When purchasing a new appliance or one from a previous owner, be sure to pay attention to its warranty status, including the type of coverage and any exclusions.

Additional cost factors include any hookups that need to be installed, such as gas, plumbing, or electrical. Keep in mind that major appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, and water heaters, will cost more than minor appliances, such as microwaves, due to the size, complexity, and essential nature of the item.
