Called Charter Oak and they sent out Javin promptly. He arrived on time and was very thorough in going over the job. I originally wanted to trim the trees, but Javin noticed I had signs of the Emerald Ash Borer. He also informed me that one main trunk of the Birch was dead. Javin gave me options and pricing to either just trim the trees, treat the Ash, remove the Ash, trim the Birch or remove the Birch. He also gave me a discount for removing both trees. With the uncertainty of treating the Emerald Ash Borer, I felt the best decision was to remove the Ash. With the Birch also showing damage, I decided to remove it. I felt the price to remove and grind the stumps for both trees was very fair. Jordan and his helper came out and removed both trees. Jordan took great care in removing the bigger Ash as there was no damage to my house or to my neighbor's car that was parked in his drive way. Jordan appeared to me as very experienced in removing trees. I had asked for them to cut the Ash into firewood for our fireplace and they did that and neatly stacked the firewood. Two days later they came out and grinned the two stumps. I was very happy with the job and with the price and have recommended them to my friends and co-workers.

The weather was challenging causing changes in service dates. The crews were professional, capable, and worked swiftly.

These guys did a really good job. They are responsive and professional. I had two trees removed and several stumps. The tree removal crew came and they were careful and cleaned up! Then the stump removal took place a week later. They were able to figure out how to get the stump grinder in my backyard without damaging my downspouts. All around it was a pleasant easy process.

They came the first day to take down the tree no damage to lawn or house ,then a couple days later to grind down the stump. The scheduler had explained that they would be leaving the stump grindings in a pile. They were also careful to care for Hostas that were at the base of the tree though I had not told them I cared if they were preserved those plants, service above what was expected.

They used a crane to remove the trees. They went over the roof of my house. Then they lowered a man down, cut the tree in sections and lifted it over the house. So, they took it away that way. It was great. A lot of people say that the electric service has to be taken out because the branches would hit it and they also say that they have to make holes in the back lawn, but Charter Oaks said they wouldn’t do all those things. They said that they would use a crane and go down about 10 feet and cut it. They had good equipment with professional staff. They took one tree from the front of our house and two trees from the back of our house. They used the crane for all of them. My neighbor came out and asked them as to what was the charge for a pine tree. So, the tree service guy said that he would take it down. Then he went next door with the crane, cut that thing and took it down in three pieces. It looked like a big Christmas tree lifted up in the air and laid it down. They also ground up about a foot and a half wide right on the spot. Then they laid the others in the back of their big truck and took it away. It was quick, professional and the price was right. They charged me about $1700 for their service. They did a good job. They gave me an estimate first, which was very competitive compared to the 7 estimates that I got. The guy who came out for the stump grinding was very careful. He ground the stumps and covered them back.

Phil came out the next day after I called to give me an estimate about removing a large locust. He was very professional and answered any question I had. I called back on Friday July 29th to schedule the work, I was told it would be about a week before they could get out. But on Monday morning 8/1/2011 they were here to cut down the tree. The tree was in between my house and power lines so I was a little concerned, but they had no problem at all.

Tree trimmers were great: kept the shade, took out the dead stuff. Got all but one small tree out. Removed stumps they could get to in front yard. Did not remove stumps in back yard because they couldn't get the stump grinder through the gate in the fence--refunded cost of that from final bill and without any trouble. I hired a firm with a smaller stump grinder. Would hire again for tree service without a second thought.

Phil Mallory left a quote for the removal of the two pear trees in April, but I later asked to have the crabapple removed as well. I also wanted the crabapple replaced with another pink crabapple in the place where the first crabapple had been. Apparently they did not keep all this information together. In the middle of July, they came, ground two stumps, and placed a crabapple in the place of one of the removed pears. When I called, they first said they would take care of it right away. I then received four quite unpleasant calls from the female owner, in which she was apparently unaware that the first crabapple had been removed, and "wanted to know just where to put the crabapple." When I explained that I wanted it in the place where the old crabapple had been, she said that they had removed "the old crabapple years ago". She was clearly unaware of what had gone on. However, they did come the next day and put the new crabapple in the proper place. I used to think very highly of this company's tree service, but something has gone awry in the last few years.

He provided me with a nice report. He told me exactly what it was going to cost. He also said that if I decided to go with them they would give me a flat rate.

I called four companies for quotes and Charter Oaks responded quickly and with the best quote. Their pricing was significantly less than the other companies I contacted for the same work. They did a great job and cleaned up after themselves. Overall, we were very happy with the work.

I am going to get some other estimates to do some comparisons. He was very informative and provided extra information on which trees have been infected since there is no use in treating those that have been. He seemed to be trying to give me a pretty good estimate to take 3 trees down and treat the trees left.

