Sam Lovins did a fantastic job getting my project done. The quality of his work is excellent. Don't let the white hair fool you; this man is all business when it comes to his trade. Sam was on time, on budget, did what he said he would do, in the time frame he said he would do it. He has that old school work ethic that is rare to find these days. He works until the job is done, or can go no further due to dry time. Sam had a clean cut young man named TJ as a helper that was just as pleasant and hard working as Sam. After completing the job, he cleaned up the work area, and left it as he found it. I highly recommend him for any drywall/plaster needs- he is the real deal. Looking forward to having Sam work on another project for me in the near future.
Description of Work: I have an old house, built in 1905, with lath and plaster walls. During a bathroom renovation I needed cement board installed in the tub surround, green board installed on two walls and the ceiling due to sagging/loose plaster, and a skim coat/light crack repair on another wall that had plaster that was still in good shape. I also had some loose plaster/poorly patched cracks repaired on several walls and a ceiling in other rooms throughout the house.

Sam Lovins was great. I found him on Angie's List, but he finds most of his clients elsewhere and I feel lucky that he had time for me. He keeps pretty busy. He did a beautiful job on the drywall. He is courteous and a pleasure to work with. I was doing as much as I could of the preparation work to keep costs down (i.e. furring out a wall where the plumbing stuck out too far), but he advised me on what needed to be done so it would be done properly. His employees are equally pleasant and I'd highly recommend hiring him. I contacted many drywall contractors on Angie's List before I found him and was not pleased with the others. I wasn't able to find anyone else who could do such a large residential job. Many of them said they only do patching and other small jobs. Some of them said they only do commercial jobs. Some of them refused to do a drywall job unless I also hired them for the electrical and plumbing work, but I'd already had that done. I had been calling drywall contractors for about two weeks with no luck when I called Sam. He met me shortly after. I couldn't be happier with his work and his great advice. He went above and beyond by giving me suggestions on ways I could make the job easier or better. I also plan to hire him for tile installation in one bathroom and perhaps for new quarter-round trim in some places where it is needed, but that work isn't done. The tile is scheduled to be done in about a week. It will be 70 square foot in the bathtub/shower and 85 square foot on the floor with the required cement board installation for $1200 after I supply the tile. I hope that job will go as well as his drywall work did!
Description of Work: A large drywall job including completely new drywall in a large pantry, a linen closet, two bathrooms, one wall and the ceiling in my kitchen, and a few small patch jobs. We had already done most of the demolition because we're doing a complete remodel on an old 1913 house in Dayton. The demolition was complete prior to replacing the plumbing and electrical, so I'm not sure how much it would have cost if he did all of the demolition. He did the required demolition in the linen closet.

He was prompt, clean, and he even finished a job he was contracted on before as the previous contractor messed up the job. The job was such a large job that he almost became a member of our family, he was a very nice guy to work with.
Description of Work: They did drywall, plaster, and texturing work.
