They were excellent, did everything very well, cleaned up, and were timely. However they did leave some of their supplies in the back yard over the weekend, and we had to call to have them come pick them up.

However, I was glad that I took the time to cover my bathroom with plastic sheeting and took down the lighting fixtures because all of that debris from the taking out the old skylight and putting in the new one came down into the bathroom. All I had to do was roll up the plastic and throw it away. They were delightful and even followed up with a phone call to make sure I was happy with everything. I was very impressed. Also, I made the call approximately in late September and they ensured that the work would be done before winter.
Description of Work: They were wonderful. They replaced a bad skylight that was leaking. As far as getting the Velux skylight, they were the cheapest. They guy that came out, explained everything that happened. He also told the crew to repair the exhaust pipe for the bathrooms that comes out of the roof. He also brought out roofing swatches to match perfectly with the 17 year old shingles.

I am leaving this review now because we recently joined Angie's List. We received 3 quotes for our roof replacement. 1 never came back to give estimate, 1 was way too overpriced and the last was Brad Smith Roofing. Our whole experience was excellent. They were not the cheapest, but as they say, you get what you pay for. They had the best selection of shingles and even gave us addresses of where the shingles had been installed in our area so we could drive-by and see them. The Gutters and downspouts came in different colors so we could match the house. They also had a product we chose that installed behind the gutters for increased ventilation. We also got the screens that go on top of the gutters for less cleaning. The crew arrived as scheduled. It was an army of workers! They completely covered all our windows with boards for protection and layed down tarps to catch nails and debris. The whole tear-off and re-roof was completed in 1 day. All of our neighbors were amazed. They cleaned-up thoroughly and used a magnet for any loose nails. A separate crew came in a couple days to install the gutters and downspouts. An excellent experience. Thank You.
Description of Work: Tear-off of 2 shingle layers, replaced gutters, replaced downspouts, installed under-gutter venting.

He is our permanent roofer. We just call him up on his home line and he responds in his own time unless it is an emergency. We have him at least twice a year in making sure all his work is well. He is always upfront with us. When we call him he responds. I haven’t had any problems and if I had he has come back and taken care of it. When he says he is coming he is usually here.

Could not have been a better experience. A whole tear off and replace in a day and a half. The crew left the yard spotless afterwards. Concerned with attic ventilation, Josh the salesmen was the only contractor who proposed an "inhaler vent". This goes behind the gutter and is a great solution. Why the other contractors didn't suggest it, I don't know. This is a great company and thoroughly professional.

After the contract was signed and we gave them the deposit, it took almost two months for the work to start. I know the weather likely played a factor in this. Once the work was started everything went fine except for one area where a ladder caused some damage to the roof. They were happy to come back and fix the problem. The salesman was very nice. I would recommend them to others.

The work wasn't done quite as promptly as I would have liked, but much of this was out of the contractor's hands: 1) there were a number of homes in my area affected by this storm, and 2) the rain continued to come for a few days after the storm. Hard for them to work, but also hard for us since there was water dripping from our ceiling. All in all, I felt that they came out and did the work in a reasonable period of time. The price was a little hard to swallow and based on my past experience was not the most competitive. There was no itemized breakdown of the estimate costs, and the price was given only after I had mentioned that I had an Angie's List coupon. However, there were few providers in my area willing or able to do the work, and I needed to get the hole in my roof patched. All in all, I had a good experience with Brad Smith Roofing and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Brad Smith Roofing (BSR) came to my house and provided an estimate, then replaced a section of roofing where the shingles had blown off in a bad storm. Josh Rees worked with me to provide an estimate, and also to troubleshoot the fact that my builder had used shingles that were no longer manufactured at the time of BSR's service. I had to contact my homeowner's association to ensure that they had no objection to replacing the shingles with a slightly different color. They didn't, and the work was done.

