The quoting process went quickly and was in line with other quotes. Tim suggested several things we hadn't thought of. Upon signing the contract he was very through on the plans and materials. The drawings were great and helped to speed us through the city permitting process. Weather pushed back our start date but was withing 2 weeks of his original estimate. The contractors were very good craftsmen and the finished deck is really good. The design is very solid and there is no movement under our feet.
Description of Work: We need to get our old deck replaced with a larger deck that would include a hot tub. Our yard falls away quickly so we had an unusable back yard.

Details above. It was not what I expected. Sadly, sub-par for a lot of promises.
Description of Work: Used provider many years ago to build deck. Overall lovely job but the decking material had some color differences. Provided said these would age out and fade to all be the same. They did not and still have two tones in the deck. Also, provider subs mismeasured length of long boards for shade tree section of deck and provider did not adjust it, claiming it still looked okay. I have never been happy with the sub-par results. I also called provider to come and repair some warped boards (minor repair). He came last summer and agreed to return and fix deck. He never returned and deck is still not completely repaired. Overall, the work is average or less than average. Provider used different nails in some sections and they have come out or stained decking. We ended up repairing it ourselves. Overall, a lot of money for an average product.

I highly recommend Tim Stephens and Archadeck. Extremely honest and straight-forward. His provides professional, knowledgeable, and dependable service. I could not ask for better. He gave me multiple recommendations on construction; he gave me a very wide choice of options on materials; he is very low pressure; he is very creative and knowledgeable; and has great credentials. He allowed me to easily make all of the choices, without pushing anything on me. He was able to give me all of the pros and cons when I asked questions. All I can say is.....use Archadeck and Tim.
Description of Work: Tim provided an estimate to build a new deck. He recommended the best material for my needs (not just the higher priced materials). He was very honest about what would best meet my needs and very helpful in design. He recommendations were wonderful.

They deconstructed the deck, took down the railing and disappeared for over two weeks now. We are still waiting for them to return. They have been slow in returning phone calls. When we finally spoke to Someone He claimed they could not work in the rain. It has not rained for three days now and there were days last week when it did not rain. Because our deck is on the second story and has no railing, it is unsafe to use. In summary, they have been very unprofessional and a huge disappointment. I highly do not recommend them to anyone.

I apologize that the weather has delayed your project but it is delaying all outdoor projects. We discussed that your project had to be done in stages when you contracted. We are adding onto your existing deck therefore, the old rusty rail had to be removed, the framing had to be extended, the new brick columns built and then we can finish the new handrail between the columns. I discussed initially with Pervis that the masonry work would be subcontracted. It has rained or been muddy almost everyday and the mason has gotten behind. Furthermore, I believe we have returned all messages made to my office and your review of my company is unfairly negative since the circumstances are out of my control. We are working to complete your project as weather permits. I assure you a beautiful deck addition when complete. Again, I'm sorry for the weather delays.

It was a slow project. The quality of the finished deck is very good, but the overall length of the project took longer than it should have. The workers were professional, but were working on another job simultaneously, which slowed down the work on our project.
Description of Work: Removed existing deck boards, added flashing, repaired rotted cedar siding near the deck, placed new deck boards, new stairs, and aluminum railings.

Tim and his crew at Archadeck did a quality job. We are very pleased with the finished project. It was a big job since the roof they put on the deck was very high. Tim gave us good suggestions at the start and was willing to answer any of our questions along the way. The low score on punctuality was because when we first met with Tim in July of 2014 and we were told that they could start mid to late September. This was fine with us, but in reality they didn't get started until after Thanksgiving. It was very frustrating to us to be told they would show up at a certain time and then not do it. We would have to call and would always be given an excuse of some kind. I understand a few delays, that will happen when working outside, but it went on for over two months. Then they were hampered with a problem finding people to work on the job, so it took longer that it should have to complete, finishing up around mid April. Our hats go off to Darryl, the one man who worked through all kinds of weather and having to often work all alone. He was always there and worked so hard from start to finish. All that frustration with starting and the slowness of the work aside, they did a great job and we are very pleased with the final result and have spent much time enjoying our beautiful deck and patio. However we probably would not hire them again because of the frustration we experienced.
Description of Work: Built a covered deck, walkway, and patio with benches and a firepit.

