The chimney was removed on July 3rd. The opening was covered with a tarp from 07/03/2017 until 07/13/2018. During that time, there was no vent for the gas water heater. We recieved a bill in the mail on 07/11/2018 even though the project was not completed. We called the contractor who apologized and promised that the work would be completed the next day. When I arrived home from work the following day, the job was completed, however, the metal stack that took the place of the chimney was coming out of the roof on an angle. It was not staight up and down. I called the contractor and informed him. He told me to take a picture and send it to him. An hour later, he sent me a photo of what it looked like when his crew had completed the project. In their picture, the stack looked staight. After that they had several conversations with my spouse about why it wasn't staight. Non of which to me seemed logical. As a homeowner, who has no experience in roofing or chimney work, how can I really know if the work is done correctly? Are my expectations too high? Perhaps, I wrongly assumed that the stack would be straight up and down and not on an angle. If I was told that the stack would be on an angle before the contract was signed, I would have found another contractor. I am very disappointed.
Description of Work: A concrete chimney that provided ventilation for the furnace and water heater was cut below the roof line, the opening was covered and metal stack was place to vent the water heater and furnace.

Hello, This is the General Manager. I would be more than happy to discuss the issues with your vent going through the roof. In order for the crew to install a B-vent perpendicular to the roof, he would have to remove a large enough section of roofing to get inside the attic and remove more of the concrete block chimney inside your attic space. As I had previously discussed with your spouse, the roof itself needs to be replaced badly. The shingles are very worn. They are installed on plywood decking that was nailed on top of existing shingles that are in turn nailed into wood shake. The current b-vent can, and will be corrected with the new roof, because we will automatically have to remove all material down to the rafters on the house leaving plenty of access to safely remove more of the chimney to correctly install a new B-vent. If you would like, i can schedule time to meet with you to discuss. Thank you, Steve Klosinski

This company a communication nightmare. Initially everything went well for them to get my business an do the work. After that when they had done most of the work and could collect their money things completely fell apart. The cracks in professionalism started when they were doing the work. When they said they were going to be done I asked about the rain caps and moisture barrier that was also supposed to be done. The guy in charge on site said "someone else" handles that and he doesn't know. Bad sign! After a couple of weeks and me calling them they finally finished the rest of the work. Between that time I was contacting John, who I originally made the plans with. I asked him about the cricket they were supposed to rebuild as part of the plans. He said it was in bad shape, but may not need to be done. I responded and mentioned that I would probably want it done anyway, but got no response from John on whether they would do it or not. The "other guys" came and did the moisture barrier and rain caps, but didn't talk to me or follow-up. I contacted John again about the cricket. Again, no response. Then another problem, I set up financing with them and the loan was for the quoted price, but actual work was about $2,000 less because they didn't need to tear out the whole Chimney. Problem was that Bone Dry took the whole loan amount and not the final cost. So I'm left owing $2,000 more to the finance company than the job cost! I call Bone Dry and tell them not only about John's lack of communication, but also the missing $2,000. They say they should have sent me a check, but some error caused them to miss it. I'm skeptical. Also, they assured me that John and the general manager would be told about the communication problems and I would be contacted. Still never heard from anyone. Then, guess what... another problem!! The check they sent to me was not enough money based on the loan and invoice they finally sent me. I call them and I'm told there was a SECOND invoice for the water seal only that they forgot to send me, and that's why I didn't get the amount I thought I should. Sure would have been nice to have been told that months ago!!! Then when I ask why nobody called me again, I'm told that John did call me. Only I never talked to him, nor do I have his phone number or any voicemails from him on my phone. Maybe he talked to another customer and got me confused, but he didn't talk to me and the person I was talking to didn't seem to care too much about following up on that. She was apologetic about the whole thing, but the damage was done. I wish I could comment on the quality of work, but only time will tell on that issue. Pretty much everything else was a disaster, so I would recommend going with another company that can give a little more personal attention and doesn't pretend you don't exist after they get their check.

Bone Dry was completely unresponsive through phone and email when we wanted to move forward with tuck pointing and repair of our chimney. After the initial visit several days after our request for an estimate to assess the job the Quote was not sent and we had called to follow-up and receive the quote. The quote finally arrived three weeks after the initial assessment, which was more than double the time of other contractors who provided estimates. Since the quote has been received we have emailed our sales contact, Pat, several times, called his direct line and called the main office several more times with no response from Pat directly and the office admin telling us that she would have Pat reach out to us the same day to no avail. This is now more than a month after we have received the quote that we haven’t received a response and almost two months after requesting a quote. Based on their Angie's list reviews and pricing we would have likely chosen them for this work if we would have received any kind of follow-up. However, after dealing with this poor level of service from their sales team I couldn't be confident in the quality of work they would provide on a repair or their ability to respond if unforeseen issues arose during the repair work.

The workmanship is perfect, I did not have any complaint with that. It was the brick I chose not matching the brick that want I to use. There was a problem with discoloration of the brick. I thought that the rain was gonna wash it off but it didn't. I call them. All communication was coming from me, they don't return phone call. Finally got a hold of them and they said they will re-stain the brick. I was scheduled on the end of June and still have not come out to fix it.

