Description of Work: I had three companies come out about a leak in my basement and they were the only ones who found out where the leak came from. The other two wanted to charge me $10k for a new cement patio I did not need.

Great experience.
Description of Work: We had three kitchen ceilin lights removed and a new piece of track lighting installed. We also had two can lights installed which was not part of the original plan, but which was easily accommodated. In addition we had a new mosaic glass and travertine backsplash installed. Also the ceiling, walls, and trim were painted. Great job, good suggestions made to us during the process and the kitchen was left clean after each day. Great experience!

When he put in the toilets we were concerned about his measurements and how to plates would look, however, it turned out great. Everything turned out better than I imagined. His attention to detail was phenomenal. It reminded me of one of those hom shows on TV. I would recommend.
Description of Work: He was hired to replace 3 toilets and replaced the back door and frame.

The contract was cancelled because the contractor refused to provide advance notification when the project would start. We were asking for at least one day advance notification so we could be present during installation. He told us "thats not going to happen". He said, what are you going to do, "Micro manage us and stand over our backs". We simply just wanted to be home during the installation After the conversation he told me to put it in writing to cancel the contract, so the next day we sent a letter via certified mail to the address listed on the contract. We found out a week later that the letter was never receipted for because he left out the part that he recently purchased Schmidt Building and Remodeling and they now have a new address (his address). He also told me that he purchased the business with "negative income and negative assets" and would not be able to return my deposit. Schmidt Building and Remodeling IS NOT a "A" Rated company with the BBB. Nor is he certified or a member. Go on line and see for yourself. This company is associated with SMP construction and Padgett Builders, Walter-Scott LLC, and American Made Contractors. Do your research.
Description of Work: The contract was to add approx. 473 SF of concrete in extend backyard patio. No service was performed because the contract was cancelled.

Response from Schmidt Building & Remodeling
Our response Member signed an agreement to pour concrete at his residence. He was given a tentative time date to start the work. He was told that we had two projects in front of him and he was next. He was told that he would be notified when we were going to start the site work. The project was put in our files as ready to start and preliminary on site evaluations, men acclimation and administrative procedures had already started and been performed. Member called the day after we had been on his property to do site evaluation , confirmation of work site conditions and place a job site sign. He said that he noticed that we had been to his property and wondered why , because he did not request us to and that we were to call prior to starting the work. We explained to him that administration procedures where necessary in order to determine a physical start date and that his project had been started essentially and we would call him to tell him when we would start the site work. Now everyone- remember this is in May of 2011 when we had a lot of rain. The site needs to be fairly dry and there cannot be any rain foretasted for two days so that we may insure that the concrete does not get wet after pouring it. He requested a one or two day notice before we start digging out for the patio and sidewalk. Being the time of the year - ( rainy season) we told him that it would be difficult to do so, because sometimes we need to schedule this kind of work based on weather predictions and chance, but we would try to do our best. We also told him that the digging and forming would be there for his approval before we poured the concrete. He said this was not acceptable and wanted to cancel the order. We said that would be fine and that he needed to follow procedures according to the contract. That is any changes or request must be made in writing. His deposit would be returned minus any cost our company incurred to date . This process usually takes 30 days and it would probably be sooner. He was told if he did not due so then he would not get his return deposit procedures started and he would receive no money until then. A week had gone by and we had not received anything from him. We then spoke with him again ,telling him we needed the request letter from him . He said he sent it, but it was verified that he sent it to an incorrect address. We then asked him to email us with verified signature receipt so we could start processing his deposit return. He did so and we have started his return procedures and he should be getting a return check minus expenses soon. He became irate and said he should not have to wait. He also said he was going to bad mouth our company to all agencies. We told him that he would get his return, to just be patient. We at Schmidt Co. has an (A) rating with the BBB. and in know way have ever tried to be difficult , or denied any client a due process for any dispute and have been attentive in all customer related matters. Now remember- a word to the public..... contractors and business get unfair complaints due to the unreasonable and demanding behavior from the Public -( the customer). The old saying that " the customer is always right " is not true. . In this case, our business is right and the customer is wrong. Member is being unreasonable and did not even wait for the return process to start before he started complaining. We are sorry that the relationship did not work because of his demanding ways, but we will continue to proceed with return settlement procedures as per our contract and policies. We hope the public understands this issue as and unfortunate insident and that we will do everything in the future to resolve these matters more quickly. We have been in business for a long time and have never come across a customer like Member before and have never had a issues such as this. In conclusion our firm will handel a resoulution to this issues so that all parties involved are satisfied. Sincerely SMP Schmidt Co.
