First Choice Asphalt Sealing

They did a great job, were very courtious and good attention to detail regarding before job cleaning of drive and were very good at not getting any material on area concrete. There was a little difficulty determining the day the work was to be done but that was only because of bad weather on my requested days. They showed up a little earlier than requested but that was not a problem at all. That type of work can be very difficult to schedule and do with Ohio weather, but they did a fantastic job, and it appears they used a good quality sealer, I would easily recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

I initially asked for 2 coats sealer, as I have an aging driveway. Only one coat available. I asked for crack filler. No filler available. I asked for 2 day's notice, so I could get my large potted plants off the driveway. The sealer employee showed up with no advance notice, had to leave. My driveway was not measured prior to the sealing. I paid in advance, several weeks. After a few phone calls, I finally had the job done 1st week in October. An older guy with what appeared to be a teenager showed up, this time I got advance notice. I had previously edged my driveway & got plants off the driveway. The part of the driveway nearest the garage turned out OK, but the last 2/3 of it had globs of sealer and lines of sealer on it. I asked the older guy re: the lines, he told me once the sealer dried, they would disappear. They did not. Last winter when shoveling snow on my driveway, my shovel kept hitting the sealer lines. To seal some of the cracks, additional sealer was applied to them. The employees did, however do a good job on the driveway edges. Right now, 10 1/2 months later, my driveway is peeling, so it will have to be sealed this Fall. With 2 coats sealer, I could go 2 years between sealing, which meant less work for me getting my plants off the driveway. I had previously been able to get 2 coats sealer, crack filler, had my driveway measured in advance, and paid after the work was done. The owner checked on the work of his employees. I prefer to do business this way.

They came and did the work during the day when we weren't home, but all seemed just fine and the work was done well.

Within 48 hours of responding to a "deal" available on Angie's list, the job was completed satisfactorily. Not much more to say.

He was in hospital and could not schedule work. Then weather was not right for project . Then nothing. He did communicate, but did not deliver.

They did a good job. I can't say anything bad. It ended up costing more than what we expected. I would have probably wished they would have been a little more specific on how much they will charge for tax. It added up a lot more than I expected. We ended up paying a $160 on top of $89. They explained all the extra charges to me. I didn't knew that it would cost that more. The quality of their work is good. They came on the day that they were supposed to. I did not personally meet them but on the phone, they were professional.

It went well! I believe we interacted with the owner. He called me and came out for the job. They were done within an hour or two.

The guy's demeanor could have been a little more professional. They got the work done well and quickly. They did a great job with the black topping, they applied the sealcoating evenly, which I couldn’t have done myself!

The service was fine an on time--no problems with the service. I was surprised by the extra charge after I had purchased a "Big Deal" to have the asphalt driveway coated. I had to write an additional $35 check on day of surface because the driveway was a bit longer than the deal covered. I will read the details more carefully next time!

The service was fine. I wanted to wait to schedule because of the rain, however, the weather was making his schedule tighter so he came out when it worked for him.

We had some confusion with the scheduling which was a bit bothersome. They did a good job.

They did a great job. They arrived when they said they were going to, they were very cognizant of our yard and not getting asphalt on it.

We purchased the big deal, contacted 1st Choice and they said they would come out the following week. We went on a weeks vacation and came back without our driveway sealed. Waited a couple days for them to contact us. They did and said that it had been raining constantly so the could not perform the work. Fair enough. It continued to rain so we didn't expect them to come. However, the rain eventually stopped so we waited a week (all dry weather) but they didn't come and the didn't contact us again. I called them and the claimed that I had never called them to give them my number. They had contacted me about the rain so in other words they lost my number but were very happy to sit with my money in their account. They stated that they would be out Wednesday morning. Nothing. No sealed drive, no calls. At 5:00 pm I called Angie's List to complain as by this point it was a month after I had bought the Big Deal and I just wanted the work done. Angie's List said they would contact 1st Choice and I quickly heard back from the contractors. They were at the house by 8:00 am the following day and sealed the drive. However, our neighbors also had their drive sealed by another company the same day and you can tell that the quality 1st Choice was much lower than the other. There is ashpalt on our concrete, large holes left unfilled etc. I would NEVER use 1st choice again nor would I reccommend them to anyone else.

We've used 1st choice for several years now. They do a great job and are very careful not to mess anything up in the process. It did take a couple months to get scheduled this year, hence the B for responsiveness, but the weather was not cooperating and apparently the owner Gene was in the hospital for quite a while. Thank goodness he's okay - I don't want to deal with anyone else!

They were behind schedule due to the large number of rainy days this summer, but kept me informed and did a great job on my driveway.

They arrived when they said they would and two gentlemen came for the work. One of them trimmed the grass around the driveway to ensure that no trimming was collected in the coating. The job was completed within about thirty minutes and they explained the details very well to me. They were neat with the job and left no mess behind. I had previously purchased this same Big Deal with them last year and was very happy with the finished result. The coating that they used this year appeared to not be as thick of a top coating that was used on the job last year. They did a fine job with the work.

Contractor decided Marion County was too far away to travel.

Purchased the Big deal for Driveway seal coat on June 2nd. I received initial email saying someone will contact me to schedule in a week. Three weeks passed with zero contact, so I attempted to get a hold of them with the number they provided and I got a message saying voicemail box was full, so unable to leave a message. I was then able to get a hold of someone and he was very abrasive over the phone, saying that weather was the issue, which is understandable, but the professionalism was lacking. I decided to wait it out and give them every opportunity to make this right, but no contact. I have tried to contact through Angie's list message board, but no response. Also, tried voicemail and no luck there either. I am now past the 30 day mark and I can't get a refund, however, these guys got my money on June 2nd. I do not recommend you go with this service provider.

The sealing went as planned. The 1st Choice crew came on time. The sealing was even and smooth.

1st Choice had a personal situation that delayed work, this was fine. However, once that seemed to be resolved, we could never really get the schedule nailed down. Twice we were told 'next week' and they didn't come out. There were some weather delays as well, and we certainly understand that is out of their control. Overall, they were nice and professional on the phone, but we decided to cancel the work.

Professional, punctual and personable. Eager to please. Did nice job and will use again as well as recommend to others.

It went pretty good. But they had an extra charge that wasn't included with the original estimate.

After finding this company on Angie's list, I requested a quote off of their website. However, after reading the negative reviews on Angie's List, we decided to not go ahead with hiring them to do our driveway. So, imagine my surprise when I went to leave my house yesterday and when I opened my garage door these people were sealing our driveway! The person doing it was belligerent and told me in no uncertain terms that I could not back my car over the driveway. I had a doctor's appointment that I could not miss and so I had to call my husband to come home so I could have a car. The person from this company insisted that my husband gave the go-ahead in writing to do this work and also insisted that they had left messages on our home phone. First, he could produce no such written authorization and, second, we do not even have voicemail or an answering machine on our home phone. These were flat out lies. He finally admitted they had made a "mistake" and said we would not be charged for the work. Unfortunately, this whole fiasco resulted in my husband and I not having use of our car for 2 days, so this was hardly big of them-- a rental car would have cost nearly as much as their service was to cost. My advice is that you should not request a quote from these people unless you want them to "mistakenly" do the work. In addition, I have lost all faith in Angie's List if this is the kind of company they endorse.

I purchased this early in the season, so between weather and material delays it did not get done until late June, however that was no problem. They did an excellent job of what I ordered, however the driveway seemed to be showing it age more than usual, so I may have additional service done later this summer or in the fall to prep for the winter.

It went well without me, as it should. Everything was done as expected.
