Hand nailed shingles which I was very pleased with. Worked in our job sooner because we put our home up for sale. The roofing crew knew what they were doing and were not 'imported' labor.
Description of Work: Replaced roof and removed vents and installed a roof vent system instead. Job took longer than expected, but there were only about 4 guys here at all times. Some damage done to a few bushes and trees, a few dings in eaves and siding, and a ding on woodwork near front door. Damage overall was minimal considering the size and pitch of roof. Sales person was out daily to check on progress. Actual roofers were subs.

A wind storm pulled down the electric lines, meter, casing, etc, which tore off 4 feet of gutter, facia board and cover plate, and a couple square feet of shingles. The two employees did an excellent job at repairing everything and it took as long as they estimated. The gutter and facia board cover colors were matched well to my house, as were the shingles and caulk colors. I also asked to have chimney caps installed on my chimney. I didn't know the sizes, so they brought a bunch of different sizes. I gave them a "C" for responsiveness because it took a few weeks to draw up the proposal/estimate after their on-site visit. They were extremely busy due to a large backlog from houses in area damaged from other storms. Still, it was a full month from when I first called until when the work was completed.
Description of Work: Replace damaged shingles, facia, gutter, flashing and siding. Installed chimney caps.

As a professional company it is a shame that business would be lost because of poor customer service. This was an expensive project and one that I would have glady given to Brad Smith Roofing had they ever called me back!
Description of Work: Unfortunately, I am unable to write a review on actual service completed because none was ever done. We contacted Brad Smith roofing in the beginning of July to give us an estimate on tearing down part of our roof that covered a 3 season room, and replacing gutters, etc. Drew Smith arrived for the estimate and was professional. He assured us that this job would be no problem for his company and that he could get me an estimate in a week. I followed up with Drew to get an estimate and was told that the price included everything but the electricians fee. I asked if I could get a better estimate on that fee and he told me that he would have the electrician get in touch with me to give me a better price. After that email, I have never heard from this company again, no emails or phone calls, or no sign that the electrician or Drew has ever tried to contact me again. I followed up about a week and a half later and still no response.

The work was very satisfactory. They showed up when they said they would, did a great job and I thought the price was very reasonable.
Description of Work: My back gutter had torn in half and fallen away from the house due to accumulated snow and ice. They came out promptly and replaced both the gutter (and a section of wood that had been torn off) and the downspout, which was deemed too small to work adequately.

I gave them my email address, but never heard back from them. He got up on the roof, took pictures and showed us what needed to be done. He said he would send us an estimate via email, but never did. I appreciated when he did call and let us know he would be a few minutes late for our scheduled appiontment. We have chosen another company since we never heard back from them.

Response from Brad Smith Roofing Co Inc
It is our understanding that our representative did email (as requested) the estimate last week. Brad Smith Roofing is a local, well-established family-owned company that has been in business for over 30 years. Due to the May 7th hail storm, and resulting severe damage in communities along the lake, we have been overwhelmed with customer appointments, estimate requests, and meetings with insurance adjustors. As we have been communicating to all of our current and prospective clients, we are urging that everyone be as patient as possible, and that we have a longer wait time than usual for an estimate. Certainly it is the homeowner's right to make a decision sooner. We feel badly it didn't work out better in this situation, and we will be calling to apologize. We strive to make sure all of our clients' needs are met to the best of our ability.

The work was done in the winter and if I had to do it all over again, I would wait until spring/summer. I did not want to the new shingles installed if it was below 32 degrees and/or high wind. Their scheduling person seem more focused on scheduling their crew and getting the job done than on my requests and concerns. I was told that they've been doing roofs for 30 years and they know when it's too cold/windy to put on the roof. Needless to say, it didn't feel like they were taking my requests into consideration. When they were tearing off the roof, some debris hit my neighbor's house and shattered a small piece of vinyl siding. Brad Smith contacted my neighbor and promptly repaired his siding. In addition, there was at least a foot of snow on the ground during the project so they were unable to run the magnet to pick up old nails/roof debri until the snow melted. I called them when the snow melted and I have to assume they came out because I haven't seen any stray nails or debris...but I never received a call confirming that they came back and cleaned up the yard. I don't think the info I included above should reflect adversly on Brad Smith roofing....instead I am just sharing some lessons learned that could be helpful for many types of contractors. At the end of the day, my roof is performing well and looks great. I would use Brad Smith again and may do so for my leaky garage roof.
Description of Work: Brad Smith was hired to tear off my old roof in my bungalow-style house and replace it with new shingles. Their salesperson was knowledgeable and courteous. He did a good job of reviewing the roofing material options with me and explaining how the services would be performed.

