But these eight words are more than just a slogan at CARE Heating and Cooling. They are our motto and the basis of our business philosophy, and the way we want to be remembered by you at the end of the day. From the beginning I wanted CARE be a different kind of company. After spending many years working for other heating and cooling companies, I became alarmed by the trends I was seeing in the residential heating and cooling industry. “Increase sales”, “raise your prices” and “make every employee a sales person” became the operating statements of many companies, leading to the biggest fraud of all: paying service technicians to sell replacement furnaces and air conditioners. In the 1980s a major manufacturer began to promote to its dealers a unique sales technique – have service technicians sell replacements. The rationale was that a service technician had the inherent trust of the consumer. If a repair was needed a service technician had ability to take advantage of that trust and offer to install a replacement system. This provided an immediate solution to an immediate problem that would lock out any competition, result in a much higher than normal selling price and much higher profits. Because companies make more money, a lot more in fact, selling you a new system rather than fixing the one you own this approach was widely adopted over the next couple of decades. To generate even more sales and profits many companies today apply a lot of pressure to service technicians to sell even more. Several local companies’ guidelines state specifically that a consumer is to be advised to replace their furnace if a repair, even a minor one, is needed whenever a furnace or air conditioner is over 10 years old. They set goals for their service technicians to turn at least 1 in 10 service calls into sales leads and pay them a commission when a unit is sold. Service technicians can also get caught up in the quest for more money, with some diagnosing problems that may not actually exist just to earn a commission. This is how “cat toys in furnaces” and “chipmunks with attitudes and power drills” became major problems. So what makes CARE Heating and Cooling different? It is my philosophy that we are in business not only to get new customers, but more importantly to keep them. Never will anyone in the service department profit by recommending to a consumer to replace their furnace or air conditioner. Not only do we offer free second opinions for a diagnosis of a bad compressor or heat exchanger, we will often second opinion ourselves when condemning equipment to be sure we have not made a mistake. Absolutely fabulous customer service from start to finish, and I also feel like the price was extremely competitive. I originally submitted four online requests for an A/C quote after looking at Angie's List reviews. Care was the only company that actually called me back! Granted, I was asking for an A/C quote in the dead of winter, but knew it needed replaced and wanted to 'beat the rush.' Phase I - Mike Wiens owns Care and was actually the one who came to the house to discuss our A/C. He came because his salesperson had a conflict & wanted to make sure he kept the appointment...that set the tone for the customer service qualities that everyone we dealt with at Care displayed. Mike was very thorough and actually took extra time to look at our furnace while he was here. He wasn't at all aggressive in selling us an A/C, and in fact recommended that we not simultaneously replace our furnace because it appeared to be in good shape. Phase II - We had already accepted a quote to buy an A/C when the blower went out on the furnace. I called Care and they were out to the house within an hour. I thought this was a spectacular response, especially in the dead of one our 'polar vortexes.' I decided on my own to replace our furnace...long story short, there was another component going in addition to the blower and it looked like I would ultimately end up sinking a couple grand into a 15-year old furnace in the next year or two. The furnace purchase process went just like the A/C. Christy served as our salesperson and explained all of our options (including repairing our existing furnace...again, not pushing a new purchase). We agreed to replace both and scheduled the install on two different dates. I think any HVAC company wants you to replace both systems at the same time because of reduced labor, but the Care folks understood we couldn't wait to install the furnace even though it was too cold to install the A/C. The install of both systems went flawlessly. We were told to expect the service folks between 8-9 am, and they showed up almost exactly at 8am for both installs. They worked quickly and effectively, explaining what they were doing and how to take care of our systems while they were working. By the end of this entire experience, we had dealt with the owner, two sales reps, a couple of company reps (via phone) and several installation techs, with Ed doing a fabulous job supervising and/or conducting both installs. Everyone at Care was very courteous and extremely responsive. Every phone call I made was either answered or returned within about an hour (in the case where the sales folks were out of the office when I called). We are extremely pleased with our purchase, and even more pleased with the customer service experience. Mike and his team are great, and we recommend them highly.

My second favorite of 5 companies providing an estimate. Estimate on time, lasted 0.75 hours (tied for shortest). Very professional, friendly, and informative, and very customer-service oriented. Uses Lennox, a brand I eventually went with. Estimate of $4618 included humidifier, wifi thermostat, new filter box, new air intake, and one year maintenance. Company is considering a lifetime labor warranty with purchased maintenance agreement. Very attractive company.

They came out on a Saturday (no extra charge), diagnosed the problem, did a temporary fix, then came back on Monday with the part and replaced it. No problems since then. I couldn't have asked for better service, and the price was reasonable. It is great they don't have high weekend charges like so many other companies I called. I will definitely use them again!

Called the service center because the furnace kept motoring but failed to blow heat. They sent a technician that evening. The Tech determined that a pressure switch had failed and this part had to be ordered . The furnace was still under warranty since it was recently installed back in May 2013. The technician assured us that the part would be ordered and we would hear from the service scheduler first thing in the morning. We waited until 12:15 PM the next day before we called the service center and complained. A technician with the part was at our house within one hour of the phone call. The furnace was repaired.