The whole process went very smothly from getting an estimate of cost, scheduling of work and installation of roofing. I received the estimate, on August 31, 2010, which was below the insurance companys estimate. Because of their workload I had them delay the work until spring of 2012 as I did not want to install in the winter and it was not an emergency situation. They called late February to schedule the work for Friday March 9th. The workmen arrived around 8:30am and went right to work, first protecting the house and yard with tarps and plywood. I have seen lots of roofing work but never have I seen such measures taken to protect ones property. My house and yard were awash with blue tarps hanging on the house and laying in the yard to protect everything from falling debris. They even laid some plywood on the soggy grass to protect it. By around 10:30am they were finished with the tear off. They had to replace some wood which they had to order that day. Once the wood arrived and was instaled they began to do the roofing. By 6:00pm they were finished and on their way back to the office. They took extra care to make sure all debris was picked up going over the yard with magnets to make sure nails were picked up as I have 3 dogs. As a last measure all the workmen walked the yard picking up cigarette butts and any other debris that was missed. I can't say enough about their professionalism and how fast they worked. I have dome some roofing and know it isn't an easy job plus I wouldn't do 2 story work for anything. 10/1/2012 I had an issue with one of the vents not venting properly (bathroom was steaming up during showers). I called them in May and reported the issue, the salesman came out and checked the vents. He agreed that the vent in question wasn't venting as much air as the other vent even though he problem vent was located much closer to the exhaust fan. He went into the atic crawl space and noted that the vent pipe wasn't properly connected the the vent fan. He said he would have someone come out to fix the problem. Still waiting for the repair. I will call again to see when someone will be out.
Description of Work: I have a two story house with lots of roof area. Complete replacement of roofing due to hail damage on my house and shed. Including complete tear off of old, install new shingles, ice guard, valleys, ridge vents and 2 new exterior vents from the upstairs bathrooms which were formerly vented into the attic. They also performed some minor gutter work I wanted done.

They were excellent. They were so backed up that they finished the job by October. We got it paid for through our insurance. They worked really well with the insurance company. The product looks really great. They offered solutions to some water problems we had, and we got gutters through them as well. The only drawback that I would say is that took a couple of weeks after the roof was put on to get the gutters done. I wish they would have told us that upfront, but all in all it was very good. Their pricing was a little high, but we didn’t have to pay for it so it worked out great. It was a really hard year for them and they were overwhelmed with requests because of sale damage in May.

Josh Rees came out to give me an estimate on the roof. He took his time checking out the roof and talking to me about what was needed and the best approach to get the job done. I was happy with the answers to all of my questions. There was a delay doing the work because of all the wet weather. But they were able to do the roof in December when there was a break in the weather. They worked quickly and efficiently and were able to finish the work in a couple of days. The men were careful with the debris from the roof and did no damage to our landscaping and patio. They were courteous and stopped to answer any questions that we had as the work progressed. We were very pleased with the work and love how nice the roof looks on our house.
Description of Work: Our old roof was torn off and replaced with a new shingle roof. Old vents and an attic fan were removed and replaced with a ridge vent. An ice and water shield membrane was installed under the shingles. A damper vent was installed for the upstairs bathroom ceiling fan.

Big storm came thru in May followed by a flock of Storm chasers. Fought them off & decided to use B.Smith Roofing due to word of mouth advice. Boy am I glad I did. Our neighbors used one of the out-of-state storm chasers & have had to contact the Out-of-state company to fix issues with leakage, poor gutter re-installation & other items. That company has not been responsive. All Brad's guys (mostly named "Josh" for some odd reason) were great, personable & knowledgable. When we did have a separate issue post install, they came out quickly & reviewed & gave a fair price for high-wire carpentry. Would highly recommend to anyone in NE OH.

