If you are familiar with any of our advertising you know that these words are at the end of each and every one of our ads. But these eight words are more than just a slogan at CARE Heating and Cooling. They are our motto and the basis of our business philosophy, and the way we want to be remembered by you at the end of the day. From the beginning I wanted CARE be a different kind of company. After spending many years working for other heating and cooling companies, I became alarmed by the trends I was seeing in the residential heating and cooling industry. “Increase sales”, “raise your prices” and “make every employee a sales person” became the operating statements of many companies, leading to the biggest fraud of all: paying service technicians to sell replacement furnaces and air conditioners. In the 1980s a major manufacturer began to promote to its dealers a unique sales technique – have service technicians sell replacements. The rationale was that a service technician had the inherent trust of the consumer. If a repair was needed a service technician had ability to take advantage of that trust and offer to install a replacement system. This provided an immediate solution to an immediate problem that would lock out any competition, result in a much higher than normal selling price and much higher profits. Because companies make more money, a lot more in fact, selling you a new system rather than fixing the one you own this approach was widely adopted over the next couple of decades. To generate even more sales and profits many companies today apply a lot of pressure to service technicians to sell even more. Several local companies’ guidelines state specifically that a consumer is to be advised to replace their furnace if a repair, even a minor one, is needed whenever a furnace or air conditioner is over 10 years old. They set goals for their service technicians to turn at least 1 in 10 service calls into sales leads and pay them a commission when a unit is sold. Service technicians can also get caught up in the quest for more money, with some diagnosing problems that may not actually exist just to earn a commission. This is how “cat toys in furnaces” and “chipmunks with attitudes and power drills” became major problems. So what makes CARE Heating and Cooling different? It is my philosophy that we are in business not only to get new customers, but more importantly to keep them. Never will anyone in the service department profit by recommending to a consumer to replace their furnace or air conditioner. Not only do we offer free second opinions for a diagnosis of a bad compressor or heat exchanger, we will often second opinion ourselves when condemning equipment to be sure we have not made a mistake. If a mistake is made, it will be an honest one and we will stand behind everything we do. Lastly, you can trust us to offer you the lowest possible price on all services and installations we do. We are, and always will be, the best value in town. Thank you for considering CARE Heating and Cooling. Let us prove to you why you should call us “When you need a company you can trust.” Call CARE for the best possible service in central Ohio. June 3, 2010: Called Care ( who I have a service agreement with), and told them that I had a 'humming/vibration coming from my heating/AC vents and I felt that the blower motor was having a problem. Linda at Care made a service appointment for the following Monday, which was fine with me at that time. June 4, 2010: started to smell burning plastic or something coming from my Furnac/AC. Called Linda at Care and told her that this was now more than a simple "humming" irritation and that something was burning and that I had shut the system off. Linda ( who must be the owner's wife or daughter, otherwise she would not act the way she acts), told me "gee, we re awfull busy and don't know what we can do for you. I said, hey Linda, I have no AC and its hot and i have a service agreement with you, so just get here. She made the comment, "geez, you live close to Muirfield and we don't like to go there during the Memorial Week. I told her, hey, you are in Lewis center, I am in Concord township, come in the back way and you won't have any traffic issues. Tech arrives the next day, has a blower motor, and fixes the problem, ( he was here for 30 minutes) and gives me $470.00, no breakdown of parts and labor. I paid the bill via credit card. After he left I "Googled" the part number and found that the part was $179.00 RETAIL. understand that he was here for 30-45 minutes. I called Linda and told her that I thought a mistake had been made. I asked her what Care's hourly rate was, and she told me that they had no hourly rate and charged by the job. So told her that less the $175.00 part that they charged me over $300.00 per hour which I felt was excessive. Her comment to me was " did we repair your system to your satisfaction? I said yes you did, and she told me that we had nothing further to discuss.. Want good service and good tech's, Care is really good. Want a fair shake on cost, they will bend you over.
Description of Work: They replaced the blower motor on my furnace/air conditioing system. They replaced it successfully. The tech guy knew his stuff and did a good job. They ripped me off on the charges.

The arrived at 8:30 in the AM on a Friday and the two guys got right to work. One outside, one downstairs. By 1 PM (no lunch break for these fellas) they had everything installed and were in the process of charging the system and verifying no leaks. By 3 PM they had everything operational and check out began with me. After a system walkthrough to discuss maintenance and operation they had me sign off. The cleaned their areas well and removed all debris.
Description of Work: I requested a quote for a total changeout of the HVAC system including the Airconditioner and Furnace. I chose CARE due to their solid rating on Angieslist as well as the Two Year Same as Cash option. The replaced all systems to my specifications and allowed (at a fair price) my requested upgrades of the air cleaner as well as external exhausting and air sourcing due to my expected finishing of the basement. The only thing I was not pleased with was the failure to cover the vents. These are easily accessible and will probably cost me a total of $7.