Excellent service. Their quote was very detailed and gave us complete confidence in what they were going to do. They fit into our schedule and worked with our insurance agent after we had some hail damage. There was some slight damage to the roof timber and they will repair it at no cost. They were very prompt at returning calls etc. No wonder they have a great reputation-they work hard to maintain their quality. The whole job was done in about 12 hours with 12 men and three trucks on the job! All our neighbors were amazed at how fast they got it done. I would highly recommend this company to anyone considering a roofing job.

Got off to a bad start with the company because they changed the appointment time four times! Luckily I did not have to work the day they were coming over, so I was able to be flexible, but it was still inconvenient to keep getting the appointment time changed. The guy who came out was very knowledgeable about what my home needed for ventilation and gave me some good information. I plan to contact another company to find out what they will suggest for roof ventilation, and how their price compares to the estimate from Brad Smith Roofing.
Description of Work: I contacted the company to get an estimate on some type of roof ventilation. They suggested installing six new roof vents and replacing the two current vents that our home has.

Professional (e.g. on-time, courteous, informative). The cost was in-line with other estimates (8,607.00 plus additional for any wood replacement).
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for a new roof and gutters.
In my opinion Brad Smith Roofing is an outstanding customer service company that happens to do roofing. I know that they don't just "happen" to do roofing, but the professionalism and communication is what sold me on the job. Kudos to Cindy, who answers the phones and schedules appointments and to Kim who schedules the jobs, and covers every little detail to make sure the homeowner is prepared. Josh Rees was the salesman/estimator. He was on-time and professional. We spent an hour talking about the job, but there was snow on the roof, so he came back a few days later, when I wasn't able to be home. His proposal covered not only the items we had talked about, but also the 2 chimney problems that I knew I had, but didn't know how to address. Josh spotted those problems and offered solutions. That gave me one-stop shopping. There are benefits to dealing with a large roofing contractor vs. a one man shop such as I had used before. Day one a crew of 12 to 15 arrived at 8:00AM. The roof was stripped before 11:00AM. We had planned to replace the deck on a back bedroom, 28 4x8 sheets. The family room, built in 1986, was a surprise. Jimmy, the foreman, called me up on the roof about 9:30. The original builder hadn't properly attached the plywood sheets to each other. They had warped to where there were 3 inch gaps between sheets when the shingles were removed. I authorized the additional work, quick measurements were made, Jimmy called the office. LESS THAN AN HOUR LATER, a Brad Smith truck rolled up with 55 sheets of decking. The crew lost no time waiting for material. There are benefits to dealing with a large contractor. Even with the additional deck replacement, the house was covered with ice guard and felt paper and closed to the weather by 7:00PM day 1. The crew arrived about 8:00AM day 2 and began shingling. The entire job was done, the site cleaned up, and all trash removed by 6:00PM on day 2. The roof looks beautiful. The house is cooler, thanks to the better attic ventilation. The Leaf Relief filters seem to let the gutters handle a heavy rain better than they did with Gutter Helmet. ( Hindsight note: for what I spent on Gutter Helmet and Leaf Relief, I probably could have hired someone to clean my gutters twice a year for the rest of my life.) Conclusion: I am very satisfied with Brad Smith Roofing. They will be the first contractor that I call for any other work on my house.
Description of Work: 2 layer tear-off and re-roof approximately 3800 Sq Ft. Remove and replace roof deck on 2 wings of house, total 80 4x8 sheets, plus insulation baffles. Installed ridge vents and improved eave ventilation to cool attic and preserve shingles. Repaired top of 2ftx6ft masonry chimney and replaced flue tile. Removed and replaced rusty galvinized chimney chase cap with new white aluminum cap. Provided inovative solution to chronic ice dam problem at back of kitchen. Installed Leaf Relief gutter screens to replace old Gutter Helmet.

