The initial window provided was a 2 hour window and once he determined that it would be towards the latter part of that window, he called me as he knew I was at work so I didn't have to sit at home waiting for his arrival. Upon arriving and listening and looking at the refrigerator, he determined it was either a bad relay or the compressor and explained each situation. Upon hooking up the new relay it appeared to work and he continued doing some tests and ensured the amps were in the right range before completing that aspect. He proceeded to clean out beneath the fridge to ensure it was not overworking itself due to all the dust and dirt that had collected underneath. Brooke was very professional and operated both quickly and efficiently.
Description of Work: My refrigerator was no longer working (was not producing cold air) and Brooke quickly determined it was either a bad relay (cheaper fix) or the compressor (likely a new refrigerator). Brooke replaced the relay and that did the trick. To ensure the new relay was working properly, we tested the amps to make sure they were normal and did not spike or dip. He also cleaned out below the refrigerator the coils to ensure the fridge was not overworking itself.

Description of Work: Called with a concern about my freezer and Brooke spent over 10 minutes talking with me Nd asking questions. Turns out that my concerns were easily explained. He did not need to come out. He to.d me what to watch for and to call him if those things happened. Love love love that he was more concerned about explaining things than charging me for a service call.

We discussed the issue, and how much it would cost to repair the washing machine vs. replacing it. I decided that the best approach would be to repair the machine. Brooke called his supplier and procured the necessary parts, and returned that same afternoon to do the repairs. He also purchased some washing machine cleaner for us to use, so that the washing machine would stay clean and odor free. We have contacted Brooke in the past for other appliance issues and repairs. He is always friendly, responsive, and punctual. He is also very honest, and I would not hesitate to contact him for future jobs or recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Our washing machine was making a horrendous noise during the drain cycle. Brooke diagnosed the issue and replaced the drain pump.

+ -1 moreI called A-1 on Monday and spoke to Brooke about my front loading washer not working. I described the noise to him and he told me what he thought it might be. He said he would tell me if the repair would be practical. I also asked me to look at the ice maker in the refrigerator which hadn't worked for a couple of years. We made an appointment for the following day. He arrived well within the scheduled time block. I was not able to be at home during the appointed time so my daughter showed him the washer. He spun the barrel and determined that it had split from the frame. It was beyond repair. He then looked at the ice maker. He determined the problem was in the water line. He made the tap hole larger and put the ice maker back together. He then spoke to m, on the phone, about the washer and why it wasn't practical to fix it. He also addressed the difference between front loaders and top loaders and why he though a top loader was a better investment. He told me the ice maker should work ok and to let him know if after 24 hours it wasn't making ice. He didn't charge me for looking at the washer because he didn't have to 'take a tool off the truck.' The repair charge to fix the ice maker and the trip charge seemed reasonable.
Description of Work: Our washer started making banging noises on Saturday and wouldn't spin the water out of the clothes.

+ -1 moreI called A-1 Appliance Repair when items in my GE side by side refrigerator began to freeze in the vegetable drawer and on one of the shelves. I talked with Brooke on the phone, and after explaining my problem, he was 99% sure that the damper door had broken on the Defusser Assembly. He wanted to order the part before he came so that he wouldn't have to make two trips to my house. I called on a Friday and he said he would be able to get the part on Monday and he would come first thing Tuesday morning. He assured me that the freezer side would continue to run just fine. He made a followup call on Monday morning to let me know he would be picking up the part in the afternoon and he would be at my house between 8:30 and 9:30 Tuesday morning. He called me at 8:30 Tuesday morning to let me know he would be at my house within the half hour. After he removed the Defusser Assembly, he showed me where the damper door was broken. Within an hour he had replaced the part and was on his way. The entire experience was wonderful Brooke was prompt, friendly, courteous and very professional. He was extremely neat and respected my property. I liked the fact that he is the owner and repair person. Also, I appreciated that he gave a one hour time frame that he would be coming to my home, instead of a three to four hour time frame like most other companies do. He was right on the price that he quoted on the phone. I would definitely use him again and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs an appliance repairman!

I called around 7:45 this morning and Brooke arrived around 10 or 10:30. He was extremely professional, very pleasant, and quickly fixed my washer. I will definitely call him again if any of our appliances break in the future. He has my highest recommendation!!

