If you are familiar with any of our advertising you know that these words are at the end of each and every one of our ads. But these eight words are more than just a slogan at CARE Heating and Cooling. They are our motto and the basis of our business philosophy, and the way we want to be remembered by you at the end of the day. From the beginning I wanted CARE be a different kind of company. After spending many years working for other heating and cooling companies, I became alarmed by the trends I was seeing in the residential heating and cooling industry. “Increase sales”, “raise your prices” and “make every employee a sales person” became the operating statements of many companies, leading to the biggest fraud of all: paying service technicians to sell replacement furnaces and air conditioners. In the 1980s a major manufacturer began to promote to its dealers a unique sales technique – have service technicians sell replacements. The rationale was that a service technician had the inherent trust of the consumer. If a repair was needed a service technician had ability to take advantage of that trust and offer to install a replacement system. This provided an immediate solution to an immediate problem that would lock out any competition, result in a much higher than normal selling price and much higher profits. Because companies make more money, a lot more in fact, selling you a new system rather than fixing the one you own this approach was widely adopted over the next couple of decades. To generate even more sales and profits many companies today apply a lot of pressure to service technicians to sell even more. Several local companies’ guidelines state specifically that a consumer is to be advised to replace their furnace if a repair, even a minor one, is needed whenever a furnace or air conditioner is over 10 years old. They set goals for their service technicians to turn at least 1 in 10 service calls into sales leads and pay them a commission when a unit is sold. Service technicians can also get caught up in the quest for more money, with some diagnosing problems that may not actually exist just to earn a commission. This is how “cat toys in furnaces” and “chipmunks with attitudes and power drills” became major problems. So what makes CARE Heating and Cooling different? It is my philosophy that we are in business not only to get new customers, but more importantly to keep them. Never will anyone in the service department profit by recommending to a consumer to replace their furnace or air conditioner. Not only do we offer free second opinions for a diagnosis of a bad compressor or heat exchanger, we will often second opinion ourselves when condemning equipment to be sure we have not made a mistake. My a/c stopped working on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I called Care Heating and Cooling first thing on Tuesday morning, and they said they had a full schedule, but if I was flexible they could have someone come out the same day. I was grateful when they called just before 11am to say a tech was on his way. The problem was diagnosed and repaired in about 15 minutes. The tech was pleasant and professional, but I did have to ask questions to understand the problem and repair. I was offered a service contract for $219. per year. I was a little taken aback at the price of it. It was explained to me to cover the service call price of $79 for the current visit and any visits for the coming year. I questioned the tech on this saying that I would have to have them out 2 more times in the year to have it pay for itself. He agreed that this was correct. I didn't see the value in that. If the contract had also given you a discount on the services, maybe that would make it worthwhile.

Their ads on 610 am radio are spot on, where they claim they do not push a new unit on you if you don't need one. We have a 1976 York, every HVAC company I had called previously encourage replacement. Meanwhile, it has worked like a champ for seven years without a problem until this year, and that was a simple part replacement. He said the blower wheel was slightly out of balance, but other than that, no problems. Other companies would lie and say that the unit "must" be replaced before it gives out under extreme weather. I was told that seven years ago, and we haven't suffered in winter or summer yet! A couple of years ago, a duct-cleaning company (Whempy's) told me to hang onto the 1976 unit as long as possilble - the new ones only last an average of ten years. Considering I haven't had the old York unit serviced since 2000, I would have to think he's right. That old thing is a workhorse, made back when American manufacturing still took pride in itself! Anyway, I signed an annual service contract for $200 per year with Care because I want to heed Whempy's advice and keep this York as long as possible. It may not be the most efficient unit out there, but I suspect that a new unit would give out before the energy savings paid for themselves. I applaud Care's honesty and professionalism, plus it's in amazing testament to the York company. My ex-wife's grandfather worked there most of his life, he would be proud.
Description of Work: Outside condenser unit stopped working. The service tech diagnosed the problem in ten minutes, he replaced the hard-start capacitor and it started working immediately. He gave the entire unit a checkup and tune-up as well.

Great experience. They were able to come the day after I called, were on time, worked efficiently, and gave us great service. Price was very reasonable too.
Description of Work: Evaluated our air conditioner, which was not running properly. Identified the problem quickly and offered to set us up with a service agreement at $189 per year which included the immediate repair of the AC unit.

We were well pleased. We had a little miscommunication. We misunderstood how the sensor functioned and there was a lot of back and forth for a while. Finally the service manager came out and explained it all to us. It makes a lot of noise but its fine.