I called them at 7 a.m., and an hour later they called back. They sent someone out within the hour, so that was pretty fast fashion. Everything turned out really well. The guy that came out, his name was Dan, he did a really great job at giving me information, and it went really well all around. *Update* The fix that Dan made did not correct the issue, despite his best efforts. I called Care back and they sent out Tim, who took another look at the system at no charge to me. We made one more attempt to solve the problem. About 8 hours later, the problem re-surfaced. I again called Care to notify them. They believe they knew they problem just by process of elimination alone. Again, Tim was sent out. They were able to fix it! They came out within an hour each time I called. I appreciated their responsiveness. It took a few trips, but I was happy I chose their services. The two workers were wonderful.
Description of Work: My wife got pneumonia, and I woke up a couple days ago and realized it was cold in here. They ended up cleaning a sparker, which was causing my furnace not to come on. I also bought a filter for my humidifier.

Tom arrived on time and went right to work. We needed a furnace inspection because we had just bought a house and the furnace hadn't had any maintenance in almost ten years. He checked everything out, showed us how to work everything, showed us how to change the filters, and gave us some other advice. He was done in an hour, didn't try to sell us a new furnace, and was very helpful. We will definitely call them again when it's time for the air conditioning maintenance!

In a word excellent. Furnace stopped working last night. Called this morning and had someone to the house within 3 hours. Motor that controls the blower was broke and he had to drive across town in the snow to get a replacement. Tech did not even give it a second thought. After he replaced it the furnace still was not coming on. He thought the upper control unit needed to be replaced another $300. :( After he replaced it he was having trouble programming it. After about an hour working on his own he came upstairs and proclaimed the board did not need to be replaced. He had a loose wire that was grounding out that was causing the problem on the old board. So he put the old board back in and all was well. I was downstairs when he said the upper board needed to be replaced and based on what I was seeing for myself it seemed logical. He figured out the problem while I was upstairs. He could have easily put the wire in correctly, charging me another $300 for a part I did not need and I would have been none the wiser. Did he do that, no, he did the right thing and put my old board back in and did not charge me the extra cost. It is not often you find companies this honest. You hear their commercials about their honesty and based on my experience I fully agree! If I ever need repairs again, or a replacement, Care will be the first company I call.

Our Lennox pulse furnace didn't start this fall. We decided since it was 20 years old and with the government tax credit, that we would purchase a new furnace along with the air conditioner. We had quotes from 6 companies, including Care. Although there were no big negatives with any of the companies, we felt Care had the most positives, including the cost. Mark Baker, Sales Manager, was nice to work with. We felt he was very honest and helpful in deciding what Lennox units (we decided on Lennox due to research, etc.). For our benefit he recommended a lower cost (but still good) air conditioner unit. We decided to go with a higher cost unit for asthetic and performance reason. He came back to the house to write up a new contract. He was very helpful in helping us make a decision based on what units qualified for the tax credits ("seems" like all the companies didn't have all the same/latest info). Mark was the only one that really suggested that we keep our old Aprilaire humidifier rather than getting a new one. He explained "things" very well, including about the new thermostat we would be getting. The installtion team (Jim and another fellow whose name we never obtained) were very competent, polite and attentative to the very end. They finished the job in one day whereas the other 5 companies said it would take 2 days for some reason. They did a very good clean-up job.
Description of Work: Had a new Lennox furnace (G61MVP) and air conditioner (XC13) installed.

I called CARE to get a competing quote on furnaces because my old one had a crack in the heat exchanger. they recommended the high efficiency to save money on the gas bill. Ieventually went with them after signing up for Angie's List and reading the reviews. The job started with two individuals and ended up with one. The first gentleman left becaause he had another job scheduled that day. They were very courteous and helpful. They hooked up a new thermostat I bought and also wired it to a new wire that would be helpful for when I got a central air system. It involved a lot of ductwork around the furnace. They also moved my water heater with the tank still filled and replaced the gas pipes and shutoff valves going to the water heater and furnace at no extra charge. I lost a lot of sleep that day (I sleep during the day), but it was well worth it.

If you have minor problems, they have a tendency to wait until the 2nd or 3rd call to come out.
Description of Work: I called them July '08. They responded well. The Air conditioner was running constantly. They replaced the entire unit- heat pump, furnace and all of the wires. It's a Lennox furnace and heat pump. They sold me a temperature sensor for the heat pump. Within the year, we had a couple minor problems. We called them. The heat pump was making a tremendous amount of noise. We called them and it took them about a week or so to get back to us. They came out and said there wasn't anything wrong with it. Another time, the face of the thermostat came off. They came out and snapped it back on. I asked them about a sensor- I was told when I bought the equipment if I bought an outdoor sensor it would shut off the heat pump at 32 degrees. It wasn't working. I called them and it took them 2 weeks to come out. They had to look at my manual and said that I have to set the thermostat to the temperature I want. It doesn't automatically shut off the heat pump. You set the thermostate. You make the decision for the thermostat. Most recently, the furnace filter size is 16 by 20 by 1. We're buying filters from several companies and are unable to find the correct size for it. We only found one company that has the correct size. They won't come out to the house...they just say, 'You're just going to have to find one that fits'. We've tried several. They don't offer suggestions of filters to go with...they just say check around. When they brought the furnace initially, they ran it without a filter.