+ -1 moreI couldn't be happier with this service experience. I felt that Brooke was very professional and courteous, but also trustworthy. I always am concerned that a contractor could take advantage of the situation. With his explanations and demonstration of what he was doing to diagnose the problem, I felt complete confidence that he was working thoroughly and honestly. Even though this was late on the weekend and a spur of the moment call, he didn't charge any extra fees or try to price gouge. In fact, I feel he provided a great deal to us because we got the best service we could've hoped for in the time we wanted and for no more than I had hoped to pay. All in all, Brooke is a nice, hardworking guy trying to grow his business with good service and integrity. I would without doubt utilize his services again and recommend him highly to anyone else in need of appliance repair!
Description of Work: My wife discovered everything in our Whirlpool refrigerator was thawing. The refrigerator is 8 yrs old but this is the first problem we've experienced. The motor was running however the refrigerator wasn't cooling. We had contacted another service company and scheduled an appointment, but they never showed and never called. I was very upset and decided to contact another service provider to see if they could help, even on short notice. Luckily (and with a little help from Angie's List), I selected A-1. Brooke (the Owner) answered and was able to come out the same day! Brooke arrived promptly and was very professional and courteous. He inspected the refrigerator and quickly diagnosed the relay had failed. There was a lot of dust on the condenser coils. Brooke vacuumed and blew out the entire condenser area, and cleaned up the entire lot of dust. He replaced the relay and checked the rest of the refrigerator components. He used an amp meter to verify the current draw on the condenser after the relay was replaced to make sure there were no other issues. He stayed to confirm the evaporator was working and the refrigerator was beginning to cool properly again. I appreciate his thoroughness to ensure I would be satisfied with the job he performed. Brooke explained everything, what he was doing and why, along with what I should expect for the life of the refrigerator and what I can do to better maintain it for longer performance. He cleaned up everything and left no mess. The refrigerator is now again running well and cooling.

+ 0 moreBrooke was wonderful, honest & paid great attention to detail. We bought a new refrigerator in 8/09. In 8/10 defrost failed & a part was replaced under warranty. In 12/11 defrost failed again. I called 2 companies rated A on Angies List knowing it was no longer under warranty & wondering if I has a lemon. The 1st guy came out & said the jazz board (or brain) needed replaced & his estimate was about $350. I told him I would call if I wanted him to do it. I looked @ my invoice when a part was replaced under warranty & it was exactly the same part number. Brooke came out & told me I had a problem the freezer drawer. This refrigerator has a bottom drawer freezer. Brooke said he knew that because of the frost location which was on the drawer not @ the return vents. He noted that the rails were uneven that the drawer slides on & it was impossible for the door to close properly. He found that the teeth on the little wheels that slide on the rails were set 1 1/2 teeth different from one another. He set them so they were equal & the door closed perfectly! I always had to push it hard to close & now it closes easily. We did not replace anything & the refrigerator has cooled perfectly according to my thermometer ever since! I believe the teeth on the wheels were set incorrectly @ the manufacturer & it took THREE repairmen to figure it out. If you want a honest & smart repairman call Brooke.

+ -1 moreOur oven decided to quit 5 days before Christmas and we were hosting a party 2 days before that. We called two different appliance repair companies with high marks from Angie's List. When we called the 1st one we got an answering machine stating that due the holidays their schedule was very full but they would call us back. We left a message and then called A-1. We told them what we thought was wrong and they suggested that repair was likely possible but we may want to consider a new oven. With the holiday rapidly approaching and post holiday bills right behind that we opted for the repair. He gave us an estimate over the phone and we scheduled an appointment for three hours later that same day. He showed up on time and performed the work for the estimated price. We felt they were very professional, very prompt and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Our oven had quit working and it needed an new ignitor. We were hosting a party in three days and Christmas was two day later and I was walking out the door on a two day business trip. We didn't have the time or money to go shopping for a new oven or to attempt the repair myself. We needed professional and quickly.

+ -1 moreCalled A1 Appliance Repair when I determined that my refrigerator stopped working (on Thanksgiving of all days). Called other repair shops the following day (Friday), but only A1 worked me into their schedule to come out the next day (Saturday). Brooke (owner of A1) showed up at the exact time he said he would (called in advance to let me know he was on his way), came in, determined the problem (fan motor stopped working), said he would have to leave to pick up the required part, showed back up promptly, and completed the work. Not only did he do a great job at a reasonable price, and on top of his responsiveness, he was very nice and professional! Explained exactly what he was doing, and when he was done, explained how it all worked and the best say to setup my refrigerator once it was back up and running. I was very impressed with his service to say the least. I would highly recommend this gentleman to anyone who needs appliance repairs.
Description of Work: A1 came onsite to determine why refrigerator stopped working - determined it was a bad fan motor that could be easily fixed. From there he had to go pick up the part, was back in a jiffy, and quickly finished the install and had the refrigerator up and running in no time.