I've already told you. They never returned one of my two phone calls. That is the story.
Description of Work: I called them for a roof repair on my home and garage. And my business. They never called back. Their office is on the North Marginal Road on I90 West, so I have known of them before Angie's list. I was surprised no one called back. My home is on the West side and my office has a flat roof also on the West side. So, I thought, "Great, not too big and not just one bundle of shingles, so maybe they'd be intterested." No return call. I'm not complaining, per se. Maybe I just got lost in the shuffle of big jobs. Or, the person who took the call lost the sheet. It happens. I had someone else do it. This was back in the early Autumn, or late Summer.

I think they paid attention to details. They advised us along the way to do some things that also needed to be done apart from what we agreed with. They are on Angie’s List. I found out about them through word of mouth. I chose them based on a referral from a friend. My experience with them was wonderful. They showed up on time and they got it done in a timely manner. They cleaned up and they came back when I had some questions about it later on. It was great service. It cost me about $25000 for their services. They weren’t the cheapest, but they were probably the best. I really can’t complain because they did a great job and they stood behind it. It was expensive, but it was worth it. I would definitely use their services in the future too.

The employee who gave the estimate was very professional, attempted to teach me about how things would work, had examples in the car, and he actually went on the roof to give me the estimate. However, he had to put the estimate together back at the office which took a few days. He tried to sell me a ridge vent/intake vent system, but when I got a second estimate, that provider told me that the footprint of my house wouldn't allow for that because the intake and exhaust would not be even. I tried to get the guy from Brad Smith to email me the website with the info behind the product, which he wouldn't do. He finally reached me by phone, and was very obstinate, then finally told me the website, www.airvent. I entered the dimensions of my house as well as the roof pitch, and it said that i wouldn't have enough intake to support that type of ventilation system. I reached out again, to ask how much of the estimate was due to masonry repair and my chimney, since the other roofers didn't often provide that, and it made it difficult to compare. I couldn't get a straight answer, but he did split out for me exactly what the work was that he suggested (10 layers of brick, tuckpoints, new caps, etc). All in all, it seemed like this was the Cadillac solution, but a Cadillac wouldn't have fit in the garage!
Description of Work: I received an estimate for a complete roof replacement. It included tear-off, new gutters, replacing 10 rows of my chimney as well as caps, complete ventilation, and some shingles so that the front of my garage should match. The estimate was for almost $7,000 for a house with a footprint of less than 30x30.

On 10/27/10 we contacted Brad Smith Roofing to see about replacing our roof which had hail damage and was leaking. It took them till 3/30/11 to check the roof for hail damage, to get together with our insurance adjuster, make an estimate (about $15,000) and prepare a contract. We were told that the work would be done in the Spring. Before we signed the contract we told Brad Smith's representative, Josh Rees, that we had a hostile neighbor and that she would not allow ladders on her land. Josh assured us that the job could be done entirely on our property and that he was used to dealing with difficult neighbors, that it was part of his job. So we signed the contract on 3/30/11. Job was postponed several times because of rain delays and other jobs taking longer than expected. Meghan Smith of Brad Smith promised that someone would patch the leak in our roof since the job was being delayed. This never was done. The work date was finally set for 10/10/11. The roofing supplies were delivered, and a new project manager appeared on the job, replacing Josh Rees. The new manager, Stan something, disagreed with Josh and said that they would need to access the roof from the neighbor's driveway and would need her permission. We asked for Josh to be put back on the job. He said that they would need to enter the neighbor's property to clean up debris that might blow onto her property. The neighbor continued to withhold her permission. We went to the City of Lakewood and got copies of ordinances and an application for a permit giving us the right to enter the neighbor's property in order to fix our roof. Josh Rees says he got the impression from the Building Commissioner that even with a permit, our neighbor could throw the roofers off her land. But this is not what the ordinance says. We talked to the Building Commissioner and the Assistant Prosecutor, the final authority on the matter, and got their assurance that we could proceed, that we had the right to do this, that the police would be informed of our right and that the neighbor could not stop the work. We have this verbally and in an email. On 11/1/11 Josh told us that Brad Smith Roofers will not do the job without our neighbor's signing off on something allowing them to use her property. This is an impossible condition. Why should she sign anything? We have not been able to get the neighbor to agree to anything despite phone calls, emails and face-to-face talks. We are now asking Brad Smith and to return our $4,996.86 deposit and to pick up the materials they left in our driveway . They want to charge us administrative, processing and re-stocking fees. We feel that they have not honored their original agreement., have not taken the trouble to fully understand our legal rights of access and have never patched our leak , which is the least they could have done. They have taken over a year to figure out that they don't want to do this job. Our roof is leaking. The plaster is falling in our bedroom. They have caused us a year's worth of delay and water damage. They stalled and stalled for many months on replacing the roof and now they are stalling on returning our money. On 11/9/11 Stacey Kitchen, Office Manager, said that if we would sign a "hold harmless" clause promising not to hold them liable for any damage to our roof, not to sue for penalties, fines, etc., if we would sign off on their liability for any damages to our driveway or house that might occur when they picked up the roofing materials they had stacked in our driveway, they would pick up the materials and return our money (minus whatever they decide to charge us for damages from the way the materials had been stacked and transported.) They have breached the contract, have not done the work promised, and have not returned our deposit. We want Brad Smith to arrange a time to pick up their supplies (using the same kind of fork-lift that they used to deliver them and not a crane.) And before they carry the materials away, we want our full deposit returned with a bank check made payable to us. We did not sign a "hold harmless" clause at the beginning of this unfortunate project, and we do not plan to sign one at the end.
Description of Work: On 10/10/11 roofing materials were delivered and piled in our driveway in front of our garage. (They were piled in such a way that heavy materials on the top of the pile caused collapse of materials on the bottom of the pile.)

