I worked with Destry Duncan who was very sincere about his work. Destry pointed out several concern areas with my yard before the sod was installed. I was so comfortable with Duncan Sod that I insisted they do the final grade of the lot as well as the sod installation. Destry offered several suggestions for improving the grade of the lot to prevent water problems. The yard looks great.
Description of Work: Duncan Sod put in the sod for my new house.

The crew arrived at first weather break in early April, as promised. A small walk-behind sod-cutter machine was used to strip off all the existing grass and damaged folliage from the area. This was followed by the addition of about 1-inch of high quality topsoil which was hand applied and raked to grade. Then soil supplements were added including gypsum to help break up clay content and rebalance the Ph, plus high nitrogen fertilizer. Then fresh sod, a predominantly medium blade fescue blend with a small amount of Kentucky Blue -- which had been cut from their established sod farm fields less than 12 hours previously -- was expertly laid and blended into the existing landscaping and lawn. The work involved two days of preparation and grading with a crew of 3 to 4 men, including Destry and his brother, plus an additional day to lay the sod and do some spot-dethatching, strip reseeding and fertilizing in the remainder of my drought and winter damaged 4500 sq. ft. total lawn. The crew was very conscientious about neatness, even to the point of spreading a large tarp under their work truck to keep leaking oil and topsoil spatter off the driveway. They also completely cleaned up their work area after each day of work. They subsequently also surprised me with an unexpected visit two weeks after the sod was layed with a spot treatment of the new lawn for any embedded weeds that came with the sod. Destry also committed that he would stop by every couple of weeks through the summer to ensure that the new lawn was growing and looking as good as expected. The sod was a perfect match for the original 24-year old established lawn and blended readily with the remaining front and side yard transitions. Within two weeks (thanks to more-than plentiful April rains), the yard looks plush and green and equal or better than the original. (See photos) And Destry Duncan's service proves why he is the pick of Homarama and other commercial developments, as well as private consumers. And it also serves as proof that early spring sod replacement is a very opportune time to do this type of lawn restoration.
Description of Work: Due to the severe drought last summer, and over fertilizing by another contractor (who applied fertilizer by calendar rather than by need), my back yard lawn and portions of one side yard lawn were barren with less than 30% coverage of clumpy uneven grass remaining. The areas of concern are also heavily shaded in the summer and are sloped and suffer damage by water erosion from periodic storms. I was referred to Destry Duncan (owner), by another lawn care company that I had found on the Internet for lawn restoration, and also sought and received quotes from two other Angie's List companies. Duncan Sod totally was the hands down winner, both in terms of knowledge and responsiveness to the job requested. Price was slightly higher than the others, but considering the responsiveness, extra detail, and additional services provided, his was by far the best proposal. After looking at the yard (about 2200 sq.ft.) Destry recommended and quoted two options: Striping and reseeding the area with topsoil supplementation, grading and straw covering; OR similar preparation followed with re-sodding. Though sodding was somewhat more expensive, I opted for the resodding due to the need to get a lawn established quickly before the shade trees fully leafed out and to avoid the wash-out of seed during our typical spring rains -- not to mention the need for two good seasons to obtain a thick plush lawn after reseeding.
