It went real fast! he has to knock out jobs as weather permits and move on to the next. he will be back next year to keep my deck looking good for a long long time.
Description of Work: Mark pessure washed the deck one day and several days later when the deck was dry, returned the apply the Behr stain/sealer. it looks great and I barely saw him. he is fast (about 1hr pressure wash/1+ hour staining), efficient and you don't even have to be present. he will be back on a yearly basis to check on the deck. I am really glad my wife saw his add :)

I realize accidents happen--but never having informed me of the 5 gallons of paint spilled on my driveway --having to deal with that mess that evening (sopped up paint that I could with blankets) because he did not answer my calls for 21/2 hours -never coming out to see the 'mess'--having the employee who had come the next day to clean up( and it had been working but couldn/t stay to complete the clean up) leave after only one hour to do another job--not being able to contact him in an expedicious manner showed me that anyone who deals with deck works has to be ready for an abominable experience --- stay clear away. I called Mark with Continental Painting and Home Improvements--absolutely excellent---cleaned up the mess-painted my deck and he is dependable/professional and THE BEST
Description of Work: was to stain my deck-arrived home to 5 gallons of paint spilled on my driveway (which I had not been informed of)-and a bill for 639 dollars but my deck had not been stained. called owner mark carter for 2 1/2 hours---finally returned my call. never came out to see damage-sent employee following day-stayed for one hour and left--had to call someone to 'finish cleaning up their mess' and to properly stain my deck.

Terrible experience. I attempted to have DeckWorks pressure wash and stain my deck. They said that they would be out by the end of the week to make an estimate and then leave it on the front porch. They never came so I called back to inquire. When I did so on a Saturday the person on the phone told me that the office was closed (despite that he had answered) and that I could leave a message or call back during normal working hours. I of course left a message. I received an email later from the owner asking again what the estimate was for and if it was for a rebuild since my deck looked in really bad shape. I replied back stating that it was for a pressure wash and stain and that my deck was only 5 years old. Subsequently he informed me that it would then need a chemical stripping and that was not a service they provided. Consequently, I contacted another provider and none of the above applied. Would not do business with them!

We first directly communicated our complaints to Deck Works. On June 8th, we registered a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. As of the filing of this report to Angie?s List, the status of that compliant is currently ?The time limit has exceeded while waiting for a response from the business?? Our complaints with the service provided by Deck Works is as follows: 1) There were several areas on the deck (5-6) where bird droppings on the deck were NOT REMOVED before the weatherproofing product (Behr) was applied to the deck. I specifically called Deck Works a couple days after they performed their cleaning services to ask how the new bird droppings would be removed before applying the Behr product. I was told they would be wiped off before the application. This did not happen but could?ve easily been avoided. 2) There are several areas (vertical railing spindles, rim joists, & the main center steps) that have dried drip marks where the Behr product was applied. These marks did not exist prior to Deck Works service. Again, I feel this could?ve been avoided had the job not been rushed through. Using a paint brush or roller to backroll the application of the product where necessary could?ve avoided this issue. 3) There were several areas in close proximity to our deck where the stain was over sprayed and applied to non-wood surfaces. These areas included an outdoor speaker, some areas of brick on our house, and surrounding grass/dirt areas around the deck. Again, I feel this could have been easily prevented by taking the time to either using a drop cloth OR by applying the product with a roller or brush to those areas closest to the house and ground. 4) Although we can?t specifically prove it we also question whether two coats of the product was actually applied to our deck. Our rationale for this suspicion is as follows: Deck Works spent approximately 90 minutes on site the day they performed the restoration services. Behr recommends allowing ?1-2 hours dry time before applying the second coat?. So either Deck Works stained our 16x26 deck in 15 minutes, waited an hour, and then applied a 2nd coat in 15 minutes or simply applied the product against the manufacturer recommendations. Additionally, $700 for approximately 2 ½ hours of (sloppy) work (1 hour to clean, 1 ½ hours to apply stain) plus product costs did not seem like a good value. Their website states ?We are consummate perfectionists who take pride in the quality of our work and the superiority of our customer service.? I ask does the work performed on our deck reflect that claim? Deck Works can only be contacted through their answering service. You can only leave a message and hope/wait the call is returned. (An e-mail address is provided but we never did receive a reply to any of our e-mails). Mistakes happen. But what is not acceptable is a company that is unwilling to correct their mistakes and satisfy their customers. In response to the Provider Response (from Feb 21, 2011): 1 - The BBB did post the complaint and eventually closed it out after DeckWorks did not respond to the BBB. We submitted the report to the BBB to try to get resolution. Apparently I wasn't the only one with unresolved issues. The business failed to resolve the complaint issues (6 complaints) 12/16/2011 Problems with Product/Service 8/26/2011 Problems with Product/Service 8/22/2011 Problems with Product/Service 7/25/2011 Problems with Product/Service 8/21/2009 Problems with Product/Service 8/6/2009 Problems with Product/Service 2 - We had another company come out in the Fall of 2011 and they were able to provide deck staining services to our satisfaction for a similar price.
Description of Work: We entered into a contract with Deck Works on April 18, 2009 to have cleaning and restoration services (two coats of a Behr weatherproofing product) provided for our approximate 16x26 wood deck. At this time it was communicated the work would be scheduled for the first week in May. Deck Works arrived on May 8th to clean the deck and returned 12 days later on May 20th to apply the weatherproofing product (Behr) to the deck.

Response from Deck Works Cleaning & Sealing
Upon initial inspection, DECKWORKS estimator found deck to be in extremely poor condition. Estimator advised customer that the deck had previously been stained with a sub-par product and that we would attempt to restore the deck. Customer was advised that the deck may not look as good as expected due to the previous stain used. After completing the work as described and in a timely manner, customer complained of the drip marks. Customer was reminded that he had been advised of these concerns prior to signing the contract. Customer paid after completion of work was performed. Customer remained bitter and chose to "bad mouth" us on BBB and Angie's List. BBB did not post their complaint. Angie's List did not inform us of the complaint.
