But these eight words are more than just a slogan at CARE Heating and Cooling. They are our motto and the basis of our business philosophy, and the way we want to be remembered by you at the end of the day. From the beginning I wanted CARE be a different kind of company. After spending many years working for other heating and cooling companies, I became alarmed by the trends I was seeing in the residential heating and cooling industry. “Increase sales”, “raise your prices” and “make every employee a sales person” became the operating statements of many companies, leading to the biggest fraud of all: paying service technicians to sell replacement furnaces and air conditioners. In the 1980s a major manufacturer began to promote to its dealers a unique sales technique – have service technicians sell replacements. The rationale was that a service technician had the inherent trust of the consumer. If a repair was needed a service technician had ability to take advantage of that trust and offer to install a replacement system. This provided an immediate solution to an immediate problem that would lock out any competition, result in a much higher than normal selling price and much higher profits. Because companies make more money, a lot more in fact, selling you a new system rather than fixing the one you own this approach was widely adopted over the next couple of decades. To generate even more sales and profits many companies today apply a lot of pressure to service technicians to sell even more. Several local companies’ guidelines state specifically that a consumer is to be advised to replace their furnace if a repair, even a minor one, is needed whenever a furnace or air conditioner is over 10 years old. They set goals for their service technicians to turn at least 1 in 10 service calls into sales leads and pay them a commission when a unit is sold. Service technicians can also get caught up in the quest for more money, with some diagnosing problems that may not actually exist just to earn a commission. This is how “cat toys in furnaces” and “chipmunks with attitudes and power drills” became major problems. So what makes CARE Heating and Cooling different? It is my philosophy that we are in business not only to get new customers, but more importantly to keep them. Never will anyone in the service department profit by recommending to a consumer to replace their furnace or air conditioner. Not only do we offer free second opinions for a diagnosis of a bad compressor or heat exchanger, we will often second opinion ourselves when condemning equipment to be sure we have not made a mistake. We have used CARE for years...they have replaced my main furnace/AC over the years. They might be a bit expensive, but I know I can count on them for all our heating and cooling needs. For this bedroom/bathroom addition, I got quotes from CARE and my contractor's guy. My contractor's guy was $3k cheaper, but his quote wasn't very detailed...just a little paragraph about installing the units and ducts. CARE's quote was almost a page long, with all sorts of details about the units, the materials, what they won't do (like install the new breakers into the electrical box). The installer was a little irritating - very defensive and loud. But my CARE touchpoint assured me that he was very good. I was glad that I was around for the 2-3 days of install, because we did clear up a few things. Overall, I think I ended up with a quality system and it heats like a dream! I have had to call CARE back for follow-up service because the damper was loose so it rattled (fixed), and the system makes some strange noises when heating up (better, but not solved). I use their Maintenance Plan, so I'll make sure they monitor that sound to ensure nothing is wrong.

We had a couple of "hiccups" with our furnace early in the morning. I got to work and called CARE to see if they thought I should schedule a service call or not. We have an annual maintenance plan with them and they pointed out that our Spring AC checkup was due. They said we could schedule the tech in the evening for the AC checkup and he could take a look at the furnace while he was here. The appt. was scheduled for between 5-8pm that evening. Steve showed up toward the beginning of that window and spent around an hour checking the AC and the furnace. He was polite and professional. Due to the maintenance contract, there was no charge for the service call. Excellent customer service all the way around!

I have been a customer of Care Heating and Cooling for the past several years. I think I have about five furnace diagnostics taped to my furnace, so that must be how many times I have used this company for either issues or general maintenance. I have never waited more than 24 hours for Care to show up at my home to diagnose and fix a furnace problem. My furnace is always working correctly when they walk out the door. And it's usually the dead of winter when I have problems. Coldest day in December, the furnace acts up. It's flashing a code. My usual monkey with the furnace tricks don't work, so I call Care Heating and Cooling. They are at my door within a half hour. They were across the street at another customer, and made time for me. Tech has the furnace diagnosed and running within a few minutes and it continues running without issue. We have to order a part, but that is in by the next morning for another quick visit by the same Tech by 10am the following morning. If I have another issue, I will call Care because I have confidence that they will show up quickly and solve the problem.

Came on time and performed work in a timely manner under some extreme conditions when power was out for about 3.5 to 4 hours. The new installation looks much better than the original one done when the house was originally built.

Kyle was very professional and showed up on time. He even fixed the problem and gave me a bill except I didn't call him to fix it. I just wanted them to diagnose the problem and their response is that they couldn't diagnose without fixing it- which does not make sense to me. It seems like a rip off and taking the customer for a ride. They should have asked me if I wanted that service. What I requested was diagnostics. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED and FEEL CHEATED!

He came at the scheduled time. He recommended a filter and a surge protector. He did not have the appropriate sized filter for our furnace, so we will have to order one online. he also recommended duct cleaning, which is really expensive, so we are thinking about that.

I had a tech out to look at a gas leak in the furnace. He tightened up the connections to get me going again but he said after the diagnostic tests that I really needed a new furnace. I expected that due to the fact the old one was 30+ years old. He gave me an estimate just as I asked for it - the basic model that was sufficient to heat the home. He guarranteed the low price or beat the competitor. I called to schedule the appointment and they actually had in installed 2 days later in the midst of the worst cold streak of the year. The furnace was installed and I could hardly tell anyone was in the area because he cleaned up after himself and ordered the final inspection from the city. I have done business with Care prior and except for one rude technician, I have had a very positive experience with them. I would recommend them to my family.