Not sure of the exact date of quote. Very prompt in providing an estimate. When I called to confirm that we wanted the work done and was very satisfied with the price, asked to speak with the estimator to find out what he thought was the cause of disease affecting the shrubs. We never heard from them again.

I called three companies for quotes and Charter Oaks responded quickly and with the best quote of the three. They called a couple days ahead of when they were planning to do the work, which was nice, and said I did not have to be there when it was done... that they would just leave an invoice in the door. I was home when they came (late on a Friday afternoon) and was a bit concerned that they might rush through the job since it was nearly the weekend. They got right to work and had the silver maple trimmed back and the redbud pruned in no time at all -- but were careful to ask before removing a couple larger branches on the silver maple to be sure it was OK (one I agreed to have them do, the other I asked them to leave on the tree). When they went to work on taking down the front yard tree, I had to leave (my daughter was crying because they were cutting down her favorite climbing tree), so I didn't know what to expect upon my return. They did an excellent job, cutting the stump nearly level with the ground and cleaning up all the debris very well. I would definitely use them again. My only compaint (and it's not a big one) is they did not do a great job of cleaning up debris from pruning the redbud. There were several mid-size branches left in the yard and around the base of the tree... and my husband felt they trimmed back that tree a little too much. But overall we were very happy. And their pricing was FAR better than the other two companies I contacted for the same work... nearly 1/3 less! I'll pick up a few sticks in the yard for that price.

This work required less than 2 hours to complete and was completed professionally.

Very professional. Made sure I was happy with the locust trimming before they left and they cleaned up the yard and removed several branches that had fallen with the ice storm.

I have had their services previously and very pleased. This time not so. the workers did not have interest in doing the job . I had to watch and tell them or they would have not completed the job.

It was a huge amount of work for a good price. They cleaned the landscape around the house, took down some small trees and brought a pretty good size equipment to trim two huge trees from bottom to top. They did a good job.

I contacted Charter Oaks to remove a Locust tree in my back yard, take away all debris, grind stump and remove rotting fire wood. One of the owners came within one week to estimate. I accepted their bid and they came one week later to do the work. (They ground out the stump a few days after taking the tree down.) They had a 3-man crew who were very professional, safe and very efficient. My tree was between my house and my neighbor's and had grown too large for the area. They were extremely careful lifting pieces of the tree over my house with their crane, out to the street to put into their chipper. (My neighbors were impressed.) There was no damage, clean up was good and they did it quickly. I had them take a tree down on my parent's property two weeks after that and they did another excellent job. I will definitely use them in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Another positive experience with Charter Oaks. They completed the job in a timely fashion as they had explained. Office staff was helpful and pleasant.

The tree trimming went well, however, there were many cut off branches that remained in the tree that we had to clean up later that week. The grinding of the stumps was something we waited about two weeks for. This was interesting because we got the invoice saying our bill should be paid in full 10 days after the bushes were cut, even though the grinding of the stumps did not occur until two weeks later. There were some stumps that were not done in that process, either missed or not done because they were too close to the house (which the estimator should have realized and told us could not be done). On the original job description, we had contracted to have the hostas removed for replanting, and to get them out of the way for the removal work. They were never removed and took quite a beating from the feet and machinery involved. We were very disappointed in Charter Oaks this time. We had used them before for similar things and will never use them again.

Phil (the owner) stopped by to give an estimate which turned out to be very reasonable. When I asked for an estimate for a large stump on my neighbor's property, I mentioned that the owner had a very serious illness and was in the hospital at the time. Without hesitation Phil said "Those people have enough to worry about; we'll do that one for free when we take out your stumps." And so they did. The crew arrived, on time, and went right to work. The job was done quickly and thoroughly, and they cleaned up the area afterward. I can't say enough good things about Charter Oaks. I highly recommend them.

The crew did a great job. The carefully removed the portion of the tree that was resting on our house, and as a result, we didn't have any further damage. Another portion of this large tree extended over out neighbors lot and threatened their fence and landscaping. Using a large crane they were able to remove portions of the tree in pieces, and avoided any damage to our neighbors property too. They did a very professional job, and the their clean up was exceptional.

Great service, great price for the job

Everything went very well. I had a total of ~5 quotes to remove that tree. They were by far the lowest quote (less than half of the highest quote). Complete haulaway and stumpdigging. The work was delayed (Hurricane Ike) but it wasn't their fault. They came and did my tree just as soon as they could. They took the stump out like they said, and for no extra charge, they took out the wood that was good for firewood and cut it up for me so I could use it. Good quality work!

They are outstanding. They are reliable, show up on time and are great. I have used them for numerous years.
