I strongly felt Mo from Eastside tried to take advantage of my ignorance of the sewer pipes and charge me for work unnecessarily. He at first told me he'd go out to the house the next day and take a look, then call me back. When he did, he said he spent a half hour looking for the sewer tees and was unable to locate them. He then said he'd have to run a camera through the line in order to locate them, which would cost an additional $300 on top of testing/capping, would would run around $350, plus a $45 city permit. I initially OK'd the work, so we made arrangements the next day for the camera part. He agreed to call me around noon to meet me at the house, as he indicated he'd need access to electricity. As we have no outlets outside, I would meet him so he could use one from inside the house, and I could observe the work being done. However, after speaking to my husband late that night, I grew suspicious over not being able to locate the tees and needing this extra step/fee. He remembers the test from when we bought the house 10 years ago and indicated it should not be hard to find at all- the dirt wasn't leveled out at all at that time, and there is still a visible mound in the front where it was done. (Not to mention, you see it done all over the city and the lines are pretty much in the same place in the front yards- experience I would've thought would make it easier to locate.) The city did specify we could locate the tees ourselves, so based on this, I called Mo FIRST THING in the morning and had to leave a message as there was no answer. l clearly stated I did not want him to do ANY work, that we'd locate the tees ourselves and to hold off until he heard from me. Apparently he doesn't check the messages of the number he has on record with the city (and what I had been provided and used to contact him in the first place), as he proceeded to go to the house and, somehow without access to electricity, and without me being out there as agreed upon, claimed to have used a camera to locate the tees. When he did get the message at the end of the day, and we spoke the next morning, I insisted I wasn't going to pay the extra $300 for work I didn't want, especially since I had contacted 4 hours in advance of our appointment, and I was not there to witness it. In the end, he didn't try to negotiate, he just said he'd go back out there to cover everything back up, which was fine by me, as I had zero trust in him. I then called another company, who gave me no lines about needing a camera to locate the tees- he said they do a lot testing in Willowick, and offered the whole service including cast iron covers and no extra permit charge, for just $300.
Description of Work: Having just accepted an offer on our house, I needed the sewer tees tested as part of our city's sewer dye test, and that needed to be done ASAP to get the whole process completed by closing date. This entailed digging/finding the tees, testing them, and then if not up to code, would need raised up and capped with cast iron covers.