Service person was very friendly and prompt. Had a window of 12p to 5p on a Saturday. Mind you the furnace went out Saturday morning. Found this company on Angie's list and purchased a discounted diagnostic service, called and they sent the technician out the SAME DAY with no extra charge for a Saturday. Service person was very thorough and identified the problem as a faulty switch relay on the furnace blower. He also adjusted the furnace so that there was some heat supplied to the house until the part could be ordered and installed. Will use this company again (obviously as I purchased a service agreement with them)

Kelly from Care Heating and Cooling came out and she was very polite. Kelly called before she came out. She promptly diagnosed and solved our problem. We had a really good experience.

We purchased a "deal" for use on a residential rental property. When contacted by Care to schedule service, we were, at that time, told that the coupon could not be used on a rental unit. I went back and reread the advertisement and could not find any reference to being valid only for owner-occupied properties. It only mentioned that the "deal" was for residential service. This was our second attempt to use Care Heating and Cooling. The first was approximately two years ago when we were putting in a new system in a rental unit. The saleswoman met us at the property, went through the house with us in order to quote the job. She left with a lot of notes, but we never heard from her or Care again. From these two cases, I can only assume that Care does not seem to want to do business with owners of rental units, so if you're an investor, save your time and don't bother to contact Care for service.

Summary: For those of you who do not want to read this lengthy and detailed review, the sum of my experience was that CARE took over two weeks to properly diagnose my broken AC unit and then attempted to charge me for a new coil or a sell me a replacement system even though my old system was still under warranty. CARE said they could not perform the necessary repair under warranty because three of their senior technicians apparently "could not locate" a serial number that we ultimately discovered was plainly displayed right next to the coil. This exhausting experience left us without AC for two weeks in the heat of June while we had family visiting from abroad and nearly ruined by son's first birthday party. Luckily, Worthington Air was able to save the day with a quick and reasonably priced repair under warranty. On a positive note, CARE did not attempt to charge us for their failed repair attempts or for the repairs we apparently didn't need that they first said we did need. Details: My unit stopped working Friday afternoon of May 29th. I contacted CARE that weekend after reading positive reviews on Angie's list as well as on other sites. The timing was particularly bad because I was hosting family visiting from abroad to celebrate my son's first birthday two weeks later. The earliest CARE could come was June 2nd which was fine since the summer had been mild and we were managing well with some table fans. CARE service technician came out and diagnosed the issue as a bad defrost control board which would need to be ordered and another date for replacement will have to be scheduled. CARE called me the same afternoon and scheduled the repair for June 4th for approx $450.00. On June 4th two service technicians came to my house to make sure everything was performed correctly which I very much appreciated. The technicians stated that when they dug deeper they found that the low pressure switch is stuck in open position applying back voltage and a new defrost control board was not needed after all. They fixed the bad wiring and added extensive silicone padding around the wiring to keep the rodents at bay. I appreciated that they didn't install a board I didn't need. Next they evaluated the indoor unit to make sure all was working well. As part of this, they discovered the txv valve on the evaporator coil was failing which would need to be repaired before I can resume using the AC. He will have to go back with the details to CARE and schedule the repair. I received a call from CARE within the next day, they explained that the cost will be around $900.00 and the earliest they could schedule me was June 9th, which was starting to make me nervous as some of my guests had already arrived and more were scheduled to arrive June 11th. I requested that they expedite the repair if at all possible and explained the whole situation once again. The weather was also starting to get warmer making everyone at home uncomfortable still. On June 9th, the technician arrived to replace the valve. After about a couple hours of attempting the repair he informed me that the old valve could not be properly removed. As a result a proper connection with the new valve could not be established and the entire evaporator coil itself will need to be replaced. They didn't charge me for the attempted repair. I received a call that afternoon from CARE and they explained that even though the evaporator coil is not more than 10 years old (sticker on the unit) their technicians were unable to locate the serial number for the coil so I would have to pay the entire replacement cost of the coil out of pocket instead of using warranty replacement. This would be around $2,500 - $3,000. She assured me that they were in touch with Trane to try and get me the warranty price but I would have to decide whether to go ahead with scheduling the repair without this information at hand so I can get it done by June 12th. She also suggested having CARE price a brand new system since the coil is going to be around 30-40% the cost of a new system. This was now officially a nightmare scenario. CARE sent a tech to price a new system the next day (June 10) and I also reached out to Worthington Air for help locating the serial number since looking at the previous home owners paperwork I found out that Worthington Air had done the initial installation. On the afternoon of June 10, I received another call from CARE stating that they are unable to get Trane to honor the warranty without the serial number. I asked if they could send another technician to try to locate this serial number but was informed that three senior techs have tried already (including the tech who priced the new system). I knew for a fact that the tech who priced the system had not attempted to locate the serial number since he did not take apart any of the coil housing which the tech who had attempted the txv valve repair had put back together for some reason. At this point I let CARE know that I am having Worthington Air come by tomorrow to take a look and find the mysterious serial number. A Worthington Air tech came by the next day and found the serial number within 5 minutes. He priced the replacement coil under warranty for around $900. Not surprisingly, CARE called me that same afternoon with the "good" news that they were finally able to get the warranty information sorted out with Trane and can replace the coil for $1500. As you can imagine, I had lost trust in CARE by this point - this seemed like either incompetence or an attempt to sell me a new system I didn't need. Worthington Air even expedited the repair so they had the coil replaced by June 12 -- within two days of me getting in touch with them and just in time to save the day for my son's first birthday. I learned a valuable lessons during this experience: I should have done my research on who installed the system in the first place. I hope my experience helps someone else in making the correct repair service provider choice.