I called for service before 7:30 a.m. hoping to get someone first thing. They immediately scheduled for early afternoon same day. This was an extremely cold day just before Christmas and I had to have it fixed that day because I was leaving for a two week vacation the next morning. They called prior to showing up and repaired the problem in less than a half hour. It needed cleaning and a new thermocouple. They honored a coupon discount from Angie's List website I had printed off as well. I'm sure this was a small job but they took care of my problem in a timely manner and everything is still fine since I returned from vacation.

He was pretty good as far as his work. It wasn't exactly what I expected. I wanted him to try to start the furnace, but he said it was fine. They had a ten dollar off coupon and I forgot about it and I never did get the discount.
Description of Work: He came in the house and monitored how much air flow was coming through, and observed the different temperatures of the rooms in my home. He checked the compressor unit and cleaned it off. Then he checked the pressure of the freon.

THE RATING AND TIMING OF THIS REPORT BAFFLE ME. THE SERVICE CALL IN QUESTION WAS RUN ON AUGUST 1, 2008 AND THAT IS THE ONLY TIME WE HAVE DONE WORK FOR HIM. CHECKING WEATHER DATA IT WAS 90 DEGREES THAT DAY. THE SERVICE TICKET SAYS THE MEMBER CALLED US BECAUSE "THE AIR CONDITIONER WILL NOT KEEP UP" AND SAID NOTHING ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH THE FURNACE. AFTER GOING OVER THE SYSTEM OUR TECHNICIAN FOUND THE COIL ON THE AIR CONDITIONER OUTSIDE WAS VERY DIRTY. HE WASHED IT OFF USING COIL CLEANER THEN CHECKED THE SYSTEM AND FOUND THAT ONCE THE COIL WAS CLEAN EVERYTHING OPPERATED PROPERLY AND RECORDED THE RESULTS. OTHER THEN SOLVING THIS PROBLEM I AM NOT SURE WHAT ELSE WE COULD HAVE DONE. My experience was mediocre at best. I expected better. I expected them to get it done the first time, but they had to come back. This is the second time this has happened with this company. I think they try hard, they do follow up and take care of things, they also try to make things right.

I APPRICIATE THE MEMBER'S COMMENTS ABOUT TRYING HARD, WE DO! AND WE DO TRY TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT. BUT I AM DISMAYED ABOUT THE COMMENTS REGARDING HAVING TO COME BACK ON A PROBLEM AND HIS GRADE ON OUR PRICE AND QUALITY. THE UNIT IN QUESTION IS AT A RENTAL PROPERTY HE OWNS. WE WERE OUT ON 9/17 AND FOUND A BAD THERMOSTAT IN THE HOUSE AND A BAD START/RUN CAPACITOR ON THE AIR CONDITIONER. WE REPLACED BOTH AND THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS RUNNING FINE WHEN MY SERVICE TECH LEFT. THE NEXT DAY THE HE CALLED TO SAY THE AIR WAS NOT WORKING AGAIN. WE WENT BACK AND FOUND THE BLOWER MOTOR ON THE FURNACE HAD FAILED. THIS WAS A COMPLETELY SEPARATE PROBLEM! THE MOTOR WAS REPLACED ON ANOTHER TRIP AND EVERYTHING WORKED AS IT SHOULD FOR 3 DAYS. WE THEN RECEIVED ANOTHER CALL THAT THE UNIT HAD QUIT COOLING. ONCE MORE WE DISPATCHED A TECHNICIAN AND FOUND THAT A LOW VOLTAGE WIRE HAD COME LOOSE FROM A TERMINAL IN THE FURNACE. AT NO TIME DID WE EVER TOUCH THAT WIRE DURING THE PREVIOUS VISITS. WE FIXED THE UNIT AND SPENT 45 MINUTES GOING OVER EACH CONNECTION AT NO CHARGE. THE MEMBERS TOTAL BILL WAS $666.00, OF WHICH $189.00 WAS FOR A MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT, SO THE TOTAL CHARGE FOR A NEW THERMOSTAT, START/RUN CAPACITOR, BLOWER MOTOR AND 4 TRIPS WAS $477.00. THIS IS WHAT MANY COMPANIES WOULD CHARGE FOR A BLOWER MOTOR ALONE!

I think they did an excellent job. There was no high pressure sales, they gave me some choices to try to keep costs down just like any good business should do. I didn't have any problems trying to get a hold of the people. Mark Baker was the man I worked with and I would definitely highly recommend him and the company. I really expected to pay more and I feel like I got my money worth. They said they would be there at 8:30 and they were. They were suppose to leave at 4:30 but there were a few unanticipated problems and they weren't able to leave until 6:30. They do a great job though.

