First Choice Asphalt Sealing

He called me at 1:34 and said it was going to take him half an hour and that he might be late because of nearby weather. I waited until 2:27 to ask if he was still coming today. He then didn't show up for another forty-five minutes. I was told the day prior that he would be there between 12noon and 1 o'clock, approximately. When it came to the extra crack-filling, he tried to make me pay cash for it and originally tried to charge me $30. Then when he gave me the invoice that said I needed to send in my payment within five business days, he objected and said that he needed the payment now. And then, he didn't want to write down the information from the check or initial it. When my neighbors showed up, he walked over to them individually and said that he give my neighbor to the North an estimate of $80. He then walked over to the other neighbor to the South and gave her an estimate of $60. This is just not right. If they're going to treat me this way, what are they going to do to other people?

Choose three different dates at the time of purchase to have service provided then sent an email asking to schedule a specific date even if further out to which I received no response. Service was not provided on any of the requested days, I have left 2 separate voice mails requesting a call back to schedule a time of service even if a month or so later just need to know when and still have received no communication. He could have at least called back to say he is too busy at the moment and refunded my money.

I reached out 4 times and no response to my calls. I had to file a dispute with Paypal to get my money back.

##UPDATE as of 7/20/15## I learned that the owner was in the hospital since May. 1st Choice has reached out to me to schedule and I am hopeful that I can change my rating after service is completed## I am new to Angie's List and purchased a $99 voucher for driveway sealing. My overall rating is F as I have spent weeks trying to contact this vendor to no avail and we have still not received promised services. I am hopeful that they respond upon seeing this review. As background: Correspondence with this vendor started off well. albeit a bit strange as there were some scheduling hiccups. I stated that we were going to be on vacation a given week and did not want our driveway closed off during that time; in response, they scheduled us for the very same week that I requested to NOT have service. They then promised to visit a different week. Out of nowhere, I received a phone call saying they were on their way. Unfortunately, our A/C was being repaired that same day so again, our driveway could not be closed off during that day. I asked if they could give us a call at least the night before to make sure the timing would work out. I have since called and emailed but have not received any follow up. I am disappointed as I had used this vendor in the past and they were prompt, courteous and affordable. Unfortunately, this recent lack of communication is unacceptable.

They were good and the price was very reasonable, they did a good job. The were professional people and If I had an opportunity I would use them again.

I bought an Angie's List Big Deal from them last June to seal my driveway. They did an awful job - putting down an extremely thin layer asphalt. It all peeled off over the winter, leaving my driveway with peeling patches of asphalt that I drag into my house every time I walk in the door. I contacted them in May and asked them to re-do it because they did such a lousy job....they said they would. Two months later, and they have still never shown up to repair the lousy job they did last year or even called to tell me when I'll be on the schedule. I've talked to the owner and other people in the office a couple of times, but all I get is lip service. That is, when their voicemail boxes aren't full. I've given up hope that they'll every show up, and I've hired another company. I can't believe they have put out another Angie's List Big Deal, when they still haven't fixed the lousy work they did last year. Do yourself a favor and hire a different company to do your driveway.

We live in a condominium development and missed the sign up for having our driveway sealed. When we noticed they were here, we went outside and asked us if they could add us to list to have it done that day. They were very kind and responsive and did an excellent job. We would definitely use them in the future.

This was absolutely the worst driveway sealing job I've ever had and will never use these guys again. It took them forever to get me on their schedule, they called but never showed up at least twice, maybe more, I lost track. I really didn't even expect them to show up. I purchased the Big Deal in March and did not see them until July. They really must have used an inferior product because my driveway appears to be speckled. I was not here at the time, but I think it must have rained sometime after they completed. And, they told my wife that we have an extra large driveway and need to pay an additional $22.61. (Terms of the coupon.) Very unprofessional.

They were pretty responsive. They called me right away when they could not come. That was good.

Pretty thin coat on the driveway. Started cracking again just a few months later.

I am happy with the work. They did a good job but following up was not good. They did not contact us we had to contact them. We have a three car garage and once I called them they got the job done. I would recommend them and I would tell the company that if they are not going to contact the customer then don’t put that in the deal.

I'd purchased a sealcoating deal through Angie's List for this company, which was highly rated. After two weeks and multiple attempts to contact them to schedule the service, I got absolutely not reply and cancelled the deal. Can't understand how a company with such high ratings could be so unprofessional.

The work was done drama free. They are very conscious of the weather forecast to ensure the Asphalt that they just put down does not splash onto your house and stain your house with black spots. So due to the weather there can be delays when they come out to work on your house. Otherwise they did a great job once work was complete.

They did not confirm a time and they showed up unexpected. Work was well done and quickly

2nd time they have done our driveway. However, this time we were renovating our garage. He called twice to schedule because we had purchased a Groupon. I told him both times that I would call him when we were ready because we were renovating our garage. Then we went out of town for a long weekend and they went ahead and did it without even calling us ahead of time. So, although they did a great job, they did not listen to what I told them TWICE. PROBABLY would use them again, but am still irritated that they sealed the driveway without any notice and didn't listen to what I had asked.

They were very accommodating in scheduling around our family activities and the weather.

The provider never responded to my repeated contact attempts. I left emails and left multiple phone numbers to reach me. They never contacted me. I got a refund. Avoid them. Read the other reviews. They have a pattern of this behavior.

I've had this company the past two years. I honestly believe they do the best job of any I've had in the past. They did a good job of being careful not to splash blacktop onto my home which has been a problem with other companies in the past. I think the price is excellent for the good job they do. They also were professional and courteous - would definitely recommend.

Very courteous and kept in touch about delay of service due to severe weather. Disappointed with cracks not being sealed well with 2 coats and noticeable brush marks. Seemed like they rushed the job. My fault that I didn't call and tell them I wasn't satisfied.

It took almost two months to complete driveway sealing. The sealing job appeared to be good quality. Turns out the owner was hospitalized and the the owner's brother took over the running of the business for the time being. I had a good deal of difficulty with broken service time commitments and a lack of communication from the business--lot of wasted time. Would have to think long and hard before using this company again.

They called, as promised in April and scheduled a later time for the actual work ( in early May, I think.) There was good communication and they arrived on the scheduled date and did a nice job. Drive still looks good a month later, so the materials used seem to be right for the job. Nice work at a very reasonable cost.

Very good experience. Kept me apprised of when they might do the job. Called on the day to let me know they were coming out. Did a good job on the coating/sealing. Very simple all the way.

The second coat didn't have the thickness that I expected and there were holes that had formed in the crack fills for some reason. The owner was very nice and worked with me on getting a third coat applied for free. After this coat the driveway looked as I expected. He did this first thing the next morning as I was very close to the pickup point for his sealant so that was very nice. The first coat was applied in the morning and then the second in the afternoon with the third being applied a few days later. He explained in detail the answers to my questions about the process and materials.