Unfortunately the masonry manager has left his position and did not keep track of the promises that were made to the customer. The General Manager, Steve Klosinski, is working on getting someone scheduled to do the staining of the brick. He will be in contact with the customer as soon as he can work out the dates.

The sales person came to our house and provided a quote to replace a specific amount of bricks on our chimney and install a cricket between the roof and chimney. We knew that the chimney was in need of repair when we purchased the house and already obtained one quote for $10k worth of work. The Bone Dry Sales person stayed that the first quote was too high and he could have a crew complete the job for $6400. We agreed and signed th proposal. About four weeks later the crew called and set up a time to do the work. Everything seemed fine until the salesperson called me to say that the crew cannot start the work because 7 additional layers of brick needed to be replaced. The job would cost an additional $2700 on top of the original quote. I told the sales person that we budgeted the work based on the signed agreement and that this was unacceptable and unprofessional. He agreed and stated that he could not do anything about the price because the crew would need to be paid. I told him to send the crew home and email me a new quote with details regarding the new work that needed to be done. It has been one week and no word from Bone Dry Roofing. I think this was a “bait and switch” scam and no one should hire them for work on their home.

Hello [Member Name Removed], We appreciate your feedback. When our specialists come to the home to do an inspection, they try to do everything they can to give a firm proposal for repairs needed to the home. This is a visual inspection only, and sometimes things are missed. We strive to be transparent with our customers every step of the way through the project. It is our practice that when the technician who is sent to the home to do the repairs, they do a secondary inspection to try to make sure that what was proposed covers everything needed. Sometimes in construction you run into issues that are not apparent from the outside that causes the need for more work to be done. Whenever possible we go to the customer before we start the work to make sure they are aware of this. On this job in particular we did not start the work and brought the issue to the customer. The customer then said they would have to get other estimates. We said that is not an issue, we will hold off on production.

Our shingles were at the end of their 25 yr life. Roof was not leaking but wanted to avoid the chance. Big roof took 42 square of shingles. Complete tear off and replace/install in one day. No damage to landscape or house. Added ridge vents which we did not have at the time. Kept us up to date all day as they worked with pictures texted to our cell phones. Biggest plus was that John (estimator) worked with our insurance company and as a result we paid a fraction of the out of pocket costs. Overall a great job. Excellent communications. We checked with a couple of other roofers and their estimated costs were higher than Bone Dry. One other estimator didn't even get on the roof to look at its condition. These outfits also told us some things that were not quite correct after talking with Bone Dry. Neither offered to work with our insurance company. If you need work on your roof at least have Bone Dry give you an estimate.

On Sunday, I noticed a small amount of water dripping from a recess can light in my second floor ceiling. I called Bone Dry at 10 AM the following day and made an appointment for Tuesday at 10 AM. Pat Hesselbrock arrived on time with another Bone Dry employee. Pat listened to my description of the problem and then inspected the attic. He took several photos and a video. He walked me through his assessment after completing the inspection. Pat provided details regarding the depth of attic insulation, attic temperature and whether or not the ventilation was sufficient. His conclusion was that there was condensation in a small part of my attic due to good but less than ideal ventilation in that area. Due to the extreme cold over the past two and a half weeks, the ventilation was not enough to prevent some condensation. Given that it is rare to have extreme cold for that long, he recommended monitoring it versus making a modification to prevent what is likely a very rare event (once in 14 years). I found Pat to be trustworthy and would recommend Bone Dry.

They came out and gave a quote to repair the chimney on Feb 27 2017 while we were purchasing a home as part of our inspection period. On May 1 2017 we had an issue with water entering the basement and thought the chimney might be the cause, we contacted them to see if they had advice for what to do or how to mitigate and they never contacted us back. On September 14 2017 we reached out and told them we were interested in moving forward with the work, but request it be done on October 11 2017. They responded back with a contract and said work would be able to be done Oct 11-13 and that somebody would call with more details. About a week or two later I received a call and was told October 23 2017 was the soonest they could do it. Fine. I took that day off of work, leading up to the appointment I received zero communication from Bone Dry regarding the appointment. On the day of around 10am nobody had shown up yet. I contacted the person who original set the appointment and got a voicemail. I was called back about 30 minutes later and was told they weren't coming out and that the entire team and a manager had quit, the person on the phone didn't seem apologetic or interested in making it right - he said the next date would be November 13 2017. After discussing with my wife we decided to cancel the contract, on October 30th I sent an email to the sales person, the owner, and a manager. I received no response back from any of them. Today (Nov 3 2017) I had to reach out to the sales person over the phone to confirm the contract was canceled. He said that he canceled it as soon as he got my email. I asked him to confirm that in writing to me via email, he said absolutely. He didn't really follow up - I had to send him a second email to get him to confirm in writing.

Roofing was not done to specs stated in the warranty, leaving the possibility that the warranty will not be honored in the future according to the roofing manufacturer. Although company representative came for a walk-around a week after the job was complete, issues raised were not addressed. An attempt to raise concerns about large gaps in wood under shingles resulted in assurances that this was standard practice, although the warranty from the manufacturer stated otherwise. Phone calls and emails to company management went unanswered.