Overall they did a good job. But there were some bumps in the road but these were addressed in a timely manner. I feel I may have paid more than would case with some other companies but I also feel that the job was done right without corners being cut. I had many questions and took my time before deciding to go with Brad Smith Roofing. Drew Smith came to my home several times to look at some areas of concern before I had even made a decision. That said something to me about the way they do business. Brad Smith Roofing was the only company of the three I obtained estimates from who provided a detailed written estimate instead of just giving me a figure over the phone. Their estimate also included new gutters which the others didn't. Once I made my mind up I didn't have to wait that long for roof to be done. Some problems came up during the job which could not really have been foreseen until the old roof had been removed. This increased the cost of my roof but I really didn't have a choice if I wanted the job done right. Brad Smith even came out to the site to assess the situation and explained what additional work needed to be done and why. The job was completed in one day and the debris clean up was very good. The crew was friendly and respectful. And they seemed genuinely concerned about doing things right. The new gutters were installed a few days later. Brad Smith Roofing did not install the gutters but instead had another company take care of this. I was shocked to see that a section of the gutters were not installed after that job was finished. I was also not pleased with the way the gutters were extending out beyond the edge of the roof in an inconsistent manner. I took photos of the problems and sent them to Brad Smith. I promptly received a phone call to schedule a time to have the gutter installer come out and fix the problem. The problem was then fixed. It took a number of weeks before the bill arrived. I noticed that about $500 of additional cost was added to the bill for sheathing. I was not informed about this additional cost above the estimate until the bill arrived. I called the office and Drew came out a few days later to explain the reason for the extra cost to my satisfaction. While cleaning up the debris in my attic after the job I noticed a smashed through section of sheathing about 6" wide. I took a photo of this and sent it to Brad Smith. In a few days a crew came out and repaired this damage.

Scott, the estimator, was extremely thorough in his inspection of the existing condition of the roof. He spent more time with us than any of the others explaining his proposal and answering our questions. We actually had to ask other companies to look more closely at items that Scott had brought to our attention. As an example, Scott asked to see our finished attic and entered crawl spaces to inspect the existing decking materials and condition. Some of the other estimators never asked to see the attic and based their proposals on past experience instead of a thorough inspection of our particular roof. Whenever additional questions arose, Scott was very easy to contact and always replied quickly answering all of our questions. In the end, we narrowed our search down to Brad Smith Roofing and one other company. The two proposals were the most detailed and were within $50 of each other on a $10,500 job. We ended up choosing the other company after we discovered that two of our close friends utilized them for a similar project and knew the owner personally.
Description of Work: My wife and I requested proposals from five roofing companies to perform a complete tear-off and replacement of our entire roof (approx. 17 sq). The work required the removal of three existing layers of roofing materials (including the original wood shake), installation of a chimney cricket/diverter, new gutters and downspouts, and total replacement of a smaller flat roof.

My roof was leaking by the chimney and I suspected that it was related to the flashing. I was looking for a simple repair because I know that I will need a new roof in five years or so and did not want to spend more than I needed to. I called Brad Smith Roofing for an estimate based upon what I found on the list and told them what I suspected the problem was and that I was just looking for a simple repair. The gentleman who came out to look at the job, who is not a roofer, told me that he did not get up on the roof to look at the area around the chimney, but got up on the ladder to have a look at it from the edge of the roof, which I thought was very odd. (He did this before I arrived home from work.) When he called about a week later to say that he had the estimate, I questioned him as to how he could give me an estimate without actually getting up on the roof and looking at the chimney and the area around it. I compared it to a person going to an emergency department with abdominal pain and the physician, without doing a physical examination or ordering an x-ray, tells them that they need their appendix removed. I could tell that he was not pleased with my questioning him and he replied that he had been doing this for seven years and that he can get an idea as to what needs to be done on a job just by looking at it. Needless to say, I called another company for an estimate and the gentleman who came out got up on the roof, took pictures, came down to show me that it was exactly as I suspected and fixed the problem right then and there by re-nailing and re-caulking the flashing all at $250.00, a huge savings, when Brad Smith Roofing gave me an estimate in the area of $1,300.00 (with a $100.00 Angie's list discount) to pull off and replace shingles, put down plywood, add new flashing or have the chimney rebuilt from the roof up for about the same amount.

We have a very steep roof and it is a very big job. Brad Smith is very knowledgeable. He also showed my daughter what he would be doing and explained everything very well. My experience has been good so far. My daughter called their office and talked with someone in the office. A guy from the company came out later on and was complaining on when they would be doing the work. We are also getting a discount, as we got to know them through a consumer review company.
Description of Work: Brad Smith Roofing gave us an estimate in the last week for the roofing work.
