If you are familiar with any of our advertising you know that these words are at the end of each and every one of our ads. But these eight words are more than just a slogan at CARE Heating and Cooling. They are our motto and the basis of our business philosophy, and the way we want to be remembered by you at the end of the day. From the beginning I wanted CARE be a different kind of company. After spending many years working for other heating and cooling companies, I became alarmed by the trends I was seeing in the residential heating and cooling industry. “Increase sales”, “raise your prices” and “make every employee a sales person” became the operating statements of many companies, leading to the biggest fraud of all: paying service technicians to sell replacement furnaces and air conditioners. In the 1980s a major manufacturer began to promote to its dealers a unique sales technique – have service technicians sell replacements. The rationale was that a service technician had the inherent trust of the consumer. If a repair was needed a service technician had ability to take advantage of that trust and offer to install a replacement system. This provided an immediate solution to an immediate problem that would lock out any competition, result in a much higher than normal selling price and much higher profits. Because companies make more money, a lot more in fact, selling you a new system rather than fixing the one you own this approach was widely adopted over the next couple of decades. To generate even more sales and profits many companies today apply a lot of pressure to service technicians to sell even more. Several local companies’ guidelines state specifically that a consumer is to be advised to replace their furnace if a repair, even a minor one, is needed whenever a furnace or air conditioner is over 10 years old. They set goals for their service technicians to turn at least 1 in 10 service calls into sales leads and pay them a commission when a unit is sold. Service technicians can also get caught up in the quest for more money, with some diagnosing problems that may not actually exist just to earn a commission. This is how “cat toys in furnaces” and “chipmunks with attitudes and power drills” became major problems. So what makes CARE Heating and Cooling different? It is my philosophy that we are in business not only to get new customers, but more importantly to keep them. Never will anyone in the service department profit by recommending to a consumer to replace their furnace or air conditioner. Not only do we offer free second opinions for a diagnosis of a bad compressor or heat exchanger, we will often second opinion ourselves when condemning equipment to be sure we have not made a mistake. If a mistake is made, it will be an honest one and we will stand behind everything we do. Lastly, you can trust us to offer you the lowest possible price on all services and installations we do. We are, and always will be, the best value in town. Thank you for considering CARE Heating and Cooling. Let us prove to you why you should call us “When you need a company you can trust.” Call CARE for the best possible service in central Ohio. Our HVAC system was functioning normally, but leaking huge puddles of clear water in our basement. I called CARE for the first time ever, and they were able to send someone out promptly, which was appreciated. Kelly showed up, and she spent over an hour just trying to diagnose the problem. She obviously could not, but wouldn't admit it. So she said, "Oh, it's a little low on freon." And I said, "Is that why it's leaking water in the basement?" And she said, "Probably." Which isn't exactly a response you want from a service person. I would be much rather have her admit she didn't know what the problem was, then call for a backup opinion. So she proceeded to charge me a few hundred dollars for a service plan, and freon. Just to charge me for something. I wasn't feeling very confident in her diagnosis of the problem, but I thought: she must know. She's the professional, right? It was like she was looking for something to charge me for, just so she could say she fixed the problem. I asked if her adding the freon would make the basement leak stop. She said, "Probably." Then she said that if it doesn't stop, then the water "probably wasn't coming from our HVAC." Even though I told her I could SEE the water ACTUALLY dripping from our HVAC. She scoffed. I did not appreciate her trying to make me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about, just because I'm not an expert in HVACs. So she put the freon in, charged me $219 for a yearly service plan, and $100 for freon. Then left. After being there for well over an hour. I waited about a half hour, checked the basement HVAC, and sure enough, water was pouring out of my system onto my basement floor. Obviously freon wasn't the problem. She made that up, just to charge me for something. So unprofessional! I immediately called CARE, and the operator was very nice and told me they would be sending a different technician out later in the day. Kyle arrived, and was very kind and professional, and immediately diagnosed the problem. And I mean IMMEDIATELY. He opened the front panel and said it was a clogged coil. Such a simple, obvious fix, and it was quite clear that Kyle knows his stuff! He didn't charge me for the visit, but talked me into a $45 blue spongy thing that sits in the system. Normally, I wouldn't have been bought something like this, but at that point, I was so appreciative that Kyle had come out to do the work so late in the day, and did it so quickly and easily. He is the reason I'm giving CARE a C instead of a D or an F. I feel like they need to make sure their HVAC professionals are trained better. Kyle is. Kelly is not. And she wasted my time and my money. When I followed up with CARE, I told them what happened, and that I wanted to tell them before I posted a review. The operator was very nice, and promised me she would tell a manager and they would follow up with me. It's been almost two weeks, and still no follow up. I'm locked into a service plan for the year with CARE, so I have no choice but to use them this year, but I'm not sure I would choose them again moving forward.

I needed someone, I didn't like my previous company that was doing the annual maintenance stuff and so I started having them do that as well.
Description of Work: I had a new thing added on to the furnace system. I also had cancer and there is a thing that uses ultraviolet light or something like that, that kills germs and bacteria and so I had that added on to the furnace.

Thankfully they were able to come before the scheduled time and gave me sufficient advanced notice that they were coming. Told me of my options and offered a service contract which I bought because I had only been changing the filter the past few years. My only complaint is that they charge for full pounds of R22 even though it comes from a large tank. So they put in 1 pound 7 ounces and charged for 2 pounds and sold that extra 9 ounces ($41) again to the next customer. I'm guessing this is standard industry practice, but that doesn't make it "right". I'm happy that they came out quickly and my A/C is still working well 3 days later.
Description of Work: A/C unit was not about to keep home cool. They determined the R22 coolant was low which means there is a leak.

