I enlisted the services of the Beard Group in October of 2012, to address five full pages of issues identified by the city inspector that we needed to take care of in order to be in compliance. Some of the issues were more cosmetic but others were quite substantial. As I live in a different state, 360 miles from where my mother resided, I needed to entrust my mom's home to them while they worked and needed to be able to have confidence in them to get the work done. These fellows were great to work with. They kept in regular touch with me during the times when I could not be present there; they did their best to keep the costs down while ensuring that the jobs got done properly. They had a good working relationship with the city inspection office and were able to get clarification directly from the inspector when they had questions about some of the items on the list. Their subcontractors also did their jobs efficiently and in good time. The entire job took longer than any of us had hoped mostly because there were times when they could not proceed until I had the opportunity to get there to clean out things. Some of the exterior work was also delayed simply because of weather conditions, but once the temperatures were high enough, and once I gave them the go-ahead, they were right back to work. The reason for my assigning them a B grade for quality is simply reflective of the fact that I asked them to do what was minimally necessary for compliance; it has nothing to do with what they are capable of! Where I needed them to do a great job, they did! The work included interior painting, drywalling, removing wall papers, replacing electrical outlets, installing smoke alarms, replacing windows in the basement, replacing an asphalt garage floor with a concrete floor, replacing and repainting exterior fascia, cutting back foliage, just to name some of it. The Beards were always professional, very responsive, flexible, and helpful; I would use them again without hesitation were I living in that area and I recommend them without hesitation.
Description of Work: The Beard Group was hired to handle repairs to my mother's home in order to bring it into compliance in preparation for sale.

Discovered a few problems (rot, moisture) upon tearing up the floor. Company repaired what was immediately needed and returned later to finish up work related to outside moisture getting in (flashed intersection of porch floor and siding - including two courses of new cedar shingles). Floor (like most in Cleveland Heights) looked like a sine wave, but the finished tile looks great with no noticable lippage. Quality is top notch as usual. Any concerns were dealt with prompty and Chris and Jason ensured that we were happy down to the last detail. The company is very busy, so flexibility (especially for smaller jobs) is necessary - but rewarded with excellent quality and service. Very pleased with the end result, as per usual.
Description of Work: Tore out old linoleum kitchen, hall, and bathroom floor. Installed new subfloor and ceramic tile. Also replaced Formica backsplashes with tile.

