give him back the $ 800.00 charge as credit. He calls me September 22, 2021 to tell me He was going with another company and wanted his money back. Anyone is entitled to get other quotes. We at Solid Ground Encourage it. It is always easier to get other quotes, when some has done the measuring and breaking done each item to give to other companies. We never charged for additional administration and additional quotes. Nor did we force or coerce, Mr. ******** on paying the $ 800.00 Unfortunately, with as much as we try to communicate each step of keeping our integrity, we end this way. We told him if he contracted with us we would give him credit on the $ 800. What contractor charges for an estimate and then losses the job and give back the cost of the estimate! He eventually took us to small claims and LOST

We had very high expectations when, after multiple meetings discussing our requirements and budget constraints, we were given professional blue prints of our project and a detailed contract. However, our project started out poorly when the person hired to do the excavation for the footers and foundation messed it up completely. The entire thing was out of square by nearly a foot - and had to be re-dug and re-poured. The contractor fired the concrete sub-contractor (it wasn't his fault - but he told us that the excavation was out of square and by how much) for telling us the truth. Our contractor wanted to "manage the message", which I believe meant not telling us. Project management was terrible. Sub-contractors would show up at inappropriate times and have to be postponed (ex. someone came to install flooring before the kitchen cabinets were in, so the flooring guy was pulled off the job and guys were sent to hang cabinets, however because they were not expecting to complete that portion of the job, they arrived unequipped with proper tools to do the job). On multiple occasions, workers were pulled off of our job to work elsewhere. The workers were sloppy, leaving construction debris all over the yard and not cleaning up after themselves. Each subcontractor had to clean up after the person who worked before them before they could get started. The main power line into the house had to be moved to accommodate the addition, and it was left too low (barely above 5 ft off of the ground) for more than two weeks. We had several contract disputes, for things that were clearly written into the contract. We are reasonable people and didn't expect anything for free - not time, not materials, not labor) or beyond our contract.
Description of Work: We hired them for a 650 sq. foot addition of an in-law suite to an existing home.

We did not realize this complaint was on anyone list. We now will respond to these exaggerated remarks. Ms. [Member Name Removed] was difficult to deal with and was in constant debates with her mother & father over design This was a mother-in law suite. They wanted more work without the need to pay for the addendums. We sent a sub contractor out to pour the slab floor for a price, but when they got out there they told Ms. [Member Name Removed] the foundation and block were out of square. It was not true because they wanted more money then what they contracted for. They alarmed Ms. [Member Name Removed] with the fact we weren't giving her addendum items for free, so they write this false statements

agreement at all! Bearing in mind, that roofers charge aprVery, very poor job! Showed up when they felt like it. Owner and workers were rude. The work was done poorly. Agreement was for them to install new roof and remove original slate roof. including cleanup. When asked to leave slate pieces, I was told that the slates were theirs to keep. This was not in our contract . and yet they took them Vintage roofing slate sells for about $3.00 each and installation per tile is about $11.00 .

This job was a community development job called the Chip program. Almost most these jobs are free grants for indigent people. We are given specifications and are amongst other contractors to bid. The specs say striping a roof and hauling away the old roof. When we took this job we were lower then the others due to the fact we could sell the slate. Ms [Member Name Removed] thought the slate belonged to her. The Annalist from community dev. read the contract to her, but she was angry and writes this false report.