After obtaining quotes from 3 companies, I selected CARE to replace my home furnace. Their price was competitive and their information was the most complete and accurate. Scheduling the install was easy and the install guys arrived promptly. The following issues occurred: - they broke the water lines leading to my hot water heater when they hit them changing out the furnace, requiring them to replace them. - they let a repairman from another company into my home without notifying me. - They scheduled a furnace inspection with the City of Columbus. They called me a few days later, telling me it was the wrong inspection location and they would send me a letter with the information about how to schedule they correct inspection. They didn't send the letter. - 6 weeks later, I went to my local suburban city office, obtained the correct inspection information, and got it scheduled. - the new furnace failed inspection because a CO2 detector was not installed. - I contacted the salesman, who provided the CO2 detector within 24 hours of the call. - at the time of the furnace installation, i was told that i would be contacted within 3 months to have a follow up inspection by CARE. At that time, they would make sure the furnace continued to work, and that it interacted with the cooling system with no issues. There has never been any follow up. The sales process was fine. The price was fine. But there were problems in the installation, the furnace failed inspection, and the appropriate follow ups never occurred. I would not use them again.

After contacting the company for service on the original unit it was concluded it was beyond repair. We met with Shane a few days later and discussed various units and decided on the one he had recommended. They were scheduling installs about a week out....so a few more days to endure central Ohio heat and humidity. Once our install date arrived, the installer arrived promptly and worked the entire day removing the old unit and installing the new. He was very conscientious of our home - laying cloths everywhere to cover the carpets, tile & floors. Whenever he came in from the outdoors he also put booties over his shoes. Everything was put back in its place before he left, the new unit installed and he reviewed the various functions/features of the electronic thermostat. They also provided the necessary, filled out forms to submit for our energy rebate. Very professional all around & would definitely recommend (& plan to continue to use in the future, as needed).

Four years ago I purchased a Lennox heat pump from Care Heating and Cooling. I did a fair amount of research and interviewed three HVAC companies in Columbus. I did not go with the low bid, I wanted a product and a service organization I could trust. The unit has been problematic from day one. The solution they installed has never properly turned over the air in the house resulting in noticeable temperature changes throughout the home. I have also had multiple paid service calls to check the system because it wasn't functioning properly. I actually had a couple of other companies come out because I didn't have confidence that Care could resolve the problems. This season the AC did not come on. I called Care to have them check out the system and they immediately pitched me on their "Care" service plan. After the service call, I was informed that I had a failed compressor which they would provide for "free" but it would be $900-$1000 in labor costs. I asked if that would be covered under a Care Plan if I purchased one, and they responded that it would not. I asked them for consideration due to the issues I have had, and they said no. In fact, they reviewed the service records and intimated that somehow I was at fault. They sold and installed the system and I expected they would take an interest in retaining a customer but that is not the case. I made one phone call to another certified Lennox dealer and was quoted 25% less to install the compressor under warranty. Care Heating and Cooling, shame on you for not taking better care of your customers.

This inspection could not have gone better. I applied for the coupon on Angies list for Care services to inspect my Mother in Law's A/C unit which she was informed from another provider of numerous items for consideration of repair/ replacement at a considerable expense. I anticipated quite a long time for a CARE service rep to be available and called CARE as a follow up to the coupon purchase. They had someone available and onsite yet that afternoon. Seth was prompt and on time. Made a very thorough inspection and provide the limits of unit which while a bit aged still has a number of years of good service left in it. Seth answered all of our questions and assured us that the unit is operating as manufactured to do so and well within the limits of operation. He assured us it is safe and operating fine, which was the intent of his inspection. We did not make him aware of the previous recommendations. We will not be utilizing the services of the previous provider for our annual contract in moving forward and WILL be entering into an annual PM contract with CARE for both our furnace and A/C units.
Description of Work: Provided an A/C inspection. Utilizing an Angies discounted coupon.

Everything went well for the most part. Crew was on time, professional, clean inside the house. All floors were covered. Crew worked hard and did a good job. Seemed rushed at the very end, don’t know why. Had to ask about the thermostat and they forgot to install the CO2 detector. Also, the inspection schedule was botched. Missed some time from work.

Four months ago, the service tech told me the problem and told me it might happen again or it might not. Some kind of valve was sticking. At the time, he told me to contact the service manager if it happened again. It happened again. I tried to contact the service manager - he NEVER returned my calls. So I had to schedule another appointment - another $69. The tech said some valve needed replacing and that it was an expensive procedure that was prone to cause other problems. Never mind the system is under warranty. Calls to Lennox were a huge waste of time as well as they don't seem to stand for their products and I would not take one of their systems if they were to give it to me. Lennox is a pitiful company as is Care Heating and Cooling. Should be called "Don't Care Heating and Plumbing"

They took care of my furnace problem quickly and professionally. They didn't have one of the parts immediately available because it was a Sunday evening. The tech said it would take 2 days. I bought a deal for a service call, but I realized I needed a cleaning or maintenance. I asked them to do extra work and the deal was a waste because I didn't use the service. They said if I wanted a cleaning I had to purchase the service. I called them and told them what I needed to do, and they told me what I needed was not included in the deal so they gave me another price estimate to do the work. So I just purchased the extra work. The service call was for my property in another state. When the service was done I wasn't there, but there is some contract work and they let the guys come in and do the work. They are fine, but I think their price is kind of expensive. I was not there so there is no way that I can check what they did. Once I scheduled a time they were there at the right time. I would not use them again in the future not because they did bad work, but because I no longer live there.
Description of Work: They cleaned the furnace and air conditioning. They tested to see if it was functioning and to see if there were any gas leaks.