I was very very excited to work with the beard group. I had a long list of projects and I thought having one place to call for everything would be great. I contacted them and they responded promptly. Jason came over within a week and while there his brother joined him. I gave them a detailed list of the things I wanted done. We went through the house. Jason sent me an estimate to which I responded with some corrections. The plan was as people came off other jobs they would come and start on my jobs. A few weeks went by and nothing. I contacted Jason and gave him a list of must do and finally got some things started. Then a few weeks would go by and I had to contact him and push to get more jobs taken care of. One project took a while to get started and that was completely my responsibility because I did not get the vanity and top for a while but getting most things done was like pulling teeth and over half of the things on my list were not done. The run down on the jobs and quality Was to take broken storm window and replace glass. They took it and never replaced the glass and now deny having ever had it. I suspect they threw it away. Now I have to have someone make me a new one. Was to refinish a wooden storm that had rain damage. They took the door. A year later I had to contact Jason. Took two emails but finally they returned it having done nothing to it. Fixed a leak in a shower but when I checked the work had created a different leak that would have been very pricey to fix. It happens in old houses but would prefer not to discover on my own. Had very slow tub. Suggested they clean the trap which they did. Left the trash that was behind the radiator they had to remove and just left it in my sons room. I assume they cleaned the trap but the tub is not faster. Removed and replaced a bathroom vanity. Did a nice job but failed to mention that when they took out the old vanity it exposed broken tiles. The backsplash did not go up high enough to cover the tiles and the mirror did not come down far enough. So there I was with a hole in my wall. Would have thought they would have mentioned it. I had to figure out how to put in some tiles to cover it up. Tihis would have been far easier if it was done before the vanity was replaced. It also would have been nice for me not to discover it on my own. Did not do a good job cleaning up afterwards. Was supposed to fix short in track lighting and a ceiling light. I came home to electrical tape on the track and the ceiling light left out. They had trouble "out sourcing". While I appreciated not having to pay for them to find the parts it would have been nice to get a call instead of coming home to half completed work. Some positives. Good choice of toilets, replaced nicely but wish I wasn't finding metal rods that came with it around them house. Great recommendation on the glass bricks and nice job replacing. Rebuilt kitchen faucet and works well. Had an emergency with water coming fpdown my ceiling. Emailed Jason and got a rapid reply. They came out next day and pulled down ceiling and were able to confirm it was not a burst pipe. Fixed ceiling at a later date. I think if you had one big remodel they might be good or if you had a single job they might be good, but over all I don't think they were particularly interested in doing my work. I thought with the long a detailed list they would be able to just work thru them but for me it was too much pushing to get stuff done. I ended up doing many things myself and still have others not yet done. disappointing.
Description of Work: Electrical -- replaced some outlets, short in track lighting (not completed), fix ceiling light (not completed), sealed outside faucet Plumbing -- fixed leaking faucet in sink and bathroom, cleaned out trap for tub, changed shower heads, fixed dripping bathtub (but created a new one), replaced 2 toilets, removed and replaced bathroom vanity Installed glass bricks in 2 windows Pulled down wet ceiling where water had leaked and repaired. Response from The Beard Group Ltd
As we all know, there are two sides to every story. The scope of work was a moving target and seemed to change daily. We were very responsive to this client and have several emails indicating how "thrilled " she was with the work as various tasks were completed. What went wrong here is that when we sent an invoice to be paid for work completed to date, the dialogue went quiet and it took three reminders and 60 days to secure payment. Those terms are completely unacceptable to us so we stopped working for this person. We returned her door when she finally contacted us a YEAR later. As for a storm window...she asked us to throw away a shattered glass window that was sitting in her garage, which we did. Like we said...the scope of work changed daily.
The job was for a renovation of our condominium. There was work done in every room, including two baths, the kitchen, the bedroom, den, and living room. Much of this was messy, and living in the space through this was a bit challenging. They did a good job of coordinating their work with mine, and with other tradespeople involved. All of the work was completed on time, and the job came in on budget even with some changes along the way. Most of the work was first class; some less so, but was corrected when brought to their attention. All of the craftspeople were easy to work with, and I believe all were committed to pleasing their client (we are very fussy). The work took several months to complete, and because I was doing some of the finish work and painting, the remodeling wasn't completed until the end of 2012 - beginning of 2013. The end result was what we wanted, and we were very pleased. This was the first time we ever hired a company to do this amount of work, and so I have no previous experience to compare. My only criticism, and it's small, is at times I felt a bit rushed. That said, the overall experience was very good, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Carpentry work, including replacing a door frame, making cabinet shelves, replacing shoe molding. Electrical work including moving outlets, and related electrical work with appliance installation, installing new light in kitchen over sink. Drywall repair and finishing. Painting of kitchen cabinets. Plumbing work, including new hot water tank, new sink & shower faucets in two baths, new kitchen sink & faucet, dishwasher installation, removal of old garbage disposal. Ceramic tile installation in part of one bath and general grout repair.

There are times when Thank You just can't express the deep gratitude. The Beard Group had renovated my kitchen and several other projects in our house a year ago. Then, our home was significantly damaged by the Hurricane (Superstorm). There is nothing more frightening than a lot water rushing into your house - coming through the roof and ceiling of multiple rooms, and dripping through the walls and pouring out light fixtures! The rain went on for days and to make matters worse, all the roofers in town were inundated with emergency calls and not calling back. On the night of the hurricane, Chris and Jason Beard and their crew came to our rescue - doing everything to try to secure the place, disconnecting electricals, re-routing the pouring water, and even climbing up 30 feet at night during the storm to try to put a temporary patch on the roof - when no one else would (I must have called a 2 dozen roofing companies). Well, fast forward 4 months later, our house is a now a secure and beautiful home. The Beard Group made all the repairs and renovation, a new bathroom and not to mention putting back together every detail of our dream kitchen renovated one year earlier. The message I want to convey is that there are many renovation companies but few are gems like The Beard Group. Yes their craftsmanship is top-notched, and their punctuality is exact, but their service can only be described as extraordinary. If you ever have to go through repair from natural disasters, feeling whole again is not just putting the bricks back together but knowing that you are being taken of.

Jason and Chris were great to work with. This was an extensive upgrade including a large air tub and in-the-wall toilet. As the job progressed, and modifications to the original plan were needed, their team (led by the foreman, Donald) were always able to accommodate adjustments. The bathrooms turned out fantastic and I'm looking forward to more projects with The Beard Group.