I had called 3 other companies in the days after my furnace had stopped working. Each time I was told that someone would call me back ASAP. No one ever did. I called Care based on the ratings from Angie's List. The woman who answered the phone was very pleasant and promised to put me on the wait list for the day. I was skeptical due to the previous experiences I'd just had with callbacks. However, she called me back within an hour and said the technician was on his way. He was here 10 minutes later. He fixed the gas pressure, which had caused the unit to shut off, cleaned the parts and did a general check and tune up of the furnace. He was quick, professional and just generally a nice guy. I was charged the price I had been quoted on the phone for the technician visit and diagnosis. I have an A/C unit that isn't working and I plan to have Care come out in the spring to fix that as well. It was a great experience and I would absolutely recommend them.

Sales Representative Mark Baker, made the sales presentation very understandable, but not too technical compared to the other nine sales presentations from other heating companies. The installer's ("aka" Jim & Mike), did a good job in a timely manner. The work was paid for at that time (9-25-08). While awaiting a "Final Inspection", from the City of Columbus, HVAC permit division, I was watching a TV promotional advertisement from The Lennox Heating & Cooling Manufacturer. The promotional ad stated that Lennox was giving up to $1000 rebate on their heating & cooling equipment. I called Mr. Mark Baker, about this promotional rebate. He stated to me that the owner of "Care Heating & Cooling," does not participate in the Lennox rebate program. He went on to state that the reason is very simple; the dealer who does participate in the rebate promotion must pass on the the customer the dealer's cost for the promotion. He (Mr. Baker), also stated that he has always quoted his prices lower than any other Lennox dealer's in this area who do participate in the rebate promotion. I called Lennox, they stated to me that Care Heating & Cooling is not a "participating dealer", in this rebate promotion. However, if they would have been a "participating dealer, I would have received somewhere between a $500 to $700 rebate from Lennox. The "Final Inspection" was performed by the City of Columbus, on 10/29/08, & passed the inspection with no problems.
Description of Work: Removed existing Rheem Heating & Cooling System (22 Years Old), and replaced it with a new Lennox Heating & Cooling System.

Our furnace was 21 years old and our heating bills last year were over $400 in the coldest months. We had three estimates to replace our furnace and humidifier. All were between $3400 to $5700. We choose Care because their estimator did not pressure us, was knowledgeable about the different systems available, and was thorough. He found two heating ducts without end caps in the crawl space that no one else found. These were given modified end caps when the furnace was installed. Installation went quickly and everything was completely cleaned up. Our heat is even now, and we are looking forward to lower gas bills.

We had CARE install a new furnace for us several years ago. They were not only the cheapest, but the most pleasant to work with. On this occasion, the furnace was not working correctly. They came out and did an inspection, and found the problem quickly. There was no extra charge for fixing the problem. They are always very quick, and often times the owner answers the phone.

They offer really great service. I have my maintenance contract through them. They are very efficient and don't try to sell you anything you don't need.
Description of Work: My air conditioner wasn't cooling, so they came out the next morning and checked it. They realized it needed a new capacitor, so they replaced it. They also did a maintenance check for any other problems. They also cleaned out the unit.

My AC unit had a leak in the evaporator coil and hot weather was coming. Rather than fix it I opted to replace the entire system due to its age and to get some peace of mind from a warranty. I researched several companies for estimates to do the work and CARE S pricing was in line with everyone else. I have been happy with our Lennox furnace (only required service two times in 16 years) and decided to replace it with the same brand. I took a chance and chose CARE based on their service reputation. Mark Baker came to our house and provided the estimate. I wanted to have the water heater replaced and only mentioned that we would need to get that done. Mark made a phone call and included that work in the estimate. The install day came and everything went Very Well! The two technicians arrived promptly and completed all work in about six hours. They cleaned up and then took the time to explain the functions of my new system.
Description of Work: We had a 16 year old Lennox furnace replaced with: 92% efficient Elite Series gas furnace Bypass Humidifier Media Air Cleaner. They also replaced our 40 gallon gas water heater with a new 50 gallon.

They were great to work with at every step of the process. From the tech that came out to inspect the unit, the salesman, and the installers they were very thorough and explained everything I needed to know. I had a great experience and will use CARE HEATING & COOLING again when needed.
Description of Work: On the 4th of July my A/C was freezing up, with ice on it. On the 5th, a Saturday, I called Care HVAC, someone answered the phone and set up an appointment. They were out that next Monday to inspect everything and determined I needed a new HVAC unit. 5 days later I had a new system.