I was very happy with the service. They were prompt and the technician was professional and cordial. He diagnosed the problem and fixed the system on the first visit. Very frustrating---I really am not sure of the status of my AC.I guess I will have to get a second opinion. The air conditioning unit is ten years old and should last longer.Again I don't know if the unit will stay charged or if $162 worth of freon leaked out overnight.
Description of Work: I called Care to fix my air conditioner. They dispatched a person the next day.The tech checked my system and determined the the system had a leak.He tried to find the leak but could not find it.Not good!!! He told me it would cost me another $150 to find the leak.( I thought that is what he was supposed to do now) I asked if he could recharge the system and maybe it would last the season--he said yes and proceeded to put three pounds of R-22 freon in the system at a cost of $54 per pound($162) I asked the tech if someone from his office could call me to discuss some alternatives---as of this writing, no one has called. Bottom line is my air conditioner is not fixed, we put more freon in, and maybe next time I turn on the AC,--it will work OR maybe not!!

Response from CARE Heating & Cooling Inc
I am sorry the member is disappointed with our service, but we were actually trying to save them money rather than attempt to get them to spend more. The member called us and requested our $89.95 air conditioner check-up. As this was the first time we have provided service on their air conditioner we had no service history on the unit, which according to the serial number is 11 years old. We did a thorough inspection of all the air conditioner components and furnace blower and found two problems: 1) It was way out of level and 2) It was low on refrigerant. To correct the first problem would require the air conditioner to be disconnected and set aside to level the pad, then reinstalled as the ground under it sloped rather drastically. This would be a very expensive proposition for an 11 year old air conditioner. Since the member did not mention this in his report I will not comment on this issue either. When it comes to adding refrigerant to a customer’s system the history with the system plays an important part of the decision making process as to the extent of the repair. If this was the first time refrigerant had been added to an 11 year old system it would not indicate a significant leak. In fact it is conceivable the system could go another 10 years before it needed refrigerant again. When adding refrigerant to an air conditioning system for the first time it is out policy to check all of the fittings that are prone to fail for substantial leaks with an electronic leak detector. If none are found we add refrigerant to the factory specifications. In the case of this member this is what we did for a cost of $162.00 for 3 pounds of refrigerant. In each case we quote the cost of a through leak check should the leak be more substantial than we originally thought. A through leak check is an invasive procedure that renders the air conditioner inoperable until the leak is repaired. The procedure is to pressurize the system with dry nitrogen to approximately 300-400 psi, the test pressure the air conditioner is rated for. At that pressure small and obscure leaks will become apparent. Once all leaks have been found we can then quote a repair. However, since nitrogen was introduced into the system, and the system must be empty of any refrigerant to do almost any repair, the system must be completely drained, then evacuated and recharged with new refrigerant. If the leak was very minor, as it may very well be in the member’s case, this is also an unreasonable expense for an 11 year old air conditioner. While the member is disappointed with the service we provided, we really were trying to save them money! CARE Heating and Cooling, Inc.

My air conditioning quit over the weekend, and it was VERY hot out. I called around to a number of places, but everyone said they were only servicing people who had existing contracts with them. That was frustrating, because I didn't need a contract with anyone until I had a problem. Despite being very busy, Care Heating and Cooling made time for me; they made suggestions for things I could try on Sunday, and when those didn't work, they got out to see me on Monday. Without that, I'd have likely been waiting another 2-3 days for a vendor. In addition, the man who arrived not only diagnosed the low freon problem and fixed it, but he also performed a "quick" check to see if he could find the leak in my cooling system, which he did. He also gave me some useful advice on what my additional options were for fixing that leak. I wasn't wildly impressed by the office staff, but the repairman was pleasant and knowledgeable, and he did more than he was strictly required to do to help me solve the problem.
Description of Work: Diagnosis of air conditioning failure. Two pounds of freon were added to my air conditioning unit as a temporary fix, and a leak in the coil was found that will need to be addressed at a later date.

We requested that the install of the heat pump be done three weeks after the salesman gave us the information. Installation was prompt, within the stated timeframe and the clean up was through. We were shown how to set the programmable thermostat and change the filter on the heat pump. As stated earlier just about three weeks after Care Heating installed our heat pump at our home the heat pump in our rental house went out. Care heating came out and gave us an estimate and installed the new heat pump at our rental in less than a week so our renter wasn't without cooling more than a few days.
Description of Work: We recently purchased a heat pump for a rental property that we own less than a month after we replaced the heat pump in our primary residence. After checking with three other venders we chose Care Heating for the heat pump for our home and were very pleased with both the quality of the unit and the service to say nothing of the BEST price!!! Less than a month later the heat pump in our rental home went out so we called Care Heating and they installed a new unit there in less than a week. Everyone was very happy with the service and cost.
