It appeared that my refrigerator had quit working. Everything seemed to be fine when it was raided by my teenager at midnight. At 5 am my husband woke me up to tell me something was wrong with the frig. The front light panel and water/ice display screen nor the inside light would come on. The water and ice would not dispense either. I cold called an appliance repairman (at a more reasonable hour) because he was closer than other servicemen listed on Angie's List and his ad caught my attention in the Yellow Pages. He walked me through several different scenarios to help me troubleshoot what the problem could be. We hung up and I tried the different suggestions and tests he gave me to eliminate the obvious, (e.g. tripped fuse, correctly labeled fuse on panel, outlet behind frig.still works, etc.). I know these seem like easy solutions, but when the threat of a costly repair OR even a total replacement hangs over your head, coming up with a checklist of ideas may not be as forthcoming when not stressed. What became of the malfunction? The problem with the refrigerator seemed to resolve itself. I changed the water filter the night before and thought maybe that did something to make it go haywire. I took the filter out and re-installed it and voila!...all is well. I know no work was done on the premises, but I want to report how much time and effort was spent by the repairman. I'm not saying he doesn't charge or that he gives away his business. I'm appreciative of how he tried to avoid having to come out and then have to charge for an unneeded service call. I know he would be thorough if and when he does have to make a repair on one of our appliances.