Pros: Friendly staff, cleaned up the jobsite, and the final product looks terrific Cons: 1. small work crew that works 8-4ish. So, expect your roof to take multiple days, especially if there are weather delays. I noticed that many homeowners in our neighborhoold went with different roofers with larger crews and the jobs were complete in about 1 day. We had two men assigned and the job took 4 days total, which included one day lost due to bad weather. 2. The roof was not properly covered at night to prevent rain damage to the interior ceilings. As a result, the ceiling in 4 rooms was damaged. Although they agreed to repair the damage, IT TOOK OVER 3 MONTHS TO SEND OUT A PAINTER!! 3. Because I withheld payment until my ceilings were repaired, I almost had a lien placed on my house. I only found out about the impending lien because I had proactively called the accounting department to make sure they were aware of my situation.

They said they were swamped and it could take months to repair. However, I knew that wasn't the case. They didn't have the courtesy to say they wouldn't service the western part of Cleveland. They never showed up and wouldn't come to our area. I was not treated professionaly. The neww roof seemed fine, however, within a few weeks the skylights started to leak; we never had this problem before the new roof. When I called Brad Smith Roofing, they felt this was not their problem. They, reluctantly, agreed to come out and take a look at the skylights; the additional cost was $900. After much discussion about their role in this problem, , they agreed to split the cost with me. Several months later, the skylights began to leak again. After several unreturned calls they agreed to come out and take a look at this; now the cost was going to be an additional $3,000. If you are looking for a company that will stand behind their work, this is not the company.

During a new roof process, it is part of our contract normally to replace skylight flashings as it was for this homeowner. Every home being unique can cause unforeseen details until the roof is removed. When we removed the roof at this home, we recommended that the homeowner replace the skylights that were now known to be over 20 years old. The homeowner did not choose to do anything at that time. When the skylights leaked we resealed them at no cost. Brad Smith then reviewed the leak again with the homeowner months later. Brad Smith Roofing again suggested to the homeowner that he replace the skylights and gave him a proposal. It's been over a year since then, and this review is the first we have heard from him. It is a surprise to hear that this customer was unhappy at all because he made a comment to Brad Smith that it was a pleasure to work with us, that we always returned his calls and that he would recommend Brad Smith Roofing to everybody!