+ -1 moreExcellent experience. The company owner (Brooke) came to my house the same morning I called. He was honest, efficient, and knowledgeable. My Maytag washer was not working. I described all of the "symptoms" and based on what I described, he predicted what he would see when he removed the back of the machine and it was just as he had predicted. He told me that it would cost hundreds of dollars to repair and advised me to purchase a new machine. He even recommended what type (Whirlpool top loading HE). He is extremely knowledgeable. He also told me I was overloading my washer, not to open the dryer mid cycle and other helpful information. I would highly recommend him to anyone to needs appliance repairs.
Description of Work: Service call to see why my 7 year old front loading Maytag washer was not working. He charged me a flat service fee, diagnosed the problem and was on his way in less than 30 minutes. Great experience.

Description of Work: My refrigerator/ freezer stopped cooling the Sunday before the Monday Labor Day holiday. I wasn’t sure if the refrigerator/ freezer could be repaired or if it needed replaced and I wanted professional advice. I called several appliance repairmen, but only reached answering machine messages saying that that they were closed for the holiday, and then I called A-1 Appliance Repair. Brooke was working Labor Day and walked me through what to do. He asked great questions – age of fridg/freeze and “symptoms”, made a recommendation to replace rather than repair (although he was willing to come out to confirm), and shared brands he recommended purchasing and why.

Description of Work: The Jenn-Air side-by-side refrigerator in our recreation room completely stopped cooling and all the food on the refirgerator side was warm and the freezer side was quickly thawing. We discovered that a thick layer of frost & ice formed that covered all the vents in the back of the freezer and the inside of the refrigerator was now room temperature. I called A-1 (Brooke) that same day, yesterday, based on the reviews in Angie's List. Brooke (owner) called me back within 15 minutes, and diagnosed the potential problems, giving several scenarios. He also provided all costs for each of those potential problems. I also told him this was not our primary refrigerator, so it was not an emergency. Brooke then suggested to completely defrost the refrigerator and then turn it on, after everything was thawed, 12-14 hours prior to his coming out. He then proceeded to schedule an appointment for the following morning, which was today. Brooke provided me with a time, called me 15 minutes prior to arriving, and was here right on time. Brooke quickly and professionally diagnosed the problem, checked everything, and much to our surprise - he actually had all the potential parts (unlike most other contractors we have recently dealt with) , including another circuit board for our model which he discovered was faulty in our case. He tested and installed the defective circuit board that corrected the problem we had, and had the refrigerator cooling efficiently before he left an hour and a half later... Brooke was very professional, cleaned up after himself, respected our home, and most important, he fixed the problem quickly and completely. The refrigerator is now running efficiently and cooling. Another pleasant surprise was the price. He quoted one price on the phone, and when he came out, due to the refrigerator being completely thawed, his time at our home was minimal, so his charge was approximately $60 less than his estimate! I would definitely call A1 Appliance Repair again for any appliance repair issues, and, I will recommend Brooke and his company to my friends and neighbors.

+ -1 moreWe have a 13 year old washer that we thought the belt broke on this morning because we smelled burning rubber. I called and left a message for Brooke and he called me back within 15 minutes which was very fast! I was completely impressed that he was completely honest with me and explained everything that was probably going wrong with my washer. He then proceeded to tell me that the life span on my washer typically is about 8-12 years so that if it were him, he would just buy a new one and not waste my money on the repair. That earned my business for the future because he was honest with me and explained thoroughly why he felt this way and he is not making dime off of me because of my situation. if i have a problem in the future with my new washer, i will ONLY consider these guys! honesty is hard to find these days with repair men. They usually are out to get the service call and then you end up getting in over your head in costs or they just come and tell you they can't fix it or you have to buy a new one.thanks Brooke! Amy

Brooke was very honest and open about all the options that were available to us (including ones where we would have not made any money). Would use again if the need arises, and I highly recommend!