This Beard Group could not have been more professional or proficient. Our experience could not have been better. The attention to detail was impressive, and the quality of work was jaw-dropping. Each night we returned home to marvel at the high level of the work that had been done. When we encounted a problem with deteriorated pipes serving a bathroom unrelated to the project, Jason Beard suggested a cost-efficient solution that did not impede the job. What impressed us the most was Jason's staff. Dan, his all-around handyman and carpenter, was astounding in the breadth of his talent and the quality of his work. Dave the plumber is a fast worker whose work is flawless. Justin the electrician is a magician, weaving unwieldy wiring into a beautiful display that, sadly, gets hidden behind the drywall. And Chris the painter is a friendly soul (our golden retriever loves him) who was helpful with advice and took obvious pride in doing the best job possible. Jason and Chris Beard have attracted the best talent around. We could not feel better about having them come into our home every day to do the work. The Beard Group performs at the highest level for fair price. It's clear that the firm's reputation is spreading. If you've got a project, get on their calendar. You will be glad you did.
Description of Work: The Beard Group performed a full kitchen remodel for us, including the removal of a wall, the bumping out of an exterior wall to create more space, entirely new electric, plumbing, lighting and flooring. The project included full demolition and installation of new insulation, walls and ceiling. It also included the relocation of a stack pipe to create more space, installation of cabinets, countertops, appliances and tile, as well as the relocation of the exterior door and removal of a window.

We were extremely pleased. Their estimate and final cost were the same. The workers who did the job were friendly, dog-tolerant (!), hard working and very professional. They gave us options, when necessary and explained what they were doing as they went along. From the initial estimate to the invoice email that asked whether we had anything we were concerned about, we were happy with the whole experience and wouldn't hesitate to use this group again.
Description of Work: Provided free estimate beforehand. Took out old tile and replaced with new in front entranceway. Determined source of leak from master bathroom, regrouted and recauked tub area. Replaced damaged ceiling plaster in two areas and matched textured ceiling to rest of house. Replaced drum trap below shower/tub.

I sustained water damage from a roof leak due to the storm (Sandy) the end of October 2012. My upstairs closet, living room ceiling, wall and floor & basement ceiling were damaged. This was covered by my homeowner's insurance. I located the Beard Group on Angie's List and contacted them via email to schedule an estimate on Nov 8. Chris Beard responded the same day and we scheduled the estimate for 9 AM 11/20. Mr. Beard was here right on time and reviewed the damaged areas thoroughly, including noting some staining in the living room ceiling that I had missed previously. Their estimate was received very promptly. The estimate was high and due the work being covered by insurance I did not select this company. I was very impressed when I called to advise them I would be working with a different contractor and after leaving my voicemail got a call back within 30 minutes to inquire if they could have done anything better or differently. I would definitely recommend this company and have kept their information if I need work done in the future.

Plumber was very professional, taking shoes off at door, etc. He diagnosed the problem quickly & accurately. The only issue I had was a misunderstanding on the phone about the nature of the problem so he didn't have all the proper tools with him. He spent about two hours snaking the drain & about 15 minutes replacing the valve. Overall a great experience & everything works like it should now.

Thanks for this review. We appreciate it! One point to clarify...$40 of the total cost was for parts specific to the plumbing fixture. I don't believe there was any confusion about scope of work. We simply can't stock parts for every single brand and make of plumbing fixture. Usually we must see the compnent before procuring replacement parts. Considering that, you'd be hard pressed to find a licensed plumber to perform 2 1/2 hours of work including materials for what we charged. We might be the most affordable plumbing solution in town!

The space looks very nice, clean, professionally done. The space is useable once again. Job was delivered as promised. Would have welcomed more direction on some of the materials selected, such as bifold doors which seem a little flimsy. Was sent to pick out floors on my own, which worked out fine, but more accustomed to contractors handling this. The bulk of the work was completed by one person (Dan) with some additional workers brought in for some of the speciality work. Dan was reliable, clear when he was coming and going and left things clean and safe when he left for the day or lunch breaks. The work was delayed a few days due to scheduling of painters.
Description of Work: Finished part of the basement needed to be redone due to water damage from previous plumbing and pump issues (have long since been repaired). Beard Group removed carpet, floor boards, bifold doors, bottom 18 inches of drywall. They moved the bigger pieces of furniture out of the way that I was unable to handle on my own. Walls were repaired, new bifold doors installed, floor boards and door framing installed, rerouted cables, and installed frame around PVC drain pipes. They installed floor system that I chose. They handled all the wall and ceiling painting. Crew also did some water testing in guest bath. Will need to return when weather improves to continue testing.