This is the second time in about 20 years that we have used Archadeck for a home improvement project, and although the local franchise is now under different ownership, the end result was the same: A beautiful, custom-designed and well-built project that we are proud of and meets our living needs even better than we expected. I'll get the bad news out of the way first, though: Custom construction is nothing like buying something from the big box store and bringing it home; there are just too many unpredictable variables in play, especially around timing. Due to weather and delays on previous commitments, our project took five months to start and three months to complete, and the waiting became frustrating. Once our crew started our project, though, they were almost exclusively dedicated to it through its completion, and made steady progress. We paid a quarter of the total cost at the initial signing, but I'd suggest negotiating that payment down to shift more of it toward the work once it is actually in progress. Archadeck really specializes in creating beautiful, interesting, and functional customized designs, and the company has an incredibly rich experience and design portfolio to work from. Tim listened really, really well to our desires for the project, how we wanted to use it, and the problems we had experienced with the existing structure, and presented us with a design that addressed all of that as well as suggesting features and options that we hadn't thought of. Ultimately, the cost was at the upper limit of our budget, but the design was very compelling. As a sanity check, we also got a quote from another large local home improvement builder, and got similar numbers for what we felt was a much inferior design -- basically a prefab Florida room and deck. The price still feels a bit high, but as a premium for excellent design and quality it seems well worth it. Actual construction went pretty smoothly and steadily, but seemed slow and meticulous at times. The two-man crew generally paid careful attention to detail, including the quality of materials, and I was very impressed with their expertise and workmanship. They accommodated all of my requests along the way, and made sure that everything was done the way we wanted it. In the end, everything appears to be very well made, using high quality materials, and is backed by strong warranty from a strong company. We are absolutely delighted with our purchase.

We signed the contract for this project on 5/8/2014. The 20-plus weeks that followed were frustrating to say the least and, due to our experience, we would not in good conscience recommend Archadeck. We were told that they had several crews working for them, and work on our project should start in approximately 6 to 8 weeks. After 8 weeks and hearing nothing, we called Archadeck on 7/8/14 and were told construction would possibly start in two weeks. Two more weeks passed, heard nothing. On 7/24/14 we called again for an update and were told our crew was delayed on a current job due to weather and it would be another two weeks, but we were next on the schedule. Almost three more weeks passed, we called again on 8/12/14 and were told our crew was still not done with their current job, but another crew may be able to start our deck. Two weeks later, on 8/28/14, the post holes were finally dug. The deck framework was not done until the week of 9/15, and the rest of the deck was not finished until 9/25/14. We’ve done many home improvements over the past twenty years and this experience was the worst. Although the workmanship was fine when the deck was finally completed, communication from Archadeck throughout the project was fair/poor at best. We spent a sizeable amount of money on this project and feel that Archadeck should have been in contact with us to keep us updated on the project, instead of us having to continually call them to see what the delays were.

While she was very nice, I had called and emailed and it took several weeks to receive the estimate. I felt the quote also was high.
Description of Work: They provided a quote to replace about 20 boards. The quote was for treated wood. I also asked for an estimate for composite material as well and only recall seeing one quote for treated wood.

Thank you contacting us but unfortunately I think you must have missed some of the telephone messages left for you or emails sent to you. I have checked our sent emails and message logs and found the following: six (6) business days after the initial appointment you were sent an email (replying to your email stating you were unable to forward the ideas received 8/29/14, 4 days after initial appointment) outlining the scope of work and costs. This email consisted of much more than the "20 boards" you stated, there were two (2) options. A landing with cascading steps and a landing with a step to a lower deck, both options had the cost associated with it. Furthermore, in the email the office telephone number was provided and an invitation to visit the office to look at materials. We received a telephone message from you on September 15th which we returned and left a message the next day on September 16th and we never received further communication from you. I am sorry you felt as if you didn't receive adequate attention. Customer service is very important to us and after review as the company's owner I feel we met all reasonable efforts but appreciate the feedback on your perception. I wish you luck on your project.

I was pleased with the friendliest interaction we've had but I haven't experienced the final work and the products yet. They came out and gave me an estimate, took measurements, and discussed options then we went to their office to look at the architectural design that he came up with and actually today we're going to where they buy their pavers from. We decided to add something to it so no problem is coming out next week to give us cost of adding some stairs to location we were thinking of and we put a third down on the work to secure their services on time on August. We were happy with it. I would certainly highly recommend them. I would use them again in the future.

The deck is made of a composite material so it is very low maintenance; which is what we wanted. It was expensive due to this, but we knew that going in. Tim has great ideas and works within the budget that you set with him at the initial meeting. The construction crew consisted of two men who were so professional you did not even know they were around. I would highly recommend consulting with and using Tim and Archadeck.

We are very happy with the finished deck. It's safe, sturdy, and attractive. The quality and workmanship was very good. The only disappointment was how long it took. We put down our deposit in April 2013 and work didn't begin until August 2013. It took approximately 6 weeks to complete the deck and repair rotted cedar siding they discovered during the construction process.
Description of Work: Took off old deck boards and railings; replaced rotted cedar siding & rotted plywood with Tyvek, new plywood, and new cedar siding as needed; added flashing; constructed new deck on existing structure (pressure treated wood with aluminum railings).