We heard a terrible metallic squeaking noise coming from our furnace upon start-up and shut-down, and we looked on Angie's List for the best company to call. We chose CARE based on previous reviews, and from that first phone call, CARE was extremely responsive and helpful. Tim came out right away and diagnosed the furnace with a dying blower motor. He ordered the replacement motor from the manufacturer (per our request) and said they'd call as soon as it was in. Unfortunately, our motor didn't want to hold out as long as we had hoped, and it died the following morning. I called again, and Tim came back to install a rescue motor to hold us over. Unfortunately (again), while testing the furnace, he detected high CO levels inside, which led to the discovery of the damaged heat exchanger. Tim showed me his readings and the visible issue within the furnace, and discussed my repair options. CARE also sent Christie to our home the same day, so that we could consider a new furnace. She presented my options thoroughly and without pressure. I was pleasantly surprised by the pricing - I had expected a new furnace to cost more. In the end, we opted to replace the furnace entirely, as the cost of repair (on a 13-year old Trane furnace) was high, and for just a little more money, we could replace the old 80% efficiency furnace with a 96% efficiency model. Mike and Todd came the next day (at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning, no less) to install the new furnace. They were efficient, professional, and funny. In just over five hours, they had a new gas furnace installed and our heat restored. Just in time for another winter storm that's due tomorrow. Thanks to everyone at CARE, our problem was resolved quickly, and I would highly recommend them to anyone in the central Ohio area.
Description of Work: CARE replaced a dying blower motor and, while doing so, discovered a problem with the heat exchanger due to high CO levels within the furnace. CARE provided me with options to either repair or replace, and we opted to replace the entire furnace.

Everything went well... he used those little booties on his shoes so he wouldn't track the slushy snow in the house, and he found the problem and fixed it under an hour. All in all, a positive experience.
Description of Work: My furnace was running but not producing heat. The technician came to the house during the hours I was told and he was very friendly and courteous. It was a pretty quick and easy fix (though not something I could have done) and it wasn't very expensive.

I woke up at 4 AM unusually cold. Upon checking the thermostat, I found the house at 59 degrees. I tried a few things myself and set up space heaters in the 2 bedrooms to help until I could call in during normal business hours. Starting from my first phone call at 7AM, CARE was excellent. The person scheduling us (same day appointment) suggested reseating the air filter. Doing this allowed the furnace to start to blow air which was progress, but it wasn't warm air. The technician arrived on time and diagnosed the problem within minutes. He was extremely friendly and recommended that because we didn't need a ultradense air filter for allergies, we switch to a different air filter as we were suffocating our furnace with an ultradense one that we purchased. We signed up for their maintenance program because it was the right thing for us... the technician only mentioned it, he was not pushy at all.

I can't say enough about this company and the techs that have come to my home. Very professional , they describe what they are doing and don't try to push unneeded parts or service on customers. They do the job, make recommendations with no pressure. The ladies that take the calls for emergent appointments are equally as professional and helpful. I am so very grateful for the fast response time on such a cold evening with no heat! Highly recommend!!! Prices are reasonable and fair.

Well, this has been an interesting experience. They came out 4 times to fix a water leak. I eventually discovered the problem myself! The problem was they did not catch that the cap was missing on the old AND new condensation trap. My biggest concern was a lack of communication between the companies different parties and not having the service manager return my calls. Instead I talked with someone in the office that allegedly did not have the technical skills needed to communicate to the tech what was needed. First visit: First technician saw the leak and borrowed vasaline from me to "grease" the hoses. Said it could be a bad condensation trap. Couple of days later leak started again and I called Care and told them to bring the new condensation trap per the tech's discussion with me. Second visit: Different technician comes out but didn't get the word about bringing out the condensation trap. He had to come out again and bring the trap. Third Visit: Technician brings out new condensation trap and installs. Next day the leak returns. I go down and look at the new piece and discover a 3/4 inch cap was not on the drain hole. I called and told them I needed the large cap on the drain hole (there is actually one on each side. One goes to the floor drain, the other is supposed to have a cap. I suppose this design is for flexibility so it can be installed in different situations.) Fourth visit: Technician arrives with the small little rubber cap for the clean out hole, not the large cap that was needed! Said he would have to come back out a 5th time! Wife explodes on the technician! Technician, after calling service manager, installs a PVC pipe on the trap and the leak is finally stopped. Service manager was supposed to call me this morning to discuss this situation. He did not! So I decided to write this review.

We woke up on a very cold morning to our furnace not working. After calling several companies and getting on lists for them to "maybe" come out that day, we heard from Care that they could come out that afternoon. The tech called ahead as the operator had explained earlier and arrived promptly as promised. He got right to work checking for the most common issues and after checking outside found that the air inlet was clogged. A seemingly easy fix but we were very grateful at the quick response on such a cold day when many other people were having issues with their furnaces. The tech was very professional and explained what he was doing. Although we didn't opt for their service plan, it was fully explained as well as the charges for the visit. Overall we were very pleased and would not hesitate to call them back if needed.

I had three different contractors provide me with quotes (Lennox, Trane and Bryant dealers). We chose Care (Lennox) based on the professionalism of the salesperson and knowledge of the product. The salesperson did not over or undersell sell the furnace and provided me with multiple options based on my finances. The company was able to work with my schedule and install the unit by the following week (all within one day).