The Beard Group has been attentive, responsive, professional, and friendly from the start of our project. They came out to our house within a day of calling them for an estimate. They responded within a few days with a detailed estimate of what services they would be providing as well as a time frame. Their crew is talented and respectful. After each day at our house, they cleaned up and gave us an update on the progress. Cleaning up was particularly important because we have a two year old who grabs and will put anything in his mouth. The Beard Group crew kept everything safe for him. Throughout the renovation The company owners would email and stop by to check on the progress of the work. They even gave us their cellphone if we needed to contact them for any reason for the project. It was comforting to know that the owners were "in the know" and so involved in each project (even if our project was not as extensive or costly as some kitchen renos can be). Being new to Cleveland, and not knowing anyone in the area, it was such a great investment for us to meet and work with The Beard Group. We are so impressed with their work and they are now our "go to" group for ANY project or repair we should need. I would highly recommend them to anyone (and I already have!).
Description of Work: The Beard Group renovated our kitchen nook area as well as worked on various other home repairs. These tasks included: raising our microwave, removing and replacing our dishwasher, adding a new water line for our new refridgerator, preparing our nook for granite install, removing and replacing backsplash and floor tile, plastering, replacing light fixtures and adding under cabinet lighting, adding outlets, adding a thresh hold to the kitchen, stabalizing granite with carpentry, adding a wooden banister in the mainfloor, adding a wooden handrail on our back porch, replaced back door knob, weather proofing our front door, tuckpointing our chimney, repairing our toilet, and put together a table and chairs.
First and foremost Jason listened. He gave ideas and recommendations but never tried to sell any particular idea. He appreciated the vision my wife and I had. He became a partner and facilitator toward our goals. The Beard Group was not the cheapest the estimate we had, but we believed and were proven to be right that the quality they offered would be more than off set by the additional expense. Human endeavor does not lend itself to perfection and the Beard Group is not perfect; but they are excellent contractors who take pride in their work. An added bonus to their exemplary work is that they take particular care to clean up daily. In this regard they are meticulous. Our experience was wonderful and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for transforming our house. We simply love the work they did. I am sure if you hire them, you will have the same experience and gratitude.
Description of Work: The Beard Group did a magnificent job of upgrading & restoring our home. The work required was substantial and they performed admirably. The work included: 1) replacing cedar side on the back of the house; 2) repairing a sizable portion of the slate floor of the sun room; 3) reinforce and level the kitchen floor by adding ten additional wood joists and jacking the kitchen floor; 4) repairing the ceiling and closet to my sons bedroom damage caused by water; 5) repair the ceiling in the guest bath; 5) replace two large fixed windows; 6) remove existing track lighting and install recessed lights in the kitchen; 7) repair the master bath ceiling and build a light column to the skylight; 8) trim a number of windows and 9) fill in small holes due to woodpeckers.

I am trying to sell this house. What more is there to say?
Description of Work: We have relied on the Beard Group for many household repairs. I think this one was beyond their scope and neither they nor I realized it until we were beyond the point of no return. Hardie building products don't work like wood. The installation instructions have gone through at least six rewrites since it was installed on my house. We have been through a lawsuit and major replacement of the material because of improper installation. The Beard crew were very professional, but they did not understand the foibles of Hardie products. They tried to solve my leak problem by redirecting water flow on my flat roof. The leak continues, but in a different place now. We have engaged a contractor recommended by the architect for his experience and training with Hardie material to tackle the problem again.

We acknowledged from the outset that we were "troubleshooting" the problem due to unknowns regarding how the structure was built. I am in awe that this member posted this report after we have bent over backwards to help with guesswork and repeated return trips. Compound this with the reality that after almost 30 days they have STILL not paid our invoice. We have every confidence working with Hardie siding. This is not a siding problem, but more likely a flat roofing issue exascerbated by paying a premium for garbage design and construction. Too bad this client didn't report on all the other ways we have helped them including plumbing and electrical service calls. Some people focus only on the negative.
